Climbing coming home :trophy:

KJT didn't get the long jump score she needed and now needs to win the 800m tonight by about 8 seconds over Thiam to get gold, her personal best is only 6 seconds ahead of Thiam so pretty unlikely, pity but she just can't seem to get it together for the Olympics
I think the story of this Olympics for Team GB is that people have let slip when they had the chance to secure Gold
But it’s all kind of fine margins
I was going to say "but we must be doing better than the last Olympics" but actually no. 14 golds so far, 22 last time.
Wasn't it 2000 when we got 1 or 2 or something? Since then they pumped in a lot of Lottery money and that's clearly had an effect.
We're the Man City of the Olympics tbh.
You’ll find that it’s likely the same story with a lot of other countries. What you get out is what you put in, it’s not the same instant gratification as City but you’re paying for the facilities and coaching and time for young people to develop in certain sports. It’s investment, and actually it’s a good thing.
Silver in the women’s 4x100m final.
Great run.
Actually some of the handovers weren’t great but I don’t think they’d have beaten the US anyway
And bronze in the men’s. US completely bolloxed it up
Good silver for KJT last night, her first Olympic medal
Ok I’ve reached my limit of what constitutes a sport
Anything that needs to be accompanied by music is not a sport
 I saw someone say something similar on FB. If it needs a DJ then it probably isn't a sport.
Same conversation we had the other day. I like things like diving actually and I can appreciate the skill. But any sport which needs judges to say how nicely you did it...
Apparently squash is having a go in 2028. I have mixed feelings about that. It's the only sport I've ever been good at - dad played and taught me, I played a lot in my teens and 20s.
But it's not that good a spectator sport. I think the ball is just a bit too small for TV and moves too fast, it's hard to follow.
It is and it comes round to excluding boxing if you are determining that subjective judgement excludes the sport
For me sport is physical competition and therefore technically break dancing or whatever else can fit into that mould.
It’s I guess always going to be a balance between not being too exclusive and letting silly stuff count as Olympic event
In some ways I’m inclined to be more for stuff like skateboarding, climbing etc than I am football, tennis and golf being involved. Mainly because they are sports that stand up in their own rights. Let Athletes and other events have their day for the fortnight.
At least in climbing there's objective measures of who won - with speed climbing it's a race, there's the other type our bloke got a gold in where you have to get as high as you can without falling.
Debatable whether it's a sport really but there's a lot of grey areas.
You're right about boxing, to me it's clearly a sport but you're right in that it's judged. Difficult, innit?
I guess if horse dancing and dancing in water (synchro) can be sports then why not human dancing (to which my answer would be none of them should be in!)
The Madison be like:

Bronze in the 1500m. Good run
Bronze in the 4x400 relay. Another good run.
High jump went to penalties, New Zealand bloke won
And bronze for the ladies too.
Good effort, I thought she was going to get run out of the medals but she held on.
Makes me even gladder he lost
No disrespect to you but have heard one or two athletes say god helped them over the line etc, but in which case why is god helping them over others, i thought he helped everyone? I wish these people would just believe in their own ability
Yeah, I’m not that convinced that God “supports” anyone.
It’s definitely not Spurs
Hassan wins the marathon…having got bronze in the 5,000m and the 10,000m
That is mental!
I’m enjoying the Olympic breakdancing

BBC commentators discussing some French song being sung during the closing ceremony and who would know the words
“This part is just ‘la, la, la, la, la’…which translates as ‘the, the, the, the, the’”
Actually, this is quite good
Oh, now you reply when you have a menial talking point? I missed you.
My comment was sarcasm related to the IOC who have stringently pursued anyone infringing their "property" during the worst Olympic Games in history. But I get why you don't get it. You aren't looking at a widescreen, you are looking at narrow Internet points because you are small.
I reply to most of your posts.
Your long one the other day, I started to reply but decided it needed a bit more time which I haven’t had yet.
This was not easy to find I've been trying for days

How tf did this make it to the olympics.
