I have to say, before the WC I didn't really view him as being as good as some of the other big-name strikers that we were being linked with, but having watched a few of these guys in action now, I'd say he's probably looked the most natural, no-nonsense CF out of those targets (by which I mean there'd be no pissing around trying to convert him into a CF from another position, or where we'd have him in some elaborate system as a false 9, or where he's allowed to drift wide, while other players come central, etc)...
Haven't heard much about Isco since he moved, but I'm sure I read somewhere that the Real mob hadn't really taken to Illamarendi, and that there was even talk of sending him back to Sociedad as part of a swap for Griezmann? Not sure where Real would actually be able to fit Griezmann in, but stranger things have happened with that lot...
I don't think Martinez is much of an improvement over a c-lister like Remy. He's certainly not worth £30m or whatever.
I'm pretty sure the Arsenal pining is regurgitated monthly too.
You go to heathrow, get a one way ticket to Paris. Play a bit more beach football in your blue briefs for a few hours, go to the football ground, ask to meet the president. You offer £50m for Cavani, then when the billionaire laughs in your face, you tell him to fuck off and rent a europcar. Drive down the coastline to Barcelona. Drop a £35m cheque for Sanchez. After they accept, you ring Alex Song to meet up for a drink, laugh at him throughout. Get back in your car and drive to Calais. Get some duty-free red. Take a ferry to Southampton, throw £35m in cash for Schneiderlin and Chambers, and drive back home, and figure out plans for the league trophy parade. All this could be done in 48 hours. Instead we'll piss about until 31st August and wait till we drop some league points before we act. Fucking Wenger ruining everyone's lives.
Just edited as you said.
Moreover I am increasingly suspecting Cavani is not worth 50 million or that sort of money.... He has looked no better than Edin Djeko in the last year or so.....and Djeko gets quite a bit of stick on here.
Martinez I think is worth 30 million or not far off it. He can certainly finish, is nimble, mobile, reasonably quick and loves a dance celebration. I would still really like Bony, who is not world class but is reliable, scores all sorts of goals and you get the feeling you know what you'll get from him from game to game.
Isco is a fantastic player and Real will play the waiting game for him to come of age there but Illaremendi was never going to play much for Real with Alonso and Modric being deployed deep.
I actually think a small handful of Real players are available, but it will be for a fee similar to Ozil's....and I'm not sure that is going to be the norm after years of stacking notes in a shoe box under the bed.
If we get Debuchy (who is a reasonably good player albeit) I will laugh.
