Sounds like VAR are reviewing for a red against us.
Seems VAR wants to give Lewis-Skelly a red. You can't make this shit up.
Lewis-Skelly sent off for Arsenal. Not ideal.
MLS is going to get a red here. Another one of those last man incidents, but this time it's all down to Raya who has been wandering around outside his goal all match.
WTF is the point.....we really messed this season up from day one.
This pretty much does MLS for the season. Everyone will be piling on now. This is what happens when you bring a couple of kids in and tell them the season depends on you because we can't be bothered to properly field a full squad.
Why are we pushed so far up that we get a straight red for last man half way up the pitch, when we have no strikers
It was actually a foul on MLS first, but obviously not given. Then MLS clearly takes him down but the ref can defend this all day long because Raya was in the CB position for some incredibly fucked up reason. He's been doing it all match, getting as far as the halfway line on occasion.
League campaign is done let’s be honest. No more crumbs of comfort after this.
The league campaign was over ages ago. I think we were all kidding ourselves that these kind of games wouldn’t become the norm with no striker
Well they just assume players like Docherty are suddenly going to be world beaters, run up the full length of the pitch and slam it in. If I had to bet on that hammer finishing off that chance I'd bet against. We've seen how shit most strikers are in this league (although better than our striker tbf)
But we made our bed here. Low pace, low intensity, an absolute gift for an opponent that doesn't mind doing a bit of running.
Your analysis of this is spot on.....I think its mainly because MLS had control first and was bullied off it which is why I probably wouldn't give a red card.
But yeah, we won't be able to argue this one away which means we need to pray Caliafori stays fit for the next few games.
Should be a straight red for that tackle from behind on Trossard. We can't afford to lose any more players but we aren't getting any protection.
Sterling coming on. Nwaneri off. LOL.
And Nwaneri limped off.
Nwaneri taken off and it seems he is injured....wow.
I’ll be honest, I’m not really understanding why people are getting upset. Yes we’ve played poorly today but it doesn’t really matter does it?. We don’t have goalscorers on the pitch, we push up too high and we get punished. All this stuff about not playing with pace or intensity doesn’t really matter here.
Kudus, the best player on the pitch by a mile, is taken off
Inexplicably, it turns out you can't win a title by heaping the responsibilities on two kids and a CM in the striker role.
Saliba off, Ben White on.
I think the point is we're not doing anything right. This game could have easily ended as a bore draw with us having 11 men if we'd stuck to what we know how to do well.
Today, everybody decided to play like Brazil (of the old days) and we failed woefully in everything ....pretty sad watch.
Just need Ben White to pick up an injury and that's a wrap! Turn out the lights when you are leaving.
Did you really think having no strikers was going to change our approach to games?
I agree of course that a team as vulnerable to the counter attack as we are should be playing for draws and maybe looking to get a smash and grab. Plus the players we have available are low energy, we slag off Odegaard but he’s clearly carrying an injury. Rice? As I keep saying he’s not a number 8
8 mins stoppage time.
As Partey chips in with a piece of appalling play.
I really dislike when Odegaard passes the buck like this....he's been effing horrible this whole game and totally uninspiring!
Can't tell what the formation is, what the tactics are, can't recognise this team even by this season's standards. It's a complete collapse, in every sense. You can't tell me any of what we are seeing out there is connected in any way with the training ground. This is just pure, random shite.
Kudus almost creating another goal...I actually thought he had been taken off
Do we have an easier match than this for the remainder? Home vs West Ham?
I thought the Dubai break meant we could run teams like WH off the pitch. Instead it just meant we lost our only striker.
Raya now playing striker. Only role he hasn't played today.
0-1 FT.
Arteta's run of improving the previous season's points total is over. :rose:
FT 0-1
Not at all a surprise. The game as I said was over when West Ham went in front. We don’t have the capability to break down teams defending a lead (and in fairness we don’t really have it when everyone is fit, especially when Arteta insists on playing a defensive midfielder as a number 8)
Not going to criticise any of the players, because it really doesn’t matter who played poorly or not. The club’s hierarchy has set them up to fail. It’s going to get very unpleasant between now and the end of the season. And we’ve all been deluding ourselves into a fairy tale belief that somehow players who don’t look like scoring were somehow going to score
A result that should surprise no one.
We have nothing up front.
Roll on August.
Can't complain when you watch a performance like that. Did nothing to win it. Completely fell apart, tactically, technically, at the end. Pure shambles.
Big result for the hammers of course. Doubt they had that down as 3 points, unless they've noticed what Arsenal does every time we are in a position to gain points on a title rival.
Not that we are title rivals. Not even close.
SO
One of the kids, MLS, gone for 3 games.
The other kid limping off, if our luck changes maybe it's just a minor niggle.
So Nwaneri out for the rest of the season.
And Merino didn't really work (in any way, shape, or form) as a striker.
So that's plan Z out the window.
Don't tell me we'll have to rely on Odegard, Rice, Partey, Sterling - the big money boys - to shoulder the responsibility?
Apparently its West Ham's first clean sheet under Potter in any competition...if you are looking for a positive record, just play us.
We have the players who can up the tempo and play a more direct game, we've seen it, it works. We can't break teams down because we almost hand craft invitations for the opposition defence to meander back to their defensive positions. We are always facing masses ranks because it takes us 30+ passes to move the ball all around our own half before getting it into the opposition third. We have players like Saka, Nwaneri, Trossaard, Martinelli, tierney, these guys whould be playing at 100mph every match with their eyes fixed on the opposition goal. Instead they are expending 100% effort shuffling around the place trying to fill two, even three roles.
Just hump the fucking ball up the pitch and if you are going to use Merindo then he's good in the air, so use him as a target man. Then get that fucker down to either Partey or Odeagrd and hoof that fucker at the goal so the forwards can heap maximum pressure on the defence.
I thought we were supposed to be optimally fit, that the modern PL was agame for athletes? So why are we plodding around at 1mph? The fucking grass has grown by the time we transition up the pitch.
Ah well. At least I can relax now and ignore the rest of the season
