Why not make a super obvious signing like Nedum Onuoha currently on the verge of going to QPR. Young versatile defender can play CB or RB, A replacement for the God awful Squillaci, who would be glad to come and wouldnt mind the bench time. Plus he`s english (sort of)

Super obvious maybe, super quality no. I think if we can find some super quality signings then of course we should be interested, but otherwise we have a big squad and talented players and why should we spend money of we don't get someone better than Chamakh or Squillaci?

Nedum onuoha is better than squillaci, better than Djourou. You cannot get someone like Cahill and expect him to stay on the bench. There is no super quality out there rotting away on somebodys bench. we need a player who can fill in when required without being a catalyst for emergency room admission spike whenever he plays. Anyways Wenger aint buying, just wishing

Onuoha would have been a decent shout for me too - should have signed him Jan 1st. And just as an aside...watching Morocco right now and looking at the effort Chamakh is putting in up front and thinking why he doesn't do the same when he wears an arsenal shirt. Still not any good tho.

But we already have Squillaci and Djourou here. Squillaci is an extremely efficient defender. He was a top player when he was playing in Europe and now he shows signs he has acclimatised very well to the English game, so I expect big things of him soon. We have very high quality defenders ahead of him but we can't ask him to go backwards by signing a new defender. The same with Djourou, he is only now hitting top form and there is much more to come from him. It would kill him to bring another player in and who is to say this player would be better? Djourou has been very unlucky with injuries but he seems to be recovering full fitness now and he will be super quality when he is 100% fit.

Galatasaray announced that they have begun talks with Basel over signing Xherdan Shaqiri.

The 20-year-old has already expressed his interested in joining the Super Lig outfit and the Turkish side confirmed to the stock exchange on Monday that they had entered into negotiations with their Swiss counterparts.

"The club have officially begun talks with the professional football player Xherdan Shaqiri and FC Basel," Galatasaray revealed in a statement.

"The public will be kept informed of developments."

Galatasaray president Unal Aysal claimed last week that the club had already bid just under €10 million [£8.3m] for the winger. However, it is believed that Basel are holding out for a figure closer to €15m [£12.5m] and they also reportedly told Galatasaray that other clubs were tracking the player.

Shaqiri has already been capped 17 times by Switzerland and is considered one of the country's most exciting young talents.

Witsel would be a good signing, strong CM with a decent scoring record, should have snapped him up before he went to Benfica for something stupid like 7-8 mil, which makes me think why would they sell?

Double the price the guys worth it as are afew others from Belgium, Vertognen (spelling?) - the striker who Chavs bought (spelling?), who we should have nabbed! He would have seen more action than he has thus far and would have given us a decent back up already.

Wigan striker Hugo Rodallega has confirmed he wants to leave the Premier League strugglers and is considering his options.

The Colombia international is out of contract with the Latics at the end of the season and will be available on a free transfer.

Manager Roberto Martinez has already said he would rather keep the 26-year-old and risk losing him for nothing in the summer than cash in on him this month.

Rodallega, who arrived at the DW Stadium from Mexican side Necaxa for £4.5million in 2009, says he does not intend to stay at Wigan beyond the end of his deal.

"My contract at Wigan runs out at the end of May and I hope this situation gets resolved - but I can already say these are my last three months with Wigan," he told Caracol Radio.

The frontman says he is in talks with a number of sides but has refused to name them "out of respect for Wigan", currently rock-bottom of the table.

The Czech Republic international has only started five league games for Arsenal this season and is out of contract in the summer.

"I am now going to have a meeting with Arsen Wenger but won't comment on anything before that. I don't like to give any prognosis to the press.

CSKA Moscow have confirmed Lazio are still in negotiations with the club over a deal for Japanese playmaker Keisuke Honda.
Honda joined the Russian side in January 2010 for a fee believed to be around €6million.
He was named Most Valuable Player at last year's AFC Asian Cup, as Japan sealed their fourth title.
CSKA's President Yevgeny Giner told Radio Mayak: "I can confirm that some Lazio (http://topics.skysports.com/lazio/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif officials came to Moscow to discuss a deal for Honda.
"The negotiations are still on going as we have not reached an agreement.

"I would not say the transfer will defiantly happen, but let's see what will happen in the coming days."

Sky Sports understands Queens Park Rangers are amongst a number of clubs monitoring Clint Dempsey's situation at Fulham.

The USA international has emerged as one of the Premier League's top performers this season, with a hat-trick against Newcastle at the weekend his second of the campaign.

