Yet so many teams use it. There are just as many flaws as with man-to-man.
They'e highlighted the problem on MOTD many times, if you're very disciplined you can get away with it but for us we more often than not don't really do our job at the back. At least with man to man you know your job.
It fits in with the narrative of English defending being above that sort of foreign nonsense. If you go man-to-man with many people moving about in the box, it would cause just as much havoc. And what happens if someone makes a run in to the box you can't account for?
