Utd are pretty much set up as 3 banks of defenders. Rashford and Alexis making no effort to get in the box when Utd are going forward.

To my mind it was a pen but shouldn'tbe a red. Why?. For the same reason as they shouldnt be sending keepers off for diving at the players feet. Not every tackle in the box should be a pen nor a red. If the player is genuinely fouled then yes, but the penalty box is not a no contact zone. The same tackles that are blown off in other areas of the pitch should be waved away in the box too. Now players only have to feel a slight touch in the box and they go down like sniper felled.
You should be allowed to tackle in the box otherwise defenders might as well just allow players to have a free ride once they get in the box.

Jones was trying to toe the ball away from Hazard. He failed, so a pen. Not a red as well.

Well let's wait and see how things are interpreted next time Xhaka goes in for a challenge like that. I think we can make an educated and experienced guess.
