I don’t believe that but it does seem like the board made his position untenable.
I think he would have been sacked had he not walked.
The board clearly made it obvious to him that they were going to head in a different direction next season, essentially encouraging Wenger to make a decision before it being forced upon him. All the evidence points towards Wenger wanting to stay on but realising he was about to get the boot, so left on his own terms.
Gazidis deserves a lot of credit for this and moving the club in line with a modern day infrastructure.

We paid out his contract so yeah ..... it's pretty much clear that it wasn't his decision to leave.
