Wenger's take on it:
“At the moment, he is a bit in between on the flank and being central but at the end of the season I liked him through the middle.”
But I wouldn't worry too much, in about 8 years Wenger will realise Welbz is perhaps not as prolific in front of goal as we need him to be. And then he will announce this new, undiscovered fact and buy Sanogo's sister to replace him.
At the very first stumble they start kicking off. Fickle. They think they are so clever just because they can predict the defeat, the nature of the defeat and the specific issues underpinning the defeat. Of course, mass pattern recognition is a fine thing in hindsight.
I had a Liverpool player as captain on FF.
That tells you what my level of confidence was.
I think he wants to play that role. He plays in a similar way for Wales, with the manager compensating, of course, which is what we lack at Arsenal. And Henry mentioned the comfort zone too. When you get into a pattern, or a rut, and you get used to things over a long period of time then they become normal. Many of these players have been institutionalised.
Wenger doesn't rate the straight forward number 9 strikers that are all about banging in goals. He's always impressed with some extra bullshit other than scoring goals. Fool. It didn't take long for him to bench Lacazette and once he came one he was playing out wide on the left.
Is it any wonder half the team want to leave? Todays performance certainly will not encourage them to stay. If you have an ounce of integrity please Kroenke and Wenger go.
Wenger has already decided he doesn't like Lacazette and is undermining him by benching him in big games, taking him off when we are chasing a game or playing him out of position like today!
Someone at Arsenal has got to fire the cunt, we are in a real mess here and it will only get worse.
During our previous moments of crisis in past years we could often make an emergency signing in the window to at least stabilise the problem for the season, most notably after the 8 - 2 ...... but I honestly don't think signing Lemar or whoever is going to solve the core issue. Not that it's going to happen, but we'd be better off spending 15 million on paying Wenger off than getting a new signing in.
How much more humiliation must we suffer in the hands of the incompetent and the mercenary uncaring?
Until it hits him financially. Either the sponsors to start dropping off (and there are signs already of that) or fans stop pumping money into the club.
That being said, TV money these days dwarves the other two revenue streams, especially matchday income, so I honestly don't think Stan would care if we were playing to an empty stadium as long as we were still making a profit.
It's a huge mess that won't simply go away if fans stop turning up. We have loads of tourists waiting in the wings and would happily fill up the stadium and take selfies! Wenger is a cancer at Arsenal and getting rid of him is going to be nearly impossible.
This manager has a magic cloak that makes him impervious. Right now, the pundits are blaming Ozil for this performance. John Barnes has come up with the craziest shit so far. Try and stick with me on this one. Mesut Ozil is to blame for Arsenal's problems because when he plays badly the fans don't criticise him, instead they criticise Wenger. So Ozil gets a free ride, poor old Wenger gets all the flak. Wenger is the victim. The insanity of this is hard to grasp. Ozil has been persecuted by the media since he arrived, and half the fanbase has jumped on the bandwagon. So how, exactly, has he had a free ride while Wenger has got the blame. Barnes is literally blaming Ozil and absolving Wenger because, in his confused mind, Ozil never gets blamed and Wenger takes all the heat.
Andy Gray thinks the main problem stems from the fact Wenger never subs Ozil. Gray is normally more level headed, but he's hitched his wagon up to the crackpot caravan on this occasion. Is he seriously telling me that if Ozil had been subbed today it would have made a blind bit of fucking difference? Apart from Cech, who kept the score embarrassing rather than mortifying, everyone was shite. Including the subs. And they were all shite because the fucking lunatic running the place has absolutely no idea how to build a team and send it out to compete. None at all.
How is he getting away with this? It's staggering. This isn't the first, second or even fifth season this shit has been going on. It has been over a decade FFS. At what point do some of these lunatics say, well hold on, perhaps Wenger might have something to do with this?
I can't remember the name of the bloke on the American post game show, but he's the only one that seems to grasp the obvious. His take? This all comes down to one man and one man alone. Arsene Wenger. Because when you get to write your own contract and you have no pressure then this is what you get. Or words to that effect. One person. All the rest of them are fishing around for any excuse to absolve Wenger and some won't even mention his name.
Supporting Arsenal is like being in the Village in that TV series The Prisoner. Surely everyone can see what a fucked up place it is, but no, you show them and they all ask, what, what, what? In the end you wonder whether it's you that's insane.
Yeah, it's a little bit crazy. Those TV revenues are paid by all football fans, not just Arsenal fans. You pay your subscription package and that covers all the teams. So fans of Utd, the gypos, the spuds, Bournemouth, etc are all chipping in to keep Kroenke and Wenger well heeled. It doesn't even rely on Arsenal fans refusing to attend, or buy shirts, or cancel Sky. If we won't pay then Liverpool fans will. And chavs.
It's impossible to beat the bastards.
It's just bizarre how literally nothing changes. This club is proof of how overrated stability is.
Don't care, I have already written off this season, our club is in real crisis and until he is gone we will continue to stagnate.
I do agree with your sentiment NQ, but this is now about Wenger v world, he is wrong but will continue to dig his heels in until he is fired. The Arsenal job will be a tough one once Wenger is gone, he has gone past that stage of wanting what's best for Arsenal and it's now all about him.
I don't think it shows that stability is a bad thing but it is a bad thing if you're in endless Groundhog Day because it just means that Day goes on for longer. Maybe one day Andie Macdowell will fall in love with Arsene Wenger and this will all be over. :ilt:
I follow Arsenal twitter a lot and even most of the usual Arsene apologists have turned on Wenger now want him gone - even Arseblog who's usually quite restrained. This result may finally be the straw that broke the camel's back though obviously it's going to have zero impact on anything.
