Jan Vertonghen is ready to hand in a transfer request to force through a move to Tottenham as Spurs chairman Daniel Levy holds crunch talks with Ajax in Amsterdam on Monday. The defender has told his club that he is only interested in a move to White Hart Lane and wants the two teams to swiftly agree a fee.
The Belgian centre-back has already agreed personal terms with Spurs after a trip to London in which he was shown around their new training centre in Enfield and was a guest of the club at their last match of the season, a 2-0 home win over Fulham.
The move has hit a snag over the Dutch club’s £12.1 million asking price, although Goal.com understands that Ajax will accept £9.7m for a player who only has a year remaining on his contractSpurs have so far offered £8.1m for the defender, who was named Eredivisie Player of the Year for his outstanding contribution to Ajax’s title triumph.
It is believed that Vertonghen is prepared to hand in a transfer request in order to push through the deal if talks on Monday result in stalement and the two clubs cannot secure an agreement.
The 25-year-old has his heart set on a move to White Hart Lane and his mind has not been changed by events in Munich on Saturday night, when Chelsea’s Champions League triumph relegated Spurs to the Europa League next season.
Tottenham made an official move for the Belgian at the start of this month having failed with an attempt to sign him in January and Vertonghen has settled on the north Londoners because he believes that he will be able to play more regularly in his favourite centre-back position for a Champions League-calibre club.
."Vertonghen has settled on the north Londoners because he believes that he will be able to play more regularly in his favourite centre-back position"Manager Harry Redknapp considers the defender a key part of his plans for next season and a long-term replacement for club captain Ledley King, who suffers from ongoing knee problems.
“Tottenham are absolutely my favourite," the defender told De Telegraaf earlier this month. "Tottenham is a fantastic football club that has the tradition I want. They buy young, eager, offensive-minded players.
“[But] the Ajax board are asking for a very big amount for a player whose contract is running out in year.
“I trust that both Tottenham and Ajax will put some water in the wine and they will soon reach an agreement."
Spuds' centre-backs have an average age of 50. Ledley King is made of cheese. I guess he is a priority signing.
Still can't believe they got one over us with Capi.
Wenget out.
SSN reckon Hazard prefers a move to United.
Meanwhile Chelsea have also entered the frame.
Are Juventus going for bigger fish? Messi, perhaps?
Man Utd would be ideal for Hazard, I think. And vice-versa.
We've seen this story before. He'll get his game ironed out, turn into a goalscoring freak, win a few titles and then join Real Madrid for £120m in 2016.
Where is Juve getting all this money from? They were in the shitter a few years back and were fined massively as well. Yet, they are back up with the best and looking to sign players with big money. WTF did I miss? Why cant a stable club like ours spend half of that a season? Forget half, we dont even spend what we make off of transfers! :banghead:
Dids is leaving Chelsea.
Must Get™.
Can beast in some +1s in the Cups and finally get us a TROPHY.
http://www1.skysports.com/football/n...t-Kagawa-priceQuote:
Borussia Dortmund's highly-rated Japanese midfielder Shinji Kagawa will cost prospective buyers around 20 million euros (£16.17m).
The club's owner Hans-Joachim Watzke revealed the German champions want a 'princely sum' despite the 23-year-old having just a year remaining on his contract.
Kagawa, who netted 17 goals for Dortmund this season to help them secure a second consecutive title, has already met for talks with Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson, while he has also been linked to other high-profile clubs including Arsenal, Chelsea and AC Milan.
But Watzke told Sport Bild that the club would not be fooled into selling him for a derisory price.
Abilities
"We all know the abilities of Shinji, his youth and the value he adds to this side," said Watzke.
"I also note what Bayern Munich paid for goalkeeper Manuel Neuer (22 million euros from Schalkelast year).
"He also only had a year left on his contract. Given those facts we can certainly expect a princely sum for him."
Kagawa will pay back his fee in shirt sales alone tbf.
And also when he scores the winner for us at Wembley next May. :good:
Seriously though, with Hazard apparently preferring a move to United, I think there's a #decent chance we may go for Kagawa. Can't see United buying both.
Would rather get Hazard
