And yet he might well have put us through last night....what with his tendency to smash the ball into the back of a goal. :d

Podolski is not a bad player. That small synopsis does not show the actual time spent on the pitch. He needs proper management. In the right team, with the right manager. He can get you 20 goals a season easy. He does`nt miss the sitters that all our other strikers do. If he had hit that Welbeck shot that hit the player, the chap would require medical attention. More to the point it would have flown in the top of the net. He is exactly the type of player we needed in the last 20 mins yesterday. We should have taken off Welbeck and put him on. Unfortunately he dosent play Wengerball. so no hope for him here.
:gp:
He is a brilliant finisher. If Van Nistelrooy played Wengerball, he wouldnt have succeeded because he would have been perceived as lazy. Podolski is one of the best finishers in the game.. unfortunately his instagram affinity makes it seem like he doesnt care.
Awesome finisher just not suited for the wing.
...oh I'm sure you'd summon the words....
That is an ironic thing to be saying about a German international who has played for Inter, Bayern and Arsenal. He never forged a career as the main man at any of those clubs but nobody has suggested he should be playing 60 games a season for Arsenal or Inter.
My suggestion was simply that when desperately chasing a game running away from you in which scoring is paramount, you kind of want a player to be there to put a boot through the ball and into the net.....and you don't want him to need several tries of doing that to get it in. Podolski is quite capable of doing that.....something you probably know to be true which is why you made the point that "good finishing" is only 10% of what makes a forward.
He's a good player and was played in his best position, he just doesn't have enough to his game to warrant his place in the squad.
