What happened against Tottenham at the Emirates?
When we are playing at home we have more chance to dictate the pace of the game
For a side like Tottenham aren't the opportunities to attack with pace (which I don't think they have anywhere near to the level of last season incidentally) going to be more fruitful away?
On the line-up of who played midweek and whether that means they play on Saturday, It's a difficult one because they do have Juventus away on Tuesday.
Ignoring the fact that the average wank, is everything outside of 5 teams in the top 6 (making up most of the bleeding games) maybe the solution is to bring the consistency and compentency of those around him so he doesn't get exposed....
Or maybe we should bin Holding, Chambers for their lack of pace....perhaps Kos too as his waning ankles won't make him any quicker.
Maybe the solution is not to play a guy who is average at best
I don’t know where chambers or holding come into this. I think Chambers is not especially good and Holding is slow (but not suggesting playing either). I’ve laid out in black and white what I think the back four should be who plays in front of it etc.
Average at best is a daft assessment but each to their own officer Sherbert.
I don't get the home/ away thing. Teams that do well at home and get fucked when away have a weak, girly mentality as far as I'm concerned. If it was me, I'd be more up for it on enemy territory than at home. Still a football pitch, still a ball, still a set of goals. Only real difference I can see, provided our darling professionals can at least tune out the hostile crowd (a bare minimum requisite at this level surely), is the ref who can be a homer. But apart from that, what's the difference. Or what's the difference that could be excused in relation to a professional sportsman?
Monreal is one of the first names on the team sheet.
He’s not without his flaws but I don’t believe he’s in grave danger of being roasted by Spurs. He’ll be fine. It’s the midfield that will likely lose us the game if they’re not at it.
Stat time
This is Wengers 52nd North London Derby in all competitions
Of the previous 51 he has won 23 drawn 20 and lost 8
9 of those wins came at The Emirates (7 in the league, 1 in the fa cup, 1 in the league cup)
7 of those wins came at Highbury (all in the league)
6 of those wins came at White Hart Lane (4 in the league, 2 in the league cup)
1 win came at Old Trafford in the Fa cup semi final of 2001
We’ve scored 94 goals in those 51 games to Spurs’ 64 goals
Of the 21 league games we’ve played under Wenger away at Spurs we’ve scored 31 goals - 13 in the first half, 18 in the second half
Addendum
Last three times we’ve played Spurs at Wembley were twice in 1991 and once in 1993 - a loss, a draw and a win
Money can't be the reason why he won't bench Xhaka, can it? Wenger is so odd. He has no problem benching Lacazette and already has his replacement at playing ahead of him. Laca was our record signing not so long ago! I can't work out what is going on with Xhaka and how he keeps getting games.
I can imagine Xhaka in training looks like Xabi Alonso. Being able to ping the ball from all distances under no pressure.
Begin to press him though and he’ll fold completely, I don’t know how Wenker can trust him so much.
Wilshere, Xhaka and Elneny
Change of formation then?
Jenas, Keown and Rio in the studio for BT.
Packing the midfield, the key battle ground.
Wenger
Spuds: Lloris, Trippier, Sanchez, Vertonghen, Davies, Dier, Dembele, Eriksen, Dele, Son, Kane.
Aurier not playing, I for one am shocked.
Sanchez had a stinker against Liverpool, although he has been good all season. Put pressure on him from the off
Keown talks some utter bollocks.
Well he’s still under the illusion that Xhaka is in anyway a defensive midfielder
We don’t have those, arguably even Elneny isn’t really just not technically good enough to do anything else
Poch doing us a favor again by leaving Rose and Aurier on the bench. Same with Wanyama
