Legendary BBC Sport commentator John Motson: "I think Jelavic might be the biggest signing we see today if it comes off. Everton have been restricted by finances but, when they sold Billy (Bilyaletdinov), it gave David Moyes a bit of flexibility for the first time in a long while. This is a position that Everton have struggled with. They haven't been lucky with strikers. This could be a very telling transfer." UK web users can watch John's full interview at the top of this page.

The only business I'm hoping for is for this Arshavin move to go through.
The only business I'm hoping for is for this Arshavin move to go through.
Agreed. Would love it if someone took him off our hands. Also might mean that Ryo will get more chances. It doesn't matter that he might not be very good, but it's hard for anyone to be as bad as Arshavin is right now. Oxlade starting ahead of him and feeling isolated from the fans was probably the tipping point.
Marc Overmars
31-01-2012, 01:31 PM
Ryo could be off to Bolton on loan, could be a good move for him as it was for Jack a couple years ago.
Blood and thunder, bulldog spirit etc He has a lot to learn.
Was moving back from Bolton a good move for Jack, though? Look at him now. I will be devastated if doesn't reach his potential. Family member dying devastation. He was one of the best in the league already last season. What a waste of talent. He could've been one of the all time greats. He was that good. And now look at him. The new Tomas Rosicky. Fucking Arsenal injuries.

Seems like two decent strikers are on the move - Saha and Zamora. Although having checked, Saha has 1 goal in 18 league games and Zamora is very hit-and-miss (more miss) so I guess they're not really strikers that we should be looking at. Although at least they'd shoot. Very surprised about the Saha move (if it goes through). Ok, despite the poor season, we know he can finish but he's surely not top 4 quality.

18:06 GMT I've been inundated with Twitter messages from Arsenal supporters wanting their club to sign Lille trickster Eden Hazard, well, here's the reasoning behind the lack of transfer activity from their chief executive Ivan Gazidis.
“[Our model] does mean we can't afford to compete with oil money, and we can't afford to compete with super-wealthy individuals from Russia,” Gazidis told Fox.
“But I think the more important thing about our model is that it's sustainable.
“If we've learned anything from the world's economic crisis, it has to be that football clubs need to have responsibility - not just for today, but for their own futures - and our business model means that we can continue to do what we're doing forever.
“Our focus is always on young players, we've got a fantastic development system and still there are young players coming through consistently from our youth ranks and that'll continue to be the way Arsenal do things.”

rsčne Wenger believes new signing Thomas Eisfeld has all the attributes to be a success at Arsenal.
Eisfeld completed his move from Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday, signing a long-term contract at Emirates Stadium.
The young German has trained with his new team-mates and Wenger is confident he has the potential to be a hit in north London.
“He is a young prospect with good footballing talent,” the Frenchman told Arsenal Player.
“He has the good ingredients that could allow him to integrate into the quality of our team - the basics are technique, good movement and skill. We believe that he has a chance to develop well here.
“How much first-team football he has depends on him. Basically we planned to get him at the end of the season but we got him a bit earlier because he was at the end of his contract. We will use this period for adaptation.”

He becomes the latest in a series of players to make the switch from Borussia Dortmund to north London, following in the footsteps of Tomas Rosicky and Jens Lehmann.
This soundbite could replace fourth place as a crowning achievement.

True, even though he will be sold in a few years to Barca lol
You mean released to wonder the depths of footballing ladder like so many others before him.

actually think wenger has got this one right, lets face it, we wont win the league, so using the time to get a player settled and ready for next year is probs a good use of it. get this guy firing, ox firing, with jenkinson, yennaris etc all getting games then hopefully we have a much more balanced squad ready to step in whenever we need them next year. still would like a bigger signing but this guy is meant to be very good and is highly rated according to a lot of people, apparently dortmund fans are gutted as he was highly rated.

We've got the poor mans Gotze, now we need a Podolski version.
This is just a random punt. Might turn out well, might turn out to be a Bischoff. This isn't a measured signing for the future like Oxlade - you can spot them from a mile off...mainly because we pay decent money. All I know of this guy is from today - he had a very bad injury which set him back last year and he hasn't played a senior game for Dortmund.
To be fair to him, it's much more difficult getting into the Dortmund midfield as an ACM these days than it is getting into an Arsenal one.
We've signed the German.

Depends what the clubs aim is, if they are happy to settle for 5th, then its fine, we don't need major signings. if they want top 4 then they do. IMO they have wriiten off the season and in the summer will do business dependant on where we finish.

I didn't think it were possible but we've actually weakened ourselves on transfer deadline day. We've lost a 19 year old who showed talent and had first-team experience at Feyernord and gained another 19 year old whose only experience is at the U19 level because he had a career-threatening injury.
I think Miyaichi might well have been on the verge of getting ahead of Arshavin in the pecking order - which means were only a Walcott injury away from doubling our shirt sales in Japan.

Louis Saha's move to Tottenham will be a loan until the end of the season, with the option of another season on a permanent basis after that, depending on the 33-year-old's fitness. And Sebastien Bassong's move to Wolves depends on whether Spurs can bring in 34-year-old Ryan Nelsen on a free transfer from Blackburn. I'm not sure I understand that last bit - Nelsen is a decent defender but he has a whole load of injury problems.

Ryan Nelson to Spurs? :unsure:I swear Harry just buys for the sake of it. It wouldn't be a deadline day if he didn't do some sort of business. At least he buys players to try and strengthen his squad.
Wenger could learn a thing or two from him tbh.

If Wenger signed Ryan Nelson this place would go mental.

He has offloaded Bassong though, that's not strengthening. And he has got rid of Diaz and brought in Saha.
It can only be that he gets bonuses from it, it's just plain weird otherwise.

Irony at its bestIt's not ironic.
Doesnt matter if we think those players are shit.
Fact is he's added to his squad to have some kind of strength in depth.

He hasn't added to the squad though! That's the point as to why it's so odd.

Heard of this guy before then have you? Played regular top level football and won things with dortmund did he?
Must've cost us a fortune to land such a fantastic player.

Got to give him credit though, he did us again and we were all camped out here today begging for it. We're too easy.

Well it is because Ryan nelson is so injury prone its funny, so the fact you say he adds strengh to spurs is ironic.
Had they got samba you would have had a point.

He was 'experienced' at Everton but hasn't really done much. And of course, he is still injury prone, much like Nelsen.
