It's voting for one of the options which has a realistic chance of representing me. Under PR I'd vote who I wanted and know that it counted for something. Under our current system it doesn't.

I don't get your point - even if you don't vote for the person who wins, that person still represents you in Parliament.

My point is in our current system every vote for a candidate who doesn't win is, in effect, wasted. In the sense that it doesn't give you any representation. So while you can vote for a fringe party it is, IMO, a waste of a vote because there's no realistic chance of that candidate being elected. So my view is I might as well vote for one of the candidates who could realistically be elected. And in my area that only gives me 2 options. Others take a different view which is fine, each to their own. We have a pretty crappy system, under a different system I'd vote differently.

That's not your fault, it's the system. But it's the only one we've got so until that changes (it won't) I'd rather vote in a way which has some chance of leading to representation which, in my constituency, leaves me with 2 realistic options. I'm not massively attached to any party and have voted differently in different elections. I have explained why I voted the way I did but I don't need to, it's a personal choice which we all have.

(apologies for the late reply, I couldn't get on here for a while. I thought they'd blocked me )
    Er no

If people like myself didn't vote for who they believe in the Green party wouldn't have won a seat at the last election. Of course my vote counts.

If you believe you only voted for a local MP and that there are no wider issues attached then I have to tell you, you don't understand politics.

Our database server, thanks for asking.
Up and down more than an 'ores draws.

I'm making a right bloody mess of what I'm trying to do today but it's not helped by the fact that 80% of the time I try to test my changes it doesn't connect to the database server.
