I've been an advocate of video reffing, but I actually don't like it much now it's here. Goal line technology, yes, but VAR is too subjective. Also, if the ref is asked to come and look at the incident himself, it implies that the others think it should be, so it puts the match ref in a tricky situation.

I like it overall, but it’s clear it doesn’t stop arguments, it just changes them.
That penalty was one of those “you see them given” ones.
It wasn’t clear cut but probably was one so VAR got a decision right that would have been got wrong.
Isn’t that a good thing?

It isn't as complicated as you say.

France will either be the 49th match or the 51st match, if it's the 49th they'll play the runners up of Group D or if it is the 51st they'll play the winners of Group D.

Then they would play the winners of Uruguay v [insert name here] if they're the 49th match and the victor of Runner up Group A/Winner of Group B if they're the 51st match.

49 plays 50.

51 plays 52.

It is a good thing, but I think it could be implemented better. Sometimes play has gone on, or players are celebrating a goal with fans only for it to be called back. It has changed the game somehow.
