Sweet fuck all - if we don't replace Arteta & Giroud.
67% of us being top 4
What kind of model is that? We have been top 4 for how many consecutive seasons now? And somehow this model reckons there's only 67% chance of that outcome? Not only that, but there has to be a huge amount of subjective weighting in that model. Suspensions, injuries, ref decisions, fixture fatigue, extra matches from cup runs. So there should be a higher reliance on established fact, such as the fact we are always top 4. Also we have strengthened, so there's an even higher probability of a top 4 spot. That model is statistics gone bad.
A better model than the British big Phil.

Most have had us down for 5th for many years now.
You get the feeling there will be huge jolly up amongst the haters the day we finish outside the top 4.
We haven't finished outside the top 4 since 95-96 under Rioch.
Trouble is with the sports media in this country so full of ex-players and managers that bias is sure to creep in. Ex-Pool and Spuds pundits are among the worst culprits, some of them are absolutely gagging for Arsenal to do badly.
Every year they hope that this year is the year.
Tbf unlike previous years there's 5 teams that are utterly convinced they're finishing in the top 4. Someone will be in for a nasty surprise.
And on the top 4 talk, a lot of people mentioned they wouldn't mind Arsenal dropping out of the top 4 because we would never win the CL anyway and it doesn't help us in the transfer market because we only make UEFA Cup signings. Similar to us with the Ozil deal, this year Man Utd have seemingly been chasing any big name worthy of a £40m+ deal and haven't quite landed one yet. Top 4 isn't everything, and I wasn't sold on its importance either, but I think now we're seeing it is crucial to progress.

Liverpool will lose out. Simply cos they will continue to play Gerrard every game when logic states that he cant and shouldn t. The gap between 5th and 6th (Spuds/ Everton) will be at least 10 points and by the end of the year the media will be back on the Harry for Engurlund campaign after QPR finish 10th
Gerrard actually played very well in his deeper role, though he does need two runners either side of him. Was surprisingly disciplined when he was a booking away too... though that suspension would have been pretty useful against Chelsea. I won't lie though, I was shocked at him [and by extension us as a team] doing so well with him in that role. I was convinced it wouldn't work.
I don't know if he will play every week though. IIRC the sounds coming from the club are that he will be "managed". He'll play the vast majority obviously, but having Can, Lallana, Allen, Lucas (for now), Henderson and even the likes of Sterling and Coutinho means there is quite a lot of room for rotation.
Anyway, because I can.

McNumpty
Looks like we've been roundly written off by all and sundry again - 4th place seems to be the best we can hope for, according to the "experts". Might as well give up now, tbf - save ourselves the aggro...
Having re-read it Mac, it doesn't read as stupid as the cold prediction sounds. He's basically saying you and Liverpool will be the ones fighting for 4th place and has just decided to fall down on the side of Liverpool sneaking it. I think that's wrong, but I can see why people would say that.
Yep, the satisfaction the media got out of our title collapse last season tells us all we need to know about how we are viewed.
Also what is it with the EX-Liverpool players/pundits, always taking a pop at us telling anybody that will listen that we are not a true "top 4 club" blah blah blah....

A lot of optimism on here..... I can't be arsed to think through my list though.
Borini's list suggest not too many think we will finish 5th which is unusual in itself...