Dempsey is the top flight's most prolific midfielder having troubled the scoresheet 15 times already and is not short of admirers.

With 18 months of his current contract to run at Craven Cottage and as yet no talks of extension having been mooted, several suitors have been alerted.

At the head of the queue are QPR, with Mark Hughes well aware of Dempsey's capabilities having managed the 28-year-old during his own stint in charge of the Cottagers.

Martin Jol would be loath to lose a player widely credited to be Fulham's best this season but it remains to be seen whether QPR will test his resolve between now and the close of the transfer window

Yoann Gourcuff's agent has rubbished claims the France international could be set for a move in the January transfer window.

Attacking midfielder Gourcuff has been a long-time target of Arsenal and his mixed form at Lyon prompted further speculation the player would be heading for pastures new.

But agent Jean-Pierre Bernes denied there would be any activity this month.

"We talked about that," Bernes told France Football. "It would be nonsense to leave.

"I can't see any benefit to finding a new club three months before Euro [2012]!"

The 25-year-old Gourcuff is in his second season at Lyon, having previously played for Bordeaux and AC Milan.

Tevez's fines add up to 9.3M apparently

Carlos Tevez's refusal to return to Manchester City will cost the Argentine striker a staggering £9.3 million in fines and withdrawn loyalty payments.

Meanwhile, City's chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak also warned Tevez that he will be forced to stay at City for the next two-and-a-half years unless the club receive an offer they believe reflects his market value - believed to be above €30 million.

After the club hit Tevez with their enormous fines, the chairman launched an amazing personal attack on the club's costliest superstar, warning him, effectively, that he goes on City's terms or not at all in this transfer window.

He said in an interview with The National in Abu Dhabi: "Carlos remains a player with contractual obligations to Manchester City for the next two-and-a half seasons. Unless we receive an offer that we deem appropriate, the terms of his contract will be enforced.

"Inter Milan and Paris St Germain approached discussions with us in good faith and it is always a positive experience to deal with people with a professional approach. As things stand AC Milan isn't an option for Carlos Tevez.

"Mr. Galliani and his advisors have developed a misplaced sense of confidence from their premature discussions with Carlos and his advisors. If they want to be a consideration in this transfer window they would do better to stop congratulating one another and begin to look at how they would meet our terms."

ESPNsoccernet can disclose that Tevez has been found guilty by a 'secret' City tribunal and fined a total of £2.9 million, with the club upholding the decision on appeal just days ago.

This is how the latest fines are broken down....

• £1.2 million for a six week maximum fine under the current rules, plus a two month fine totalling £1.7 million for refusing to return from Argentina.

• Added to his first two week fine (which was reduced to the two weeks by the PFA after he was originally fined four weeks wages) the fines now total £3.3 million for the player who earns a basic £198,000-a-week.

• In addition Manchester City will withhold £6 million worth of loyalty payments due to him under the terms of his contract. Quite clearly, City do not believe Tevez warrants loyalty payments for such indiscipline and going on strike for two months!

The latest disciplinary action against Tevez dates back to December 22, with City finding their €30 million valued striker guilty of a charge of gross misconduct for going AWOL since November 7.

Since that time City have been paying him, and continue to do so, but Tevez had until January 7 to lodge an appeal, which he duly did, and it went to a formal appeal to the City Board of Directors on January 11. The appeal was thrown out and the six week fine, and docking of two months' pay was upheld. Tevez now has until the end of the month to take the appeal to the Premier League, which no doubt he will do.

The Tevez camp were quick to react, insisting the striker has never been motivated by the financial aspect of his career.

"Carlos has said many times before that money has never been a motivation,'' said a spokesman for the player. "We reached an agreement with Manchester City in terms of his wages and he returned to Argentina and nothing has changed on that front. Now all Carlos wants to do is get back to playing football again.''

No, but he'd have more of a chance of passing to our goalscorer than certain starters we are tolerating right now.

No panic. It's win - win if you think it through. If, by some miracle, we qualify in 4th then we get the CL money for another year. If we don't then we can sell RvP to cover the shortfall. Everything is under control, apart from the whining, ungrateful but regrettably necessary fans.

Talks between Galatasaray and Basel over the transfer of Xherdan Shaqiri have broken down due to a difference in the two club's valuation of the 20-year-old.

The Swiss international has been linked with a host of clubs, but admitted that he was tempted by a move to the Telekom Arena due to the prospect of working with Fatih Terim.

