Oven engineer (is that a real thing in this age of PC?) arrives tomorrow. I stuck my head in the oven as advised and wrote down all the numbers I found. From those he was able to identify make and model and, once I'd described the problem, he seemed really confident about fixing it for an undisclosed fee. I'm sure that's standard in the oven repair industry and can't really see what could go wrong.
If all goes well I'll be back to cooking my oven chips tomorrow night. If I can afford them.

A stark warning about the dangers of extending the graph too far into the past. Whole narratives can be burned away if you don't pick your cutoff point fraudulentlyjudiciously.
But, never fear, if this upsets you, you can always go and read a BBC article about how we're all going to die and soon. To soothe your nerves.
