My point is in our current system every vote for a candidate who doesn't win is, in effect, wasted. In the sense that it doesn't give you any representation. So while you can vote for a fringe party it is, IMO, a waste of a vote because there's no realistic chance of that candidate being elected. So my view is I might as well vote for one of the candidates who could realistically be elected. And in my area that only gives me 2 options. Others take a different view which is fine, each to their own. We have a pretty crappy system, under a different system I'd vote differently.

If people like myself didn't vote for who they believe in the Green party wouldn't have won a seat at the last election. Of course my vote counts.
If you believe you only voted for a local MP and that there are no wider issues attached then I have to tell you, you don't understand politics.
