MOTD and the BBC site disagree somewhat, yes I saw the goal on MOTD and watched in horror as the Villa guy steamed past the German snail and scored.

Vermaelen's pass was bad, the snail should have done better though and a better defender would have.

You are right though, I do think Mertersacker is average and I agree with Dixon when he says this guy isn't the answer.
