cazorla as a wide player?

After watching our team start so well this season particularly with the midfield trio of Arteta,Diaby and Carzola giving the right balance needed to provide for the front 3, it looked liked we had the most feared midfield in the league, but since Diaby has been injured the teams balance and creativity has stagnated, his unique qualities are definitely missed. With Wilshere back the team has the energy it lacked, however Carzola has been smothered by the opposition far too easily. So when and if Diaby returns to full fitness say mid November I believe he should play in Carzola's position in front of Jack with Carzola playing right wing, Podolski on the left with Giroud through the middle, or even Walcott playing central if you have enough creative players around. A front 5 of that calibre would dominate most teams in the league and create enough chances to score aplenty. Our team would have discipline-Arteta, determination-Wilshere, drive-Diaby, speed- Walcott/Podolski, creativity-Carzola, and aerial threat- Giroud. What are your thoughts?

Would unbalance the side, IMO.

He comes out to the left quite a bit to find space, but I still think the trio of Arteta / Cazorla / Jack is the right combination. What worries me more, is that we don't have a direct replacement for Cazorla.

Spanish midgets are always used best through the centre.

and as we all saw that injury coming - apart from mr clevercloggs - i guess we know where the blame lies.

Idealy, you'd want Jack a fit Diaby and Santi all in the Middle, with Mikel behind them protecting the back 4.

Diaby will never be fit so why do we even consider him as an option? Would be a better idea to sign a decent player that will be fit.

We need a tippy-tappy player out wide, but someone who tracks back. Wenger has spoken of the need for a midfielder (not forward, like Podolski and Walcott) to play wide. So he's trying Ramsey and he's getting battered. I thought Wilshere might play right-midfield but it seems he has the CM role locked down. The only player that could fit the bill is Oxlade. Huge questions about his defensive input but that's something he's going to have to pick up.

no, we're had too many central midfielders that have been stuck out on the wing only to neuter their game and lose a lot of what makes them tick. we just have to look at the difference in performance from rosicky last season for that.

If we have all our midfielders fit (:haha:), it wouldn't be a bad option, especially against 10-man defences where some guile would come in useful. Cazorla has played for Malaga/Villareal there and for Spain too, so it's not alien to him and would certainly not be a case of Wenger playing a player in a 'wrong' position. He's playing more in a wrong position now. In the big games, having players like Wilshere, Diaby, Cazorla and Rosicky in the same team allows us to dominate the midfield too (like Ramsey allowed us to against Man City).

Arteta/Wilshere/Cazorla is obviously the most gifted and trusted midfield. But Diaby, Rosicky (when fit), Oxlade-Chamberlain, Coquelin and even Ramsey on a good day are players who should theoretically give us options. Wenger's inflexibility is one of the things he's criticised most for, so if he did decide to rotate some players on the basis of what challenge the opposition is posing, it wouldn't be a bad thing.

The reason the 4-5-1/4-3-3 has failed us so badly is cos we put players in unnatural positions.

As WW says, if we actually bought players who suit the system then it will be a success.

The whole reason we moved to the formation in the first place was to bring out the best in Cesc to the detriment of the team. He has long since died yet we kept it and it brought out the best in RVC but again it wasnt the best for the team.

Both have died now

Time to go back to 4-4-2, the formation we had our greatest success with

this formation will be the death of that c*nt

when was the last time we altered our tactics based on opposition? he plays 4-3-3 no matter who we play, kettering town or barcelona. you dont win football matches like that.

in boxing we say 'styles make fights'. its applicable to football and many other sports. if you play 4-3-3 every week you'll eventually meet your match. in our case it seems to be every other week.

His greatest weakness that. Not having the tactical know how to change things up when needed. Its something that has lasted his whole time here. First half of his time here, we got away with it cos we had quality players and they could get us out of tricky games with a draw or a tight win cos we were that damn good tbh

Players now are a bit shit so the manager comes in to play a bit more and hes been found wanting.

If you look back to the 07/08 season , that team dominated every team in the league without RVP before Eduardo broke his ankle. The only true wingers we had then was Hleb, Rosicky played on the right. At this current moment if we utilise our possession skilled players with their respective creative abilities we can start to dominate most teams.in the league without fuss, atm our current system we struggle against even the weakest midfield, we've yet to play Cazorla wide so I don't see why we can't play him there and definitely no stranger there. In 07/08 Denilson and Flamini played behind Cesc. On balance Diaby, Wilshere and Arteta would be a better midfield, the 07/08 team played longer together without being disrupted by any injuries. So if we put out a team come Dec with all players fit we can seriously put fear into other teams. Whether we stay injury free remains to be seen.