However, talks between the two clubs have broken down, the Istanbul outfit confirmed to the stick exchange.

"Negotiations with the professional footballer Xherdan Shaqiri which began on January 23 have come to an end, and we have not agreed terms with the player, or his club," the statement read.

Meanwhile, Galatasaray vice-president Ali Durust has attributed the transfer breaking down to financial reasons.

"Basel wanted a transfer fee that we would not accept and as a result, the negotiations have come to an end."

Galatasaray continue their bid to reclaim their Super Lig crown on Wednesday evening as they entertain Ankaragucu.

FC Dallas winger Brek Shea has revealed that despite impressing during a short-term training stint with Arsenal over the winter, the club have yet to indicate whether they are open to a move in the future.

Shea, who is already one of the most highly rated American players at just 21, spent a couple of weeks with the Premier League side at the request of his US national team coach Jurgen Klinsmann, who has capped Shea in each of the nine games he has managed.

"We didn't really talk about that," the wideman told Goal.com. "They were just trying to get me better [right now].

"It definitely showed me what it takes to play at the next level," he said. "The experience helped me a lot about certain situations [on the field] and I learned from it."

The youngster is reportedly keen on a move to Europe, and whilst national boss Klinsmann believes the player still has room to improve, he does not think it will be long before Shea switches across the Atlantic.

"What he needs is consistency and he needs is to work 24/7 on what he's doing," Klinsmann said. "What he needs to do is improve on many levels, but he has a lot of talent and that is why European clubs are looking at him."

Klinsmann is a big fan of having his players training with the top teams, whether they're located in Europe or South America.

"You need to move out of your comfort zone, you need to move out of your environment. That's the way you learn," the German said. "So if you go to England or you go to Germany or Brazil to train, the key is that you are getting out there and getting experiences."

Czech Republic international Tomas Rosicky will not be leaving Arsenal during the January transfer window, his agent has confirmed.
Pavel Paska, who represents the Gunners midfielder, met with Arsene Wenger (http://topics.skysports.com/Arsene+Wenger/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif to discuss the future of his client at the Emirates Stadium.
Rosicky's (http://topics.skysports.com/Tomas+Rosicky/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif current deal is due to expire in the summer and he has recently been linked with moves to Fulham, (http://topics.skysports.com/fulham/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif Olympiakos, Galatasaray and Wolfsburg (http://topics.skysports.com/wolfsburg/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif before the window closes on Tuesday night.
Paska has claimed that Arsenal (http://topics.skysports.com/arsenal/?section=football)http://static.lingospot.com/spot/image/spacer.gif are considering offering Rosicky an extension to his current terms in North London, and that a decision on his future will be reached next month.
Ideas"It was a good discussion, like it always is with Mr Wenger," Paska told Czech news agency CTK.
"We have outlined our ideas and Arsenal their ideas. We have exchanged some pieces of information and agreed on making the final decision on 15th February.
"Everything is wide open. Naturally, I have talked with Tomas and know his wishes, but until the next talks with Arsenal we will not reveal our cards.
"I would not like to speculate (on Rosicky's future) but people at Arsenal have hinted that they would be interested in Tomas carrying on there.
"But we will have to wait and see till the middle of February how things unfold."

CHRIS SAMBA has told relegation-threatened Blackburn: 'Force me to stay and I'll never be able to give 100 percent to you again'.

Skipper Samba has demanded a transfer and is locked in a stand-off with owners Venky's, who refuse to sell him.

In an explosive SunSport interview, Samba said: "When a couple don't get on they get a divorce — and that's what me and Blackburn have to do."

Both Spurs and QPR have been linked with £7million moves for the 6ft 4in Congolese centre-back, 27, who arrived from Hertha Berlin for £400,000 in 2007.

Samba is now training with the reserves and does not want to be involved in the first team.

He added: "Blackburn need players who are 100 per cent for the club — and I'm not.

"The only way to solve this is for them to let me go. It will be very difficult for me to play for this team again.

"I'm at the end of the road here. I'm not going to change so, for their good and mine, they must sell me now.

Certainly bad for him to say that in public. Stupid for them to have refused to sell him when he wanted to move. If a player wants to leave and you can't convince him to stay, then the sooner you sell him and get him away from the club, the better. Borussia Dortmund striker Lucas Barrios is being courted by several Premier League clubs, Bild reports.

After an impressive first two seasons at Dortmund, the Paraguay international has struggled to make his mark in 2011-12, making just three starts for the Bundesliga champions in all competitions.

