Sounds like building a stadium is their long term goal.
From what you've written it exposes Redknapp for what he is, a very limited manager who simulates success with short term, cash draining methods. Buy them cheap, do them up and milk the fleeting glory (or one trophy in your whole career to be precise). Do a runner when the house starts falling down. If Redknapp's 100% record is maintained then spurs are in for a tough few years ahead, picking up the pieces. And if the owner is more focused on the commercial side (in fairness to him and unlike out shitheads) to get his cash back in the long term then they could be mid-table for half a decade. Sad thing is people will equate a downturn to losing Redknapp rather than seeing it as yet another Arry hit and run operation. What was his plan if he had stayed? Chuck even more cash at it I suppose with backhanders built in. He had his chance and he blew it. In terms of the England job and now the job at spurs it looks like his dodgy dealings may have finally caught up with him too. It's a classic case of a toerag living it large until his luck runs out. He's far better suited to the lower levels of the game where he can claim success by finishing 4th bottom and avoiding the drop (or at least getting out before the drop hits). He's a media product, a myth, even the knobends at the FA could see it when they gave the job to boring Woy instead. At least Woy will treat the job with a bit of respect. Arry never would have, it would all have been about Arry as usual.

"All you can do is leave the club in a better shape than you found it..."
LOL - well that would be a first Arry.

This would be like the mesh that we did at the Emirates which is why the pitch does not cut up? I suppose you have to try and copy your superiors.SPURS PITCH RENEWAL CONTINUES: The pitch has now had all of its soil and sand base replaced and levelled out with laser guided machinery. Now a reinforced plastic mesh is being laid out (you can see one strip by the goal) to strengthen the grass when its is laid.
Maybe the thread should be titled "Old 'arry's Game" ??
It's better to burn out, than to fade away.
building a stadium is definently one of many long term goals they have, they've been going on about it for years. whether they can successfully integrate a stadium with on field success (which for them is champions league football) is another entirety in itself. as already mentioned, he is a short term manager who wants short term success; he brings in experienced players to do the job but he's so damn effective at it that it glosses over the cracks. coupled with the fact that the media love him, it bides him more time and sympathy when it does eventually go tits up. however that doesnt necessarily make him a bad manager because he's meeting the club criteria; he was told to get spurs into europe and he did, and the danger now with sacking redknapp is that other managers wont want the job. after all, they finished 4th twice in the past 3 seasons; if a manager who met the criteria still got sacked, why would anyone go there? there's too much pressure to perform with a hounding board breathing down your kneck constantly. dont forget levy has a track record of backstabbing managers (jol vs ramos) and isn't quite the honest human being he tries to portray himself as.
i think their ideal candidate would have been rodgers as he plays the expansive style of football the fans desire, but now he's gone to liverpool they're stuck with people like moyes or martinez. in terms of whether either are an upgrade on redknapp then personally i'd say no; for everything moyes has achieved at everton i think harry could probably have done the same and even got them to more cup finals, and as for martinez, well i dont really rate martinez highly enough as people already know.
the whole situation really was a case of catch 22 for levy; do they keep redknapp and go for short term success or should they get rid and bring in a new manager with long term vision? someone who catalyses their brand alongside a new stadium, and at the same time, builds a foundation for future success. it depends on what they want i guess and what they value most; short term stability or long term stability? in the short term, hanging onto redknapp was definetly the better option as i dont think many others could have done a better job, but in the long term i think they've made the right decision if they get the right manager in.
They'll probably get Moyes in and try to do a Wenger, keep the success going on the pitch without spending money which they'll instead divert to the stadium and commercial projects. Can Moyes do a Wenger? Maybe, but certainly not with the same amount of style and WUMery. When you see this shit exploding in spudland you have to admit there's a fair degree of stability at our club. It looked dicey at the start of last season but Wenger still pulled through in the end. For all his flaws he's done a job that somebody like Redknapp could only dream of. Arry is a minor league hack by comparison.
