I'm not saying he had a shit team around him and my analogy was a deliberate exaggeration. My point is he was not solely responsible for us not winning anything and had we not had him in that era we'd probably have been the poorer for it. We failed to win things despite him being in the team, not because he was in the team.
I haven't lost hope/ambition of us becoming a real force again but it's unrealistic to think we're suddenly going to bridge the huge gulf in class between us and a team like Barca. It's stepping stones and signing good players, and Cesc clearly is one, would be a step in the right direction after so many steps in the wrong one.
Would he make us as good as Barca? Obviously not.
Would he improve our squad? I think so.
Is he the only player who could? Of course not.
I'm not desperate to see him back in an Arsenal shirt but I don't understand anyone being violently against the idea either as IMO he's improve the squad which is what we need to do.
So Lord Wenger and the boys are off to Asia for however long.... 23:59 last day rummaging of the bargain basement bin then?
I will give you everything you say here except that him coming back would be a step in the right direction. We already have 2 Spanish B listers and one that hasn't made any list in Spain, last thing we need is their biggest flop. We should be looking to remodel our team of late 90's - mid 2000's (seems to be working well for Bayern), not cram our team with lightweight duds.
On a slightly less related note, I don't understand why the ****, who's no less of a **** than RVC, Nasri, et al, gets such a free pass on here.
Remember when we got smashed 8-2, we went out and bought loads of players.
Hopefully some Vietmanese team destroys us.
But if it takes something like that to make the board spend, then the board can just fuck off and die
Looks like Thiago is off to Bayern.
Moyes :haha:
Does that mean Cesc def staying put? Can't see them selling both.
