Agree with this. The best possible statement of intent would be to go there and win, put us on the front foot and them on the back. We should be eager for these big games and totally confident of getting the win. That's if we're really going for a challenge next season.
However - TV would never permit it, they aren't going to spunk one of their potentially top money-spinners on the opening day. So I suspect it will be Villa, Sunderland or Newcastle away.
I hope we do have Chelsea, Man U, Man C, Pool and Spuds away in the first half of the season.
Its where you finish not where you after 20 games.
I hope Norwich have similar as well.
The fact is that there is no form at the beginning of the season, if we bring in the players we need to challenge for the title you will want a few easy games to help gel the team rather than pushing them in at the deep end at Stamford Bridge and watching them drown.
Ideally you want a few a few mid table sides for the first three games and then a title rival (preferably at home).
Then maybe in September/October you want a run against top sides to build momentum....in the unbeaten season we played Man United, Newcastle, Liverpool and Chelsea (the other teams that made up the top five) in a small period only interrupted by the international break.
Swansea at home is my guess.
It's nearly time.
Arsenal v 'Ammers. Dull.
Man Utd v Tottenham.
Stoke v Liverpool
West Brom v Man City
The rest are a bit shit.
Our first six:
'Ammers H
Palace A
Liverpool H
Newcastle A
Stoke H
Chelsea A.
:sarcy:
Chelsea have Man City (a) second game of the season.
Pretty good first eight fixtures, like I wanted play two top sides at home and one top side away from home....not a baptism of fire, but the kind of games to build momentum with.
Decent first few fixtures, hope we have key players available though.
Stoke, Arsenal, Man Utd, Everton, Spurs, Chelsea and Manchester City - Liverpool's first seven away games. :haha:
With the Europa League too, they are a bit knackered.
Sky are already hyping up the 'huge games'.
It's June FFS!
Doesn't look like we have a death run at least, games against the top sides come sandwiched with matches against the pub teams.
I saw City away is our final game?
We beat them last year...
West Ham - Bilic will have the Hammers as a well drilled unit and will have them gelled after the Europa league early fixtures, narrow 2-1 home win
Palace - Can see them looking to carry on their good form from last season, quite open at home...3-1 away win
Liverpool - Good record against Rodgers Liverpool at Emirates another 2-1 home win
Newcastle - Take the lead but pegged back, first dropped points of season 1-1
Stoke - Always beat them at the Emirates see no reason why this will be different 2-0
Chelsea - Due a result at Stamford Bridge, if Costa isn't fit Chelsea may struggle for goals 0-0
Leicester - Hard fought 1-0 win
Man United - First open encounter of the season, 3-2 win at the death

FFS, why do we always get Spuds away in the 2nd half of the season? Fucking hate those games
WWWWWWWW
Aston Villa is our final game, City away is the penultimate game. Hope we have the league wrapped up by then as I really don't want to be needing to get points at the Ethiad or on the final day to secure the league.
Decent start though. We really need 6 or 7 wins in the first eight to start of well. Even though the Mourinho vs Wenger thing is annoying, I'd happily play for a draw at the Bridge. Hopefully Alexis is back and ready by then in any case.
I meant penultimate
When you consider the last time we beat Chelsea or united in the league, it might be considered something to publish on DVD the next time we achieve it
Embarassing...
We rarely won there even back in the day (he says, maybe being proved wrong by minor things like facts).
Think I checked a while back though and even back in the day when we were a much better side than them and never lost to them we tended to draw at WHL more than win.

Thanks for the info. What a cracking game. Laughed myself to tears at the end of it. Spuds!!!!!!
Lauren, what a hero? Moody, morose SOB who never used to smile. Only black man I know who had no pace. but he was hard as nails, wouldnt let anyone get past him.
Miss those days
