So's my wife.

I don't think you should get done for it. I do however think you should be ostracised for it because if you have to resort to that shit either to 'hurt' someone or to reinforce to yourself that you are better than 'them', you are an idiot with a small mind that is definitely inferior. Discriminate against someone in the employment market or whatever - the law has a place and needs to intervene. But petty name calling - on a football pitch where all other sorts of insulting behavior occurs? Come on.
I don't think it matters that it's a football pitch. Specifically about this case, I think that it's tricky because the incident is not clear cut to all us viewers. I've read Evra said something like "Don't touch me you're South American" and this along with the fact that Evra is a massive gobby cunt that surely gave as good as he got makes us annoyed that he is seen to be the victim.
Had it been Barton or Karl Henry (ok, bad example) saying something to Theo - not saying you specifically - but I think more would be happy with the ban. But there's the trouble with designing laws - you can't say "If a pussy like Theo is racially abused, give Barton 8 games....if a twat like Evra is, it's fair game".
How comes we're all big and ugly enough on here to take it? This place is full of comments that some gimp could come along and report and make a big deal of. It's public, anyone can read it. But there's context. If anyone was seriously going to launch into a racist tirade the whole forum would jump on them (and agree). We could have the mods crack down and turn the whole place into a sterile shithole where everyone says happy and nice things all the time. But then the place would be sterile, as in no people. Not saying Suarez and Evra were joking around, but the incident was between them, the crowd couldn't hear any of it, there was no need to create such a fuss over fuck all. And if Evra can't take it he should piss off and join the Lib Dems or something. I don't condone it either, mostly because it doesn't concern me, it's none of my business. Same would apply to Barton, I;ve already said the Terry thing is just as hysterical, even if that negro Walcott was abused I wouldn't care unless Theo started to cry, in which case I;d probably stick up for him by punching somebody in the gob. Problem solved.
:) I was one of the lucky ones - found the railway station, got the train to London, got a place at Northern Polytechnic on Holloway Road (now Uni of Nth London) got digs in Highbury (Conewood St), went to a football match at my local club just at the end of the street, watched the Arsenal stuff Newcastle 4-0 (6th Oct 1971) and was hooked.
Imagine - I could have worked in a fish & chip shop in Hull watching Hull City but had the fortune to be a computer buff in London watching the Arsenal. Gratitude for my fortune is putting it mildly.
So when people moan that we only got a draw or something, I just think they should look at what we have got compared to most other club's supporters.
I kinda get what NQ is saying, but there are always other issues here.
On a football pitch, yeah, it's just petty name calling, and is not going to cause people much bother personally. But in an environment where kids are watching their idols, isn't it better that the powers that be (corrupt or not) deal with it with punishment befitting the knob who said it? I'd far rather a cunt on 100k a week was given an 8 match ban, than have nothing happen "because it's not harmed anyone". I'd rather kids watching had some indication that racism is wrong, and isn't tollerated in this country.
The media circus that surrounds it?? Well, we don't really need to dicuss it. We all know it's bullshit, and blatently disregards the message in the first place. It's a witch hunt for the sake of a wicth hunt.
