So many yellows.
0-0 HT. Utter scrotefest.
There is no way someone won't get a red in this game, the ref has been totally incompetent.
If by 70 mins, we still have 11 men and its still 0-0, Arteta needs to give Sterling a chance. Our best chance of winning the game from what I am seeing
Martinelli has been awful once again....besides his industry, he offers this team absolutely nothing.
1-0? My neighbour is yelling!
GABRIEL!!!!!
Sterling and Jesus coming on.
Trossard was also truly terrible today...probably even worse than Martnelli...the difference though is he can actually score unlike Martinelli who has lost all confidence and composure.
Nwaneri on for Saka.
Gabriel Jesus gets Player of the Match. :haha:
0-1 FT GET THE FUCK IN!!!
What a win! 3 in a row at WHL.
Me for thinking we’d stumble.
Spurs. :haha:
Don’t ever change.
Fantastic result especially considering the injuries/suspensions going into it
Next week we will have Calafiori and Rice back (hopefully with the former)
Anyway we get through the next two games unbeaten, and I think we’ve really laid a marker down
Was listening on the radio, sounds like we managed the game well, great result, well done gunners :scarf:
Cheer up Postecoglu ...
Three goals conceded in 11 away league games in 2024
To paraphrase a line from Bad Santa
Our defence is tougher to break down than Margaret Thatcher’s pussy
Sorry Mac hope whoever is with you has the smelling salts
I saw only the last 2 minutes of injury time.
Who did well and who didn't today ?
How did Sterling play ?
Good win.
I can’t watch because I don’t have the sports channels.
I could listen but never liked listening to football on the radio, I always found it quite stressful as they make every slight half chance sound like it’s heading in. And it’s not that practical with 2 young kids running around.
I sort of followed it on here but my neighbour is ahead of that.
But what the fuck has it got to do with you how closely I follow Arsenal? I had a season ticket for over 20 years, now I follow from afar. I don’t feel any need to enter any “bestest westest Arsenal fan” competition.
Mostly because I’m not 8 years old.
It's not a competition, i agree, just surprised that someone who runs an Arsenal messageboard doesn't watch or listen to the NLD
I was driving and while i get your point about how their voices rise every time there's a shot, i have to admit i prefer it to watching the away NLD, that's the definition of stress
I was working, I was actually doing my best to avoid what was going on. But I can hear people at my local pub, so I know when West Ham have scored if I’m not watching or I know when Spurs are losing
I normally find some dodgy stream or watch in the pub (but then I don’t have kids), I haven’t paid for Sky Sports in a few years (and last few years I got it through Now TV).
I haven’t listened to Radio commentary since Alan Green retired
Not really, from what I heard it was a decent game in which we weathered some pressure and struck the killer blow, then sealed the win with good defending
Good football
Disagreeing with me by not watching it is impressive.
I'm basing it on two things - 1) the commentary made it clear there was a lot of action and some good play 2) people on here do tend to be fairly negative about the level of performance
As discussed, radio commentary is misleading - they always make things sound more exciting than things actually are.
Famously, I didn't see it either (Worst. Arsenal board mod. Ever!), I watched the highlights and from that it didn't look like a classic.
Looked like one of those games which was either going to peter out to a 0-0 or won by the odd goal. Our newfound ability from set pieces made it the latter.
I continue to believe I don't need to justify how closely I follow Arsenal, but in brief...my life has moved on since I started moderating this place. I've got married, had kids. My dad, who I used to go to games with, got too ill to keep going. And just generally I am very jaded by the modern game and the money sloshing around in it. I struggle to care which billionaire's plaything beats which other billionaire's plaything. The whole way the modern game is set up is designed to keep the gap between the haves and have nots as big as possible. It's why I'm more engaged with international tournaments. You can't buy a World Cup or Euros by snapping up all the best players. It's less predictable and therefore more enjoyable.
And i made clear in my earlier post that i agreed it wasn't a competition, simply that I was surprised - i don't think that was unreasonable
Why are you surprised when I express my distain for modern football repeatedly and regularly say I almost never watch games these days.
Actually this place is my go to in terms of keeping up with games. I tend to watch the highlights if we've won, or at least drew if it wasn't in an annoying way.
It was a scrote fest....easily one of the worst games we've played against them in recent times.
We won because we slightly edged it on concentration levels and in general we made less mistakes. I repeat, it was not an entertaining game at all, unless you are a fan of the kind of drama the referee was trying to create.
ok fair enough I guess the radio guys were indeed exagerrating plus the crowd noise always makes it seem more exciting - although tbh i think to keep them at bay and win without two key players is a good performance, pretty football or not
maybe I'm just bored of the matchday negativity over here, especially when I've been at home game and then read the stuff on here which often has little bearing on what i've just witnessed
I tend to agree, having seen extended highlights. It wasn’t exactly a game of loads of chances. They were much better in the first half than in the second, and arguably Brennan Johnson should have scored against us. We lacked presence in central midfield without Rice and Odegaard. They were pressing us high into giving the ball away, Jorginho struggled a bit on the ball.
But our defending was good, we didn’t cough up that many chances. And the game was dead after Gabriel headed in
This is why I never liked listening on the radio. Every slight half chance is made to sound like a gilt-edged opportunity. I find it quite stressful!
When I was a kid I was listening to a NLD on the radio, it was Jonathan Pearce. Someone scored and for a full minute he was yelling so much I didn't even quite know which team had scored.
It was them <_<
Jonathan Pearce just can't shut up, even on TV he just witters on, right through whatever's actually going on
