Giroud isn't a super-star, he's not going to win you a league. But he's a great option to have.

No-one is rewriting anything. Giroud's goals/games ratio is loads better than Lacazette.
He's no Aguero, but he wasn't anywhere near as bad as many Arsenal fans said he was.
105 goals in 253 games isn't going to win you titles, but he wasn't useless.
EDIT; 44 goals in 105 appearances for France too. Only Henry and Platini have scored more for France.
That must be why he has spent the last 3 years at Chelsea warming the bench and scored fewer goals than Lacazette this season

He was rubbish is a mantra that you made up yourself just now. His problem is he never could score enough goals to carry a team. Thats what most people were saying. We said similar things about every striker since RVP and later Sanchez. Those 2 carried the club on their backs until they left. Giroud has the unenviable record of going to a WC, playing literally every game and not scoring a single goal.
