Surely - surely - the time is now right for him to bring out the "Yes of course, but you must remember" big gun..

What world class players have Spurs bought in this window?
All I know is they've lost a world class player that won them a lot of games last season. Actually, no, not a lot of games....the majority of their games. That's one big void to fill. So far they've beaten Palace and Swansea one nil with two penalties..... They're hardly ripping it up.
You mention the possibility of them signing Hulk, Lamela etc but that's just speculating. You may as well include us possibly buying Di Maria etc.
I think as it stands that Spurs certainly have a better squad than us. I don't think their first 11 is much better than ours if at all. Plus I'm convinced Arsene will buy one decent first team player for us which could make all the difference.
Spurs world class?
The full wenger quote isSo the media took a quote out of context, got arsenal fans angry because they knew they would react. It's hard to argue wenger isn't right there :coffee:Quote:
the media in general has brainwashed a little bit the emirates fans, maybe rightly so, I don't know, because we haven't won trophies for years, everything is negative
I don't perceive the signings Sperz have made to be world class at all, Soldado is probably the closest but that's it. What they have done correctly though is invest every penny from selling Bale, Levy has the right idea and rarely allows them to stand still which can't be said of the people who run our club. We've only been a point better than them for the past 2 seasons, the margins are fine and if we don't get our act together we could easily be on the other side of that point this season.
The man lives in a bubble, he simply cannot or will not accept that the reason the fans are angry is eight years without a trophy because of serious lack of investment in the squad and a willingness to sell our best players to rivals. Now should we expect to win trophies?...No but we should expect to compete for them when we pay one of the highest ticket prices in Europe.
It's simple enough for even a garrulous individual like me to sum it up in a paragraph
The thing that the spuds have done well, is that they've realised that they were massively shit in most areas of their team last season bar Bale.
They then went out, and have effectively spent and brought in solid replacements for their shit players like Gallas/Adebayor .
So although they've now lost Bale, they're much more well rounded overall as a team. We'll see if their signings turn out to be good, but so far they're off to a winning start.
I'm hoping we can have a few new players by the time the derby starts, Flamini can do another Corluka 'foul' and injure Soldado hopefully.
the fact taht so many people got angry at wenger after hearing the brainwash comment, before reading the whole quote proves his point. everyone got angry, then read it and calmed down. weneger doesnt help himself at times and shouldnt talk but the media do just cherry pick his quotes to suit their agendas. this is case and point.
Would love all 4. No chance of anyQuote:
Arsenal believe they can still persuade Rooney to sign for them, with manager Arsene Wenger also keen on QPR keeper Julio Cesar.

Arsenal have been told they must pay £20m if they are to sign Newcastle midfielder Yohan Cabaye, 27.

The Gunners are also considering a £38m move for Real Madrid's 24-year-old midfielder Mesut Ozil.

Suggesting someone is getting brainwashed is pretty patronising in whatever context you put it in, most haven't been brainwashed they've seen the club being sh*t on the pitch and being sh*t off the pitch, it's nothing to do with the media.
Wenger loves to absolve himself of any blame, it's like he lives in a bubble where everything he does is right and every thinks what he does is right unless an external force brainwashes them into thinking otherwise.
Maybe the fans should counter his brainwash claim by telling him he's been in his own little deluded Wenger bubble for 8 years now.
There's kids that still believe in Santa, doesn't mean he exists....we have no chance of getting Rooney no matter how much we believe (not so long ago he believed we could still get Suarez). If we wanted Cesar you'd think we'd have snapped him up by now, he's been available all summer.
20 million for Cabaye, move along.
We'll never get Ozil, can't see Real selling and even if they did why would he come to Arsenal, another pipedream signing....10 years ago I would have believed nowadays no way.
A week to go and we're still being linked with players we're not going to get or really don't need. How about some realistic targets for a change, ones to fill weak positions on the team.
The full quote you posted does nothing to dilute the statement. He still thinks the media are the caused the fans anger, not his obstinate humbug about trying to prove, he can do without improving his squad and still compete with the other teams going for the league. The man is obsessed with himself. If he does not buy anyone now, by March we will be out of all competitions and people like you will be telling us to wait till end of the season when he will definitely buy players.
Exactly.
That's what the Spuds have done. Got realistic targets to strengthen their squad whilst we got a postman.
It's embarrassing to think that the only way we'll get top 4 this season is cos of another Spuds collapse rather than our own doing cos Spuds will not collapse one season and then we'll be fucked. This might be the season.
We need players in asap
This is a language thing, he doesn't mean brainwashing in the normal, "This is the BBC", sense. He means the endless repetition of filler fluff which then finds its way into the fans' vocabulary. I'm guessing the lack of trophies is a much bigger problem for the media than the fans. From what I can tell we want to see entertaining and competitive football that warrants the very high prices being demanded. It's good though if people are angry at the suggestion they are brainwashed because it's rare to find somebody who isn't, maybe not in terms of sport but certainly in terms of news, history, etc, etc. I do hope people are as angry about that because it's much more important and really does become a matter of life and death on many occasions.
Yup exactly, Spuds have signed players who will give them something extra even if they are not the very best around, let's face it that's our level now, we've let things slide for a number of years and realistically we're not going to attract the top tier of players because they want to play for clubs who have proved they are a success or who show genuine ambitions to be successful by putting their money where their mouth is.
Pretty much, Wenger is just so deluded he doesn't see what's happening in front of his eyes and still believes in this fantasy that this team is capable of challenging and winning silverware.
If he's not learnt that by now, he's never going to learn it.
I don't think you need to be brainwashed to realise that not winning a thing in 8 years, selling all your best players, seeing the same pattern and errors every season, not spending on quality players and settling for 4th every season is a bad thing. That's got nothing to do with the media, it's got to do with the way the club is run and managed.
I didn't need to media to tell me we were on the way down in 2007, in fact they were still claiming we were the dogs b*llocks then.
If anything, the media ae playing catch-up with the views of the fans, and even then they are still getting it wrong.
The brainwashing started with Gazidis and his 'we have 70M to spend.'
We're in talks with Palace to sell Bendtner apparently.
Palace are brilliant.
Bendtner and Chamakh up front for Palace :haha:
He shouldn't have used the word brainwashing as that really does insult the intelligence of fans and is offensive but he is sort of correct in that the media aren't helpful in their sensationalism. One week we're in absolute crisis and after a couple of wins against some average teams we're suddenly close to winning the title with a couple of additions.
Anyway OT, I've been hearing that apparently we have agreed a fee with RM for Di Maria, just trying to convince the player to make the move now. Would be a great transfer if we pull it off. Just need to add Bender and a striker and we can salvage the summer transfer window somewhat.
Cabaye? Di Maria? Rooney?
Doubt any of them will come off tbh. Still, it's nice to dream.
I can see some truth in the Cesc rumblings, his new girlfriend is reportedly in London with her other children / wants to stay in London to bring up his daughter.
Then again, I'm usually a mug regarding transfers
Cesc, his bitch and his bitches kids can fuck off tbh
Why on earth would Di Maria come here?
If we had showed more intent and invested into weaker areas of the squad, I'd understand someone like Di Maria willing to come... As of now though, its really hard to see why someone would make a step down from Real to us.
Game time I guess especially in a World Cup season.
Also, we're The Arsenal. A massive club. And we are actually quite good sometimes.
