I imagine he will be our first signing. A deal is reportedly meant to be sealed this week but not heard anything new today yet.

I don't think they like us, that seems to be another problem in buying from the Prem, nobody will give us decent deals cos we're a bunch of foreign arseholes that need to be gotten the better of by the native British, witness Hughes blocking the Schwarzer move. Only choice is pay over the odds or walk away, we've been choosing the wrong one for a while now imo but hopefully will be willing to spend a little more and maybe swallow a bit of pride.
Hughes would have been a fool to accept peanuts for his first team goalkeeper. He wouldn't have been able to sign anyone else with the money we put up. No point in doing such deals. If there is no benefit in selling the player, then why go ahead with it?
Has nothing to do with us being foreign either. Tottenham paid silly money for Bent, Villa paid a lot for Bent, Man U have to pay a heft price for Young, did the same for Berbatov. These days you have to weigh up the value of the player with how much he's worth to the club.
Yeah, there are a lot of factors but I think our 'relationship' with other clubs in the Prem is something that often gets overlooked, you really think Shawcross would cost us and Man U the exact same amount (assuming we'd actually try and buy him)? Not saying it's a massive factor but something worth taking into consideration, most people are more willing to do business with those they like and respect rather than those they hate and demean, I get the feeling with most northern chairmen and managers we're more in the second category than the first.
In terms of Hughes, Fulham were willing to sell as they rated Stockdale and we offered a decent price for a guy that close to 40, whether Hughes blocked it purely down to footballing reasons or whether his spats with Wenger had any effect is pretty subjective, you can't prove the way someone thinks but imo his bias informed his decision.
Who? :unsure:Quote:
ADEL TAARABT has sensationally claimed he is a top transfer target for Arsenal and Chelsea.
But QPR star Taarabt admits his big-money move is stalling as the London rivals mull over his £10million price tag.
The Moroccan is hot property after his dazzling form helped fire Rangers to promotion to the Premier League.
And he said: "QPR are demanding £10million for me and for now clubs aren't moving too much.
"I've had contact with Arsenal and Chelsea but it's a bit of a mess.
"Arsenal haven't sold Fabregas yet and Chelsea don't have a manager but I'd like to stay in London. It's the best city in the world."

Didnt he flop at the Spuds? No thanks
It would be funny if we sign the player that has exactly what we need and all those that slated Wenger for being too true to his morals/ethics or whatever start crying over it.
Barton, that is, not Taarabt, another small French attacking midfielder probably isn't what we need.
One year left on his contract. Swap for Clichy. We get the better end of the deal tbhQuote:
ALAN PARDEW is refusing to give up hope of keeping Spanish full-back Jose Enrique at Newcastle.
Enrique, 25, is yet to respond to a new contract offer as he enters the final year of his existing deal amid speculation that he will quit St James' Park this summer.
Arsenal are the latest club to be linked with Enrique, joining Liverpool in the hunt for a player who was one of the Magpies' most dependable performers last season.
But boss Pardew is desperate to hold on to him with Kevin Nolan having quit for West Ham and Joey Barton's future uncertain.
He said: "I'm still hopeful that Enrique — who was a big, big, big, big player for us last year — stays at the club and we can entice him to stay.
"We are not confident we can keep him, but we are not scared of losing him. It's somewhere in between, really.
"When you have only got a year left on a player of his ability, of course you are vulnerable, and I think it's nervous times for us."

Well as i always do, i look on the bright side of things and Barton coming to Arsenal will surely be the catalyst of all Arsenal fans turning on Wenger and getting rid of the fuckwit once and for all.
We can then hope the new man in gets rid of Barton asap and by get rid of, i dont mean selling him, i mean killing the cunt
One more reason to get Dein back, he's got contacts...
can you see Samba in our shirt though? When it started circulating at Xmas we wanted him i have had a mental image of him in the red and white, roaring as he heads another stoke throw in away from goal while simultaneously headbutting Shawcross and giving Rob Huth a yoga noogie.
Oh the sending off at St James Park. Good strong challenge, got the ball clearly and unless Barton is performed some kind of miracle, he couldnt stop and follwed through on Diaby.
Diaby sending off was his own fault. The challenge was fine and had one of our players done it, we'd be loving it.
Hell yes, our very own monster to let loose on those who displease us, wouldn't bet on him making too many starts in our annual Barca games in the CL but if anyone could cause Busquets enough pain to make his writhing seem reasonable, Samba's our man,
In fact I think I'm going to have to go and lie down for a bit now before I get too excited.
I think the Samba fan club are setting themselves up for great disappointment.
Nah, it wasn't necessary at all, given it was right through Diaby's bad ankle I'd say there might have been an element of malice and aforethought too. Diaby was stupid to react to the little scrote though, you wait until he next has the ball and then smash him legally, that's the Premiership way.
"There are 10 minutes left here and its Arsenal 6 Stoke 0 and its all getting a bit nasty as players look to settle scores as the game is essentially over. And whats this...the Arsenal fans appear to be chanting "Unleash the beast, unleash the beast" as Christopher Samba is taking his tracksuit off. Looking across the field a few of the Stoke players have gone very pale and Ryan Shawcross appears to be hiding behind Glenn Whelan"
Maybe, I'm not expecting him to carry it out from the back like Beckenbaur (apparently he did that, damn good at it on PES anyway) but just to carry all before him and climb a mountain of skulls to claim the Carling Cup, I don't think that's too much to ask.
With the signing of Samba, if it happens, hopefully its the sign of changing our defensive strategy as well cos continue as we are then Samba wont make one bit of difference.
Well apart from set pieces but then he cant mark all the opposing players in the box.
Given we conceded the least goals from open play in the entire league, I'd say that it's set-pieces where we need the help tbh. It's not the strategy that's at fault so much as the level of performances of the team as a whole, when we were hassling and actually working together as a team we were tight enough.
And there is a sub for Stoke Here, Ryan Shawcross is coming of to be replaced by Salif Diao and to escape the attention of his fellow lumbering moron, Chris Samba. But wait ther is movement from the Arsenal bench, oh oh and it seems that Joey Barton is now putting a cigar out in Shawcross's eye.
Whilst its good we are being linked with CBs, CMs and a few strikers, its a bit worrying that we dont seem to be after a keeper.
