I think the issue with the video is that it’s not something that looks like a one off, it looks like routine treatment. Horses are pretty hardy so I doubt it would have caused it more than slight discomfort but it’s definitely reacting in a fearful way and I’m not really big on animal abuse. So I think the opening ceremony is a bit rubbish to be honest, far inferior to the London one at any rate. The London one didn’t take itself too seriously but it was still a passionate embrace of Britain, where as the French seem to be doing a camp self-pastiche
