That's not a sign of a top class centre half to me, so I'm not that worried about losing him. Mertersacker however has surprised me, slow and cumbersome looking but has been pretty solid for us on the whole.
i think vermaelen makes as many major mistakes as kos does, however with kos they are often own goals or missed clearances so are much more noticable whereas vermaelens mistakes are often giving away free kicks (like the chelsea game) that cost us but because there is a break in play between the mistake and free kick etc it gets less noticed compared to kos scoring own goals
