We're Game of the Day again on SS2.
Actually, you have a point there. He pulls his arm back. The play acting towards the camera and the smirk with the ref seems to suggest he knew exactly what he was doing. I trust Ferdinand's refusal to shake hands, Evra's attempted tackle on Suarez, Evra confronting Suarez in the tunnel and his post-match celebrations will be reported on in equal measure. And as Villas-Boas mentioned last week, the interviewers are so laughably hypocritical and biased that's it's almost unbelievable.
Either way, the whole handshake thing should be abolished. Especially as it now seems to be compulsory. At the very least it should have been done away with for today's game.
I'm now convinced Suarez is off in the summer, as well. Madrid would be my bet.
I think they were both quite reluctant to go through with anything. Evra's grabbing afterwards is no indication that he wanted a handshake - with Suarez past him, it was the chance to gain some moral high ground and warp peoples' minds. Pretty sly, but that's what dickheads do. But yeah, it's all theatre for Sky. Has been ever since the Terry/Bridge thing. If you don't like someone, why should you have to shake their hand? The fuss when Wenger doesn't bother with some prat like Mark Hughes is laughable. More pointless moralising from everyone. Evra or Suarez had every right to ignore one another without any of this.
Yep, they're both as childish as each other.
I forgot to mention the media's lapping up of Ferguson. Most of his comments are way out of line anyway but to suggest who should and should not play for Liverpool based on a handshake, when he has not only stood up for but championed players who have deliberately ended a player's career, karate-kicked a spectator, missed drug tests, had extra marital affairs and more besides beggars belief.
And how about the time when Carroll, Keane, Scholes and Rooney all refused to shake Vieira's hand? I assume he sacked them all...
But he knows he will get away with it with today's media and that he and his team will always come up smelling of roses.
Fergie WUMming. I would say the most unfortunate thing will be Evra being seen as some sort of dignified hero now. Fuck off.
MOTD on in 5 mins.
Although I'll probably tune in after Spurs and Harry plaudits are done with.
