When was the last time Aussies were whitewashed? India are back. Only SA are likely to stop them regaining number 1 spot. Aussies and England are shit. The rest were never good enough.
Currywash achieved. Indians back on track at home (actually, don't think I've seen a currywash previously, so credit due for that). It's not quite one to be jumping for joy about. Good to see Pujara continue to stack up the runs and Ashwin improving. But it is a crack-papering job. You can't expect to remove any assistance for the new ball bowlers and expect it not to be. These turning pitches make for better spectacles than the usual Indian fare of flat tracks and attritional Test matches, and credit to India for clinically sweeping Australia aside on them. But it'll catch up with them soon. The batsmen will be completely out of practice against lateral movement and the likes of Ishant Sharma will continue to be useless passengers only there because everyone forgot about him. I would have confidence in Pujara, Yadav, Kohli etc. to perform overseas but the rest carry obvious question marks.
Yup. The trophy belongs to the groundsmen for expertly biasing games. That said, Australia won the toss and batted first all 4 times so you'd think that would even it out a bit. India tried the same thing against England but England just turned up with some better spinners and cleaned up. But definitely some improvement from India - particularly the openers...they usually got India off to a good start. I think Ashwin belongs in that list of players likely to perform away...if not with the ball, his batting average is pretty good. A promising start for trundler Kumar's son. If he can get it to swing so much in those conditions, he might do pretty well. He can bat a bit too.
India aren't playing another test until around November I think - when they're going to SA ( :haha: ). A bit ridiculous and annoying if Tendulkar is still around for that. He's clearly past it and he's occupying the ideal no.4 position. Need to try Chand (aka new Kohli) after his U19 WC heroics.
It is hilarious how these Kumars who swing it miles keep appearing. BK showed some skill with the new ball but it's early days. If Ashwin is the sole spinner then the least he has to do is sustain pressure when bowling overseas.
Australia were terrible.
The problem with Tendulkar is that he is genuinely the worst-performing batsman in the team. You could make a case for him sticking around on 'experience' grounds if he was say, the fourth best batsman. And given the debacles on the last two away tours that doesn't look like getting any better in November. There was some talk about him waving goodbye to the crowd or some bollocks today so who knows.
Crowd in NZ sucks. No wonder England are flat.
It's most Test matches tbh. Not just a NZ thing.
It's dying and sooner the plug is pulled and we concentrate on the future of cricket then the better
Why? There is literally no excitement left in Tests. No close finishes, 5 days of blocks and leaves and matches ending in a draw, crowds feel they are wasting their money so no one goes.
It's so far behind ODIs and T20s in terms of excitement, skill, etc etc
They need to change something. Having limited overs for each innings would be a start. Means batsmen would have to score quick and for the team rather than take 300 balls to score 40 runs and just be interested in their averages. Looking at Trott here.
I mean there are back to back Ashes series coming up for the first time in long time if not ever yet there is no interest in it. Aussies see winning in India as their holy grail these days.
Fulton gets another century. Got this one after smacking a six down the ground from Broad's bowling.
194-4.
