I think the fact we still can't spell his name speaks volumes about his state of affairs at the club, although I always liked the look of him myself.
Remy is a good player, but with a right back to confirm, a CB to sign a keepers and a DM, I can't help but think signing him will be overkill with Sanchez. I am not crazy about him as a CF either.
Wenger already came out and said Gnabry didn't play more because he didn't want to put him under too much pressure when the team was under it. Let's not forget he did pretty well though and is a little unlucky to not be pushing for more game time than he is. I wouldn't be against the loan because, Sanchez, Podolski, Walcott, Chamberlain and Cazorla covering the wide positions is enough.
And to go off on a tangent, Giroud is not as good as Wilfried Bony, though many of us believe he is. Bony is much better in the air, better with the ball at his feet, a better finisher and at least equally as strong.
If we had Benteke or several other prem players they'd have no less goals for us than Giroud imo.
Giroud is starting to stick out like a sore thumb / baboon's arse the more proper quality players we bring in. I suppose we might Bayern our way to the league title, but the difference is, Mandzukic is one of the best forwards in Germany but Giroud is not one of the best forwards in the prem. And even then, Bayern have just gone out and signed the actual best forward in Germany, in Lewandowski whilst Sanogo is our second choice forward.
Last season I hated Giroud as much as the next man, especially towards the end. But the thing you have to realise is that he needs the right players around him to be effective, Arsene couldn't give him this in the 2nd half of the season when he chose to sign Kim Kallstrom and no-one else. Then Feo got injured, Ramsey got injured, Ox got injured. Suddenly, theres no pace and no runners from midfield or out wide. Giroud was fucked. Get Ramsey, Sanchez and Feo on the pitch with him and he is a great striker.
Not ideal but unless we want to spend another 30-40m which we don't then we have to work with him!
Giroud will be absolutely fine with some proper support.
Also, word on the street is......
We are also near to completing a deal for Remy
I should make it clear that I've never hated him or even disliked him......even when he wasn't playing well. Each player has to be in the team on their own merit. He will improve with the return and acquisition of a player or two but however you look at it he is not a top notch forward. That is what it will nearly always come down to. If we aren't trying to win the league, or CL then fair enough we should make do and he is 'fine' but if we want to win those things we need to start getting real.
What is actually wrong in spending 30-40m on the right CF, whoever he may be? We do have the money and even if we didn't it is still a position a club with our ambitions should be looking to fill. Let's not forget that a CF was our top target only last season. Sanogo and Giroud hasn't somehow turned that on it's head....at least the place the ideas were emanating from.
Using the word ‘great’ rather loosely, don’t you think? He’ll never be that. Adequate, maybe? We shouldn’t be trying to accommodate an average striker during a transfer window. I just don’t think it’s worth the hassle. It’s like fitting the very best, money can buy, Pirelli race tires on a standard Ford Focus. We’ll probably eek a little more out of the performance but never enough to rival the world’s best. Great support but we’d still have a very weak engine. The conversation then flips to ‘how can we get more out of the support’ ala Ozil.
Well I see your points, Giroud is not the man to be running onto Ozils through balls. Giroud can not win a game on his own. Id agree with that, but my opinion is that we can still win the league with Giroud as our main striker - hes not as bad as everyone makes out. Like I said I was cursing him as much as anyone at the end of last season but on reflection he had zero support from midfield, from the wings, from anywhere. This made him look exceptionally bad and killed his confidence, he needs support to be effective (like most strikers!!) but when he does get this support and confidence I think he can be a great striker. I hope he proves this.
Maybe also, as you pointed out, Giroud needs more than just Sanogo up his arse fighting for a spot. Would Sanogo get anywhere near a City first team or a Chelsea first team? I dont think so, even Demba Ba will be laughing that Sanogo is our 2nd best striker. I don't think Sanchez is a CF, so I think Remy would be a good signing.
We haven't sold anyone this TW how cool is that? Sagna has moved on but its not like hes in his prime, no big loss imo.
Daily Fail link us with Khedria but apparently he earns more at Madrid than Ozil does here, so we'd need to pay OTT in wages to get him.
That's surprising? Every time I hear of someone like Özil / Benzema / Di Maria etc wanting to leave Madird, they always seem to be on relatively low wages (by the top-clubs' standards, anyway) - did Khedira join them on a free or something, or was he just Jose Mourinho signing?
