Depressingly, with a decent defensive coach like Steve Clarke, I could see Clichy pushing on and fulfilling his potential. He has become pretty stale over the past couple of seasons with us.

Clichy isn't great but 5 million, after they just paid 20 for a kid .... jog on

If we don't replace Clichy with someone with a bit of experience, preferably Prem, and preferably called Leighton, I don't think there'll be a gooner around who wouldn't want Wenger gone.

On the 9th June, Blackburn Rovers accepted a 9m pound offer for Samba from English side Arsenal.

Samba's wikipedia page has this down.... sorry i cba to link, got it off twitter.

If we get samba then I would be happy for now

Samba is an utter beast but dunno if he's any good technically. If we sign him and preferably Vertonghen, Clichy can go cos both he and Vermaelen can play LB properly without several brainfarts throughout the season.

In regards to comparing Jones with Bartley, Jones is already playing at a very high level in PL, Bartley has never played in PL before. Jones is way ahead in terms of his development, way way ahead of him and right now is a miles better player than Bartley.

Of course it's not the end of the world that we didn't get Jones but let's not pretend we have youth as good as him in Central Defence.

He's doing alright at a mid-table club, impressive for his age, but it's a big punt for that kind of money, far more so than Rio.

Bartley has acquitted himself well in the SPL and Championship, lower level no doubt but his performances have been good and he's shown decent potential however it was more as an illustration that for all Jones has done we have guys and there are other guys out there that aren't so far behind him in terms of development and even experience; I'm willing to concede that may have been a rash comparison to make but it's the way I see it.

@Ach Perspective, the same papers and people throwing out the hype for this guy were saying that Bentley was the new Bergkamp 5 years ago, nothing is certain so it's a big risk but then again it's probably just that I don't rate him as highly as others and are pissed off that we haven't bought Samba. :)