Barrios' situation has caught the attention of several clubs across Europe, and it is now reported that Premier League trio Arsenal, Manchester City and Sunderland are keeping tabs on the 27-year-old.

Quizzed on the reports, Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc said: "We do not comment on speculation".

It is believed that the Westfalenstadion outfit have put a price-tag of €10 million (£9m) on Barrios, who cost the club €4.2m (£3.6m) in 2009.

They should stick the cunt in the reserves and fine him every week. Of course the arseholes that run football have put a stop to player responsibility. The FA should have already fined Samba for saying what he said. If players want to sulk behind the scenes then nobody can stop that, but to come out and openly talk about under performing falls into the same realm as managers playing understrength sides and there's a fine for that so why not hit Samba too? Players all have it way, way too easy. Some of them need to be hit with a brick.

Would rather boost the team by selling Chamakh (or giving him away), (or paying somebody to take him), (or paying somebody to take him and paying him to leave), (or paying somebody to take him, paying him to leave and paying his agent a bung to persuade him to go)

Lille attacker Eden Hazard has hinted that he would be interested in a transfer to Paris Saint-Germain in the future. The Belgium international is continually being linked with a move away from his current club and is widely expected to leave the French champions at the end of the 2011-12 campaign.

Hazard has caught the attention of European giants such as Inter, Juventus, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester City, and PSG appear to be serious candidates to sign the winger as well.

"Of course, the interest from Paris is tempting. Paris Saint-Germain are a great club," Hazard was quoted as saying by Le Parisien.

"And especially with a coach like [Carlo] Ancelotti, that makes you even more keen. Only God know where I will be playing my football in 2012 though."

The 21-year-old has a contract with Lille until the summer of 2015.

What's wrong with what he says is it's the same thing every year and it never works, we never get players back on time and even when we do we're not that great a team.

He's been so delusional for 6 years it's untrue, his team are only good enough in that hollow head of his, every one ca see it's weaknesses and inadequacies. Moreover he's stupid if he thinks coming out with sh*t like this is a good thing, fans hate hearing his cr*p it seems he never learns that either, he gonna be severely disliked when he finally f*cks of, it's a shame because in the 1st part of his career with us he did a great job.

Valenciennes coach Daniel Sanchez remains hopeful of signing Arsenal teenager Ryo Miyaichi on loan for the rest of the season.

Miyaichi initially joined the Gunners 12 months ago before spending the second half of last season on loan at Dutch club Feyenoord.

The Japanese attacker was subsequently granted a work permit in the summer and he has made two substitute appearances in the Carling Cup for Arsenal this term.

Arsene Wenger revealed last month that he was weighing up whether to let the 19-year-old head out on loan again in order to build up his first-team experience.

A decision is still to be made, with Bolton Wanderers having been linked with a loan bid after Gunners midfielder Jack Wilshere previously benefited from a stint at the Reebok Stadium.

French side Valenciennes have held a long-standing interest in Miyaichi and Sanchez is waiting to see if a deal will be done before Tuesday's deadline.

Sanchez told the French media: "It will by Miyaichi or nothing."

Don't think he would, he's pretty much said next time he goes to the PL it'll be to stay...he'll have achieved everything he wants in all likelyness.

He's a great manager who's won loads of trophies and won the CL twice with clubs who haven't had a hope in years (if at all), he's proven domestically and in Europe, wherever he goes he delivers success and builds a resilient team who play for each, tactically he's also a genius.

Getting his team to beat the shit out of Barca is something I can get on board with.

Mourinho has got his team 7 points clear in the league against, for my money, the best team ever. Man for man, Real Madrid are not as good as Barcelona. To then be 7 points clear in the league has to show fantastic management by Mourinho or pathetic management by Pep...or maybe a mix. But probably fantastic management by Mourinho. He's obviously much more than a chequebook manager if, despite having an inferior squad, can win the league ahead of Barcelona.

There is more to being a fan than sitting on your arse counting trophies. And I can understand those who don't want Mourinho because they hate him and wouldn't like our club to be run by a prick. Wenger's a nice guy but we're still hated by the media and most sections of the public. Might as well give them a proper reason to hate us by having a cunt in charge who might just thrive under the 'us against the world' environment.

Both as bad as each other, only diffence is Jose cares about the short term and wenger cares about the long term. Jose wants to win now, where as wenger is patient and is happy to wait to win. Both moan when things don't go there way both blame Uefa when barca beat them or if they feel cheated. Both are bad losers but are passionate about thier beliefs.
