if you mix competitive and non competitive fixtures we have won six games from the past twenty three games (23 games competitive and non competitive since we beat Barcelona in February), I am not optimistic for this game, statistics give me no reason to be optimistic

The only player from last season and in pre-season who seems capable of scoring goals is Robin Van Persie
We will conceed goals, our defence is incapable of leadership and stopping itself from making howlers
First few games of the season are pretty random usually.

We should watch out for Demba Ba, he's one of those annoying players that always seem to pop up with a tap in or scruffy goal. He was quite effective in the short time he had at West Ham last year.
Fancy us to score a few but it's just a case of whether we can snuff Newcastle out of the game. They'll want to start well for their fans so I think we'll have an open game at least, I just hope we're prepared defensively because that will probably be the difference.
In a way I think it's better for us to start away so all the intense expectation isn't felt. I'm sure it will be back next week against Liverpool so starting well here could give them a much needed reprieve.
