Not to discredit Athletic Bilbao and Sporting Lisbon in any way, but this was a seriously pathetic European showing from the Manchester clubs. Two of the most expensive squads in the world and to just flop out like a bunch of amateurs is beyond embarrassing. One of them will pub their way to the title, so it will be forgotten instantly. Or conveniently, I should say. United's - especially this current United with future world 'superstars' like Jones, Wellshit, Smalling - energetic GHEL style is perfect for the Premier League. But overpowering teams will never work in the face of rapidly evolving Spanish and German teams.

I think everyone on the continent is following Barca's blueprint. It's clearly the most effective form of football now and if Prem sides want to progress in Europe again they need to rethink their strategy.
