Nice bit of play by Ozil, hasn't done that enough for us yet IMO.

If this was the first leg it would have been an excellent result but at no point did we really look like putting bayern under pressure. got unusually lucky with the goal as normally any heavy breathing can result in a foul. the frustrating thing was that we had some very good opportunities to create chances but fluffed them by delaying the pass or making the wrong decision, especially in the 2nd half. remember rosicky in the middle with the ox bursting through and instead of sliding the ball between defenders he turned round and passed it backwards thus ending the move.
hope the team learn that we need to win the group, we had a great chance to do that but messed up. basically we are in the top 16 clubs in europe which i dont think is good enough considering the resources we have and the stability we have. but oh well, roll on next season hope we get a hard group like this season made it alot more interesting.
That was the key problem. The tactics. Too negative when negative was never, ever going to get us the result we needed except by some sort of blind fluke. Tactics were so much better in the first leg, until Robben's dubious tactics effectively ended the tie. Wenger has been too negative this season. It's good to see the defence tightening up, but it has been done at the expense of the outfield. Then again, start from the back and build from there is not a bad method.Quote:
because the rest of the team are playing too deep
Wenger thought we were good enough to compete with the best and that there's no gap, this worries me because their definitely is. We didn't lose last night but Bayern never got out of 1st gear because they didn't need to as at no stage did we come close to turning it around.
From his interview Wenger thinks we lost due to bad luck when in fact we lost because over two legs they were the better side. I think after going out at the same stage for quite a few seasons now and failing to overcome any of the better sides over two legs, he really needs to consider the fact we're not at their level and that this is the issue, not bad luck.
Perhaps you also need to consider the fact we played most of the first leg with 10 men which effectively ended the tie and removed any real measure of "gaps" and competitiveness. We were all over Bayern at the start of the first leg. To me it seemed we were competing. But Bayern were probably letting us do that, lulling us into a false sense of security while Robben limbered up for his dive.
:haha:
I guess they look similar...
Ox literally twice as good as Robben (cunt) doing what (supposedly) Robben (cunt) does best - and Ox relied on pure talent rather than laughably obvious cheating.
TOTAL SUCCESSFUL DRIBBLES
OXLADE-CHAMBERLAIN - 10
Robben (cunt) - 5
Alaba - 3
Cazorla - 2
Thiago - 1
Gotze - 1
Podolski - 1
Koscielny - 1
Yeah we did and yes we started well but we didn't score our chances and noone really knows how it would have ended had we had 11 men, the fact is Chesney made a mistake and unfortunately he got sent off (some deem it harsh others think it was a bit reckless).
It's all very good starting well etc but if you don't score when you get chances you're not going to win, we had the opportunities to go ahead but didn't take them, this more than anything highlights the lack of quality up front.
We competed to an extent, but I think Bayern felt the tie was won and didn't overly extent themselves, after equalising had we been at their level we'd have turned the screw and put them under pressure, don't really think we ever threatened a comeback.
No shame in it but we're below the level of the best sides IMO, that's why we need a few more top quality signings in the summer.
Ox is brilliant no question, however you can't discount Robben's talent, yes he does dive a lot (a lot of players do) however if you look at what he's done in his career and his performances in big games you can't argue about his ability.
I can remember him when he first came to Chelsea and use to beat 4-5 men at a time before lashing home a shot, Van Basten also rated him and RVP as the biggest young talents in Holland when they were young.
Like him or loathe him you can't deny he's talented and a matchwinner.
Ben Johnson was an Olympic gold medallist until the sporting body that takes cheating seriously threw him out in disgrace. Unfortunately the football authorities, the media and (I see) some fans condone cheating and the authorities have made no moves to throw out the cheats. Look at how it's stacked. A goalie comes out and brushes against a striker, down goes the striker, red card and ban for the goalie, penalty for the cheat. A triple punishment. If the ref decides not to give it then he is at liberty to ignore the cheating and more often than not there is no sanction for the cheat. You can't get a bigger endorsement for cheating than that.
There are huge rewards to be gained for cheating, at almost no cost. The ref won't punish you, the authorities won't punish you, the media has to literally see it happen time and time again right under their noses before they'll mention it - unless it is Gerrard, Rooney or Chimpy in which case they resort to ridiculous excuses and apologies on the cheat's behalf.
And Robben is far and away the biggest cheat in the game. Nobody else comes anywhere close. So do I have to acknowledge anything about the cunt beyond this glaring fact? Actually no. Somebody who cheats on this scale deserves no leeway. It is not valid to say (as you are) that okay, he is a huge cheat but he is a good player. What is that supposed to mean, that we brush his cheating under the carpet?
Anyway, hopefully he'll shatter his leg and it will end his career. That way nobody will have to worry about his cheating any more.
10 men/11 men....I'm not sure it would have made a difference. Just looking at the stats over both legs. Not one player managed make over 30 passes in the first leg with 10 men. It was the same for the 2nd leg. Not a single player completed over 30 passes.
I think we got it wrong playing Ox in the middle. With that sort of game we'd have to look to counter from the flanks and exploit the space out wide. Oh well. I didn't see us getting past Bayern this year either way.
Shit first leg against Milan
Shit first leg against Bayern
Shit first leg against Bayern.
Good improvement that.
when we had 11 v 11 we did match Bayern in both legs to a certain extent. I can't think of very many clear cut chances for them last night, nor can i from the first leg before the penalty incident. While they are clearly the better team, if the ref hadn't bottled sending of boetang in the first leg before the penalty (which he should have done) then the result could have been very different. in both legs the team did well, there is no shame in losing to a side as good as Bayern, but we gave it a good go and there is a slight sense of what might have happened had the ref not bottled that red card.
as we said, we were never going to win the competition but we leave with our pride intact and the boys put in two very good performances. On to the cup now.
We were never going to out pass them but the stats are surprising. We weren't set up to counter.

Beckenbauer is already bored of Pep's brand of football. It is pretty boring to be honest.
Bayern are a long way off where we used to be as a passing team. We need to get back there. We were a hundred times better than Barca have ever been (or Bayern) because our footie was entertainment packed too. We should aspire to the arsenal way because its the best that ever was, except maybe the brazilians of the 70s.
Barca tonight are just dire. Technically flawless but shatteringly boring.
Were just having a random thought, shouldnt Müller have had atleast a yellow or even a red card for tackling fabianski in the face without touching the ball after the penalty kick? :s
Point being, lets not look at second best in terms of aspirations. Lets look at the best, us. Nothing came close in domestic football. Then again, we'd need Bergkamp, Henry, Overmars, Vieria, Petit, Pires... Might be hard to get them. Could cost a few quid these days.
Dzeko :haha: on
Aguero off. Oh dear.
I already know its the wrong thread so shut it. I was congratulating myself on beating maccy to it. Fuck.
100% dive.
We need a smilie similar to pat rice for robben. A dive smilie would be awesome! :patrice:

Oh you wanted a dive smiley. Close enough.
dear friends,
now it's clear: during the #ucl match against #FCBayern I suffered a muscle injury in the second minute. I tried to give my best and played until the end of the first half. rest assured that I'll be back even stronger!

Wow. Defensive or what?
Not in the slightest.
