Nothing there
Actually think it's worked out quite well for us.
As most on here are aware I've got quite a hard on for Grease man but Sanchez is comfortably the better player right now so out of the two there's no question we went for the right player. However him going to Atletico isn't the kiss of death of us possibly getting him in the future as despite the good season their players still can be bought by a club like us. This probably wouldn't be the case had he ended up at PSG, Liverpool, United, Chelsea etc etc.
Probably will need to bid 40 - 50 million a couple of years now though. :coffee:
Odd to see a manager on twitter.
He's probably the most necessary quick fix they needed and will be a worth the money if he can become a steady presence at the back. Their defenders are either inconsistent or injury-prone or Kolo.
Bertrand Is Boss, do you see Lovren being first choice alongside Squirtle or Sakho? Or Kolo. I'm assuming Agger will probably go and Illori will be fourth choice.
In terms of talent and even instant impact, I think Markovic is by far their best signing. He looked impressive every time he played for Benfica in Europe and seems to be a really hard worker as well. Surprising that Chelsea didn't decide to hoard him too.
Hull bid £3m for Jenkinson. If he's serious about his career I think he should think about moving. From Arsenal's perspective I think it's unclear what the best solution is. He's obviously got a long way to go but he has impressed in games against good opposition. Had a few shockers too but so have most of our younger players like Gibbs and Ramsey. His strengths are obvious - he's a fantastic athlete, and much of football these days does tend to rely a lot on that. Just a shame he's allergic to the football.
Think we should probably loan him out and see how he does with regular premier league football. He'd be a first choice at Hull who would be defending all the time. If he's no good, we risk pissing away a million or two from the fee being offered now. If he's good we could get a higher fee or keep him in the squad next season.
They need to invest in a defensive coach. I heard Rodgers was interested in bringing Hyypia back in that role but I'm not sure how much truth there was in that.
They need a Steve Bould to work on that defence and organise them. Individually they're good players but together they're a circus act. A bit like us 3 years ago until Bouldy came.
In an age of mercenaries who couldn't give a fuck about football or its traditions I think the value of a player who actually wants to be at the club and is proud to be at the club is overlooked. If the World Cup showed us anything it's that many of these "superstars" are only about 2% better than your average joe. Costa Rica, USA, and others demonstrated that teamwork is a viable alternative to 11 show ponies prancing around the place. We've got a good mix of stars and squaddies at Arsenal now, I think Jenks fits in well despite all the flak he gets. A loan deal wouldn't be a bad idea, but I hope we don't sell a decent enough kid who is learning and actually wants to be here. I don't want to end up with a squad of 30 mercs with their hands stuck out, always eyeing up the next move and talking shit about DNA. For those who say Jenks is poor, then what can be said about the £50mill David Luiz? Too much hype in footie, not enough genuine characters. Jenks is genuine. I like him. Hope he stays.
It's true but Wenger also values everything you mentioned there. He didn't give him many starts at all last year even though Sagna could've been a big injury candidate. Steve Bruce said he was led to believe Jenkinson was available this summer. Signs point to Wenger not really rating him, but nothing concrete yet so let's see.
I think if Jenko wasn't such an "Arsenal" man he would have been hounded out already. I personally like his dedication and feel he has shown some signs of potential, he is still very raw and makes plenty of mistakes though. Right now he is not at the level to be a regular starter for Arsenal, he's not even good enough to be backup IMO.
I personally would like us to keep him for now though, a season out on loan where he plays regular football in PL would be the best for all parties involved, at least at the end of his spell we could judge whether we feel he has a future at the club and if we don't feel he does...then hopefully he would be in a position where he would be ready to take up a new challenge elsewhere.
