Hardly any of our young players seem to have a position when they first come into the team, their starting point is always as a utility man. I understand the theory of learning some positional responsibility but in practice I’m not sure it’s that relevant. If Nelson is as talented as he’s thought to be, then he surely he should be played where that talent can flourish?
Why not? Isn't it normal for Wenger to do this sort of shit? Wenger claims he does this to slowly progress players to their ideal position. He has strikers "learn the ropes" (a euphemism for wasting their talent) on the wing, so why not stick a winger in defence for a laugh? We've always had winger/ wing-back/ full-back types who end up being mediocre jack-of-all-trade types rather than specialists. Like Clichy, Gibbs. There are rare talents who can handle it, like Cole, but I wonder if even he would have survived Wenger's latest techniques?Quote:
