They are in a way liberated by the fact that no one has any expectations of them. They still have a formidable team even without these players but like England very indifferent form of late, and add in the other factor that the French team are perennial squabblers (Gallas getting the hump with Nasri for sitting on his seat on the team coach)
Therefore anything beyond getting out of the group will be an achievement. Normally I’d have them as nailed on to be eliminated in the group stage but I just can’t see how they can fail to overcome Tunisia and Australia (even with the added incentive that I drew Tunisia in my office sweepstake)
If Saliba plays I want them to get knocked out as soon as possible a) because I want him back playing for Arsenal without injuries or exhaustion from being overplayed b) the deeper into the tournament they get the more the vultures will circle
