Trump
Biden
The thing I’m least looking forward to over the next four years will be the media obsessiveness on silly things
For example, no one believes Elon Musk did a Nazi salute. Why has it gained so much coverage? The only slight bit of relevance is that it confirms that the worlds richest man is a weird socially awkward guy who needs to knock off the ketamine and at least try to get six hours of sleep a night. What was far stranger to me was how he moved about on stage in such a stilted way, he looked like a Gerry Anderson puppet
This is the kind of banal stuff that’s fit for discussion on here, not to be focused on by CNN, BBC News etc
I always think calling Trump a dictator or a wannabe dictator is uncharitable to dictators. The actual work they do in order to keep themselves in power would be admirable if it wasn’t so corrupt and monstrous. Trump is the product of a childhood where he wasn’t hit enough or told No enough. Fascism for example is to create an expansionist military society, for Mussolini who coined the term it was about recreating the Roman Empire (which was unfortunate as Fascist Italy became a puppet state for the Nazis), take away silly things like Greenland and Trump’s philosophy is far more isolationist and not wanting to get involved in what he regards as foreign wars
Trump comes from the business world where he isn’t restrained by checks and balances, and he’s too ignorant to understand the checks and balances put out by the constitutional and that his executive orders have as much authority as all office Memos.
Anyone who seeks Power usually seeks it for a Purpose, Trump it’s because he needs to feel powerful
He doesn't have the ability to do it of course. I just mean that yes, as you say he just wants to be powerful. And I think he'd ideally like to be in charge for as long as he wants to be without any of this election nonsense. And as you say he's constantly frustrated by the checks and balances and would like those to be removed if he could.
But Im pretty sure that’s probably true of most politicians to an extent, the only real difference is whilst some of them try workarounds of said checks and balances…they ultimately accept why they are in place.
I’m also not sure Trump wouldn’t want elections, for someone who desperately craves affirmation what better than a popularity contest. Plus The reason why Trump tried to overturn the election was less about having to give up power, it was about having to accept he had lost
