German engineering: Arsenal plan £70m Bundesliga raid for Mario Goetze, Lars Bender and Robert Lewandowski
Arsene Wenger is poised to make a dramatic £70million raid on *Germany this summer.
The Gunners boss has three targets, who play in the Bundesliga, and is willing to shatter club record fees to rebuild his squad.
On the Arsenal shortlist are *Borussia Dortmund pair Robert Lewandowski and Mario Goetze, with Lars Bender, of Bayer Leverkusen.
Striker Lewandowski – valued at £25m – is also wanted by *Manchester United, Chelsea and Bayern Munich, but Gunners manager Wenger is keen to land the 24-year-old Poland international.
His team-mate Goetze is rated as one of the most talented young players in Germany. The 20-year-old is already a member of the senior international squad.
And Bender, 24 next month, is another German international Wenger wants. He has been in outstanding form this season with Leverkusen.
The need for new arrivals has been highlighted by the news Abou Diaby’s injury jinx has struck again. He suffered a serious knee *injury in training and could be out until next year.
Chief scout Steve Rowley and his team have been scouring the German league in recent months.
But Wenger is also *considering a move for £8.5m-rated Olympique Lyons midfielder Maxime Gonalans, 24.
Would be more plausible should they start changing up the war chest figure - £70 mil figure needs to be a bit retired now.
No chance of getting any of them
Our "shortlist" will have one top player on it, a player we know we have no chance on getting but will try nonetheless to make fans think we're trying to do business and sign top quality.
When we fail we'll have no backup and will sign some journeymen and French nobodies (+1 or 2 kids)
Are we desperate?Quote:
England midfielder Jack Wilshere got a taste of just how desperate Arsenal fans are to have him back in the side after he was mobbed at traffic lights while driving his car outside the Emirates.

I don't want him rushed back at all. WHen you look at the fixtures remaining, few of them fit into a category so borderline that my prediction would change depending on whether Wilshere was in the team or not.
Notable exceptions are Everton at home and Newcastle away.
I expect he'll be brought back for the Everton match - whether that is the right thing to do is another matter.