Though if the unthinkable were to happen and he either resign or be forced out then Tuchel is still available and could do the job for at least a season. Heck i'd take the fat Spanish waiter at this point.
Kroenke is the cancer and Wenger continuing to linger around instead of being quietly pushed aside is the symptom of it. A caring owner would have done something about ages ago.
Whilst I've wanted Wenger to go for a long time now I've always been mindful of being respectful and not being as venomous and downright nasty in abusing him as opposed to others online (and sometimes in the stadium) like NQ who'll call him every name under the sun mainly because of his history and service to the club ......... but honestly fuck him, the geriatric old fraud.
He had two chances to go out on a high winning the FA Cup but his oversized ego, pettiness to be proven ultimately right at whatever detriment to the club he professes to care and his own personal inability to see himself outside football has caused him to stick around.
Problem is, the Grove will still be full every home game, and so the money will keep rolling in. I have switched off, I don't watch anymore because I know what is coming. He brings in 2 signings, and rests them both, he is on cloud cuckoo land. I cant see anything at that club that makes it attractive anymore, its a lifeless soulless place.
Although I'm an armchair fan, I can't take any more of this.
My 4 year old has even decided he's a West Ham fan so I'm going to start taking him to the lower leagues rather than watching our games, we've got Luton & MK Dons (:() nearby but surely their teams have some passion and desire to win for their fans?
The team is a mess, the management is a mess. We've had the best squad in years for 3 years and Wenger has managed to ruin it.
Gloves came off and knuckleduster went on the second the selfish bastard signed that contract. I'd have given him his dues if he'd have ducked out at that point, despite the decade of torment. But when he decided he was bigger then this club all that history was washed away. If a saint saves you and then turns into a demon and kills you, you deal with the here and now. That old Wenger is long gone and now there's this thing in his place. If the long gone, old Wenger ever rematerialised I'd say thanks, for sure. As for this cunt that's taken his place, fuck him.
The whole media, Internet, everything is talking about how shit Arsenal Football Club is. And yet, nobody is talking about how shit Wenger is, except the fans. All that remains is for Wenger and the media to come out and blame us for the mess. You know, like they did last season.
Did anyone see the sycophant Keown on Match of the Day? Eeeeeeeeeeeewwwww!
The Americans and Canadians have far, far, far more grasp on football reality than we see here.

Klopp: "Each pass is always a risk..."
Wenger needs to learn from this guy. Or he needs to jump off a bridge. Either will do.
Listening to the Liverpool players after the game, they all talk about Arsenal and Arsenal players and they know their opponents and our (ahem) tactics.
Listening to Arsenal players, it's all, "we have to, we must, we will...", not one of them mentions an opponent.
Very, VERY, illustrative, I think.
Also. Wenger is a fucking dickhead.
Hardly came as a surprise to get flogged today, did even want to check the result when I got up today. The players will apologise (again) and the manager will make his usual remarks and blame everyone but himself and the players. Nothing will change unless we have a serious upheaval at the top. It is telling that all our good players are desperate to leave. They know they are on a sinking ship.
I missed the game yesterday, the sad thing is I wasn't even that surprised when I found out the result. In years gone by I wouldn't have missed the game or at the very least I would have been desperate to keep up to date with the score. Not anymore, I knew we would lose and had no desire to watch the game. I don't even get angry when we lose now, I don't even feel embarrassed when we take a beating from a so called rival.
I have nothing positive to say anymore about the club I grew up loving, I feel as a club we are weak in pretty much every area of leadership, we lack a heart, we lack ambition, the club is run by cowards, the team is managed by a coward, the team is made up of cowards. I could go on and moan about Kroenke, Gazidis and Wenger individually but what's the point? Nothing is going to change, Wenger signing on for two more years means we have a minimum of two more years of this, he is pretty much untouchable as are those who make up this rotten regime.
We have a manager living with the fairies and a team where half of them wish to leave. We have a hard long road back. I can see a relegation fight on our hands.
I rate him. Wenger can make any decent player look shit. Just like Ferguson could make any shit player look world class.
THIERRY HENRY
Quote:
'I wanted to walk out'
I wanted to leave (the stadium). I don't relate with this team.
I am not surprised. I was expecting this. Stagnation.
I knew what was going to happen today. But still when you see it you're like, no, not again! The way Arsenal lose the game is the problem. We are talking about desire, commitment. Have a go. The team I arrived into could fight. These guys? It is painful. As a fan, you try to be positive, but it's not nice to see.
Everything that you see on the day has been happening for the past 10 years.
We talk about Sanchez and is he staying, but they are not going to want to be part of this team. That is why players are not renewing their contracts, they can see something is wrong.
The word I have used for a long time — comfort. Everyone is comfortable at Arsenal. It's not the same pressure you have at a big club, that you should have. Everything is… nice. It cannot be like that.
Ox can fuck off as far as I'm concerned. Barely improved when we signed him and the fact that Wenger has decided to play him this season at LWB instead of Kolasinaic is endemic of his incompetent management.
If he really thinks he can get into either the Chelsea or Liverpool midfield with his brainless play then he's absolutely deluded.
tbf I thought Carragher and to a lesser extent Henry nailed it in the post match Sky Sports coverage.
A lack of ruthlessness at the club - everyone is content with just being "comfortable & happy" and there's no pressure on them to deliver anything.

Letting this guy go when we had the chance to sign him just to placate Wenger's ego will be one of the biggest mistakes the clubs ever made.
Actually plays good football and knows how to organise teams.
Also:
Petr Cech is about to concede more goals at Arsenal in less than 3 years than he conceded in his entire career at Chelsea. Peak Banter.
Arsenal. Where we make even formerly good players look utterly hopeless.
