But that's only because he was booked for it, so they could hide behind that ridiculous "don't want to re-referee games". Not the case here.
Also, it's Suarez. Everyone hates Suarez.
I think 3 for violent conduct and an extra 2 for it being mental and not even his first offence.

I really have no sympathy for the guy. He’s an absolute cheat and I’m not just talking about the diving. That handball off the line moment against Ghana in the World Cup pissed me off to the core. Just blatant cheating and no remorse over it. I hate seeing that sort of thing in sport. We all know about the racism and now this biting shit. How stupid can a player get. I really don’t like him and have no sympathy. He brings it on himself. His fellow players have tried to back him and get the spotlight off and then he goes and bites another player. Who the fuck does that? I’ve never seen that in football before.
Cripps_orig
22-04-2013, 08:37 AM
Jermaine Defoe.
I don't think he's a cheat. He has an attitude to win by any means necessary. An attitude I would love our players to have. I for one think he is brilliant and whilst the biting thing is wrong, it's funny as fuck and he has single handedly kept up the entertainment level in this boring ass premiership season.

As a club fine it has nothing to do with Ivanovic. Any fine by the FA can bring him in to it. We'll have told him where the fine would go, I'm sure of that, he gets to say it was him to make him look a little bit sane. In any case it's an aside.
If we get a good offer for him I think we'll sell, but I hope we don't just accept any old offer just to get rid of him. He needs some sort of electro shock therapy though.

Never. He's the only world class player you've got and you'll never be able to attract a player as good as him.
Every player has his price. We get a stratospheric offer, he's off. And as good as he is, there comes a point where he drags the club through the mud one too many times. Amazingly we're probably not there yet. And there will come a point when he just becomes a liability.
I'm not saying we should sell him, just what I think could (and will eventually) happen. I've long since accepted he's a crazy bastard. A crazy bastard that sometimes crosses the line.
Marc Overmars

I don't think it's in Liverpool's best interests to sell him really. (unless it's to us. :coffee:)
Not being in Europe next season will probably affect the calibre of players you can bring in, and you'd really need some quality to replace a player of his ability.
He's an idiot but it's worth trying to sort him out in-house, because he's far too important.

Aye - but there are potential leg breaking tackles that don't get a fraction of the coverage. Don't get me wrong - I don't condone Suarez, but what I would like to see is every example of 'dangerous' play dealt with. Its not - yet something like Suarez's offence - which is childish rather than dangerous - is over-analysed, IMO.

A couple of weeks ago you were saying that the McManaman challenge was getting a lot more coverage than say the Eduardo one.
We aren't talking about dangerous play here, we're talking about violent conduct. And unquestionably it is. It's such a visceral act and there's no way something like that can be done accidentally or the old favourite 'without intent'. That's a big part of why bad challenges are routinely forgotten about say a couple of days after it and it's not like I agree with it because I have spent many a time lamenting how those incidents are represented but that'll be the reason for why it is getting 'more coverage'.
The skin wasn't designed to cope with getting a good chomp, I wouldn't say it's exactly dangerous but of course with something like that there is always the risk of infection. To Suarez, not just Ivanovic.

I was?
The only reason that Suarez's pathetic behaviour is getting max coverage is because its so unusual. I'm not saying he shouldn't be punished, I asking for a bit of reason. A leg breaking tackle is more serious, IMO than a bite. Maybe a bite is more despicable than a player who cares nothing for an ex-player's safety, but IMO both should be punished equally.

Yup.
Of course it's more serious but the leg being broken is also rare and thus citing it as a counterpoint is almost getting to a strawman. I agree that those challenges should have a stricter punishment though but usually those kind of challenges are given red cards and thus already carry a punishment. This wasn't seen.

I've got no hate for the guy. He was with us for 8 years and that was enough time to build a solid team and win some silverware. If we'd had spent some money on decent players when he was scoring like a mad man, we'd have lifted a trophy.
Can't ask a player to sacrifice his career and go without silverware for a club and manager that won't sacrifice a bit of money in aid of a title challenge.

Man City did something similar to Tevez and he came crawling back in the end. No top player will want to sit on the sidelines for a whole season, if Barca or Real had been interested he'd have gone there....had he been free I'm pretty sure they would have been.

Was reading the Red Cafe thread last night remembering what it was like to win something. Quite a few on there assume Wilshere will be arriving in due course. Some doubt it because they see Jack as committed to Arsenal. None mention the club itself as an obstacle, it's just assumed we'll sell these days. That's what we do, the rep is firmly established.
If Jack comes out in public and calls his teammates and manager ****s, and that he wants to go to Utd, then he'll go. There wouldn't be any way to stop it. Players have too much power.

The point is we have two billionaires at our place and neither of the ****s will dip in their wallet, not to splash like the chavs but just to repair the damage done over the last seasons. Yes RvP wanted to go, but might that have been different if he had seen those tight fisted bastards opening their wallet just a crack? We've been short 2-3 quality players for years. We could have won something with just a small amount of outward (rather than inward) investment. But they wouldn't do it. So it's true to say the player has power but our club has made the decision very easy for the players that have left.

On years past an offside goal or dodgy Rooney penalty might have made a big difference. This year Utd have walked it. There's nothing really to complain about, nobody else came close and if they weren't winning it against Villa they were winning it at our place so I'm pretty happy with those offside goals. Enough pain in this season already.

Pretty much. If I were RvP and had spent all season carrying a team, dragging them into the top 4, and then I spoke to the manager about his plans to push us on and wasn't impressed with what I heard then I'd probably think "sod this". Especially if I could have my pick of clubs to go to all of whom were waving massive cheques in front of me. I don't believe he just left for money, he could have gone to City and earned more than he does although at that level it makes next to no difference. IMO he left to join a club were interested in competing. Arsenal clearly aren't. You don't sell your captain and best player to the team who finished directly above you if you're serious about competing with them. The PL medal soon to be hanging round his neck rather vindicates his decision.

I think it's an agenda against Liverpool FC. I know every fan of every club will say it, but in this instance, I think Suarez and Liverpool have a case to feel aggrieved.
Why?
There was a precedent set by Jermaine Defoe biting Javier Mascherano in 2006. Martin Jol laughed it off as "comical" at the time. Pardew, the West Ham manager at the time, probably couldn't be bothered to comment.
Why is it that such an incident 7 years later (and let's face it, biting is biting. There isn't really much difference between the scenarios) is played out over and over again on a 24 hour sports TV channel? Is it just because of his reputation? In which case, it's still wrong to continue this 'trial by television' based on the aforementioned precedent.
They make it sound like he mauled him to death. It was just a nibble, didn't even draw blood.
Give him a fine and a slap and move on. There are far more important issues for the FA to deal with.

Defoe had been booked. Suarez has this on top of a million other incidents in his career including a biting offence which he received a seven game ban for in the Netherlands. Nothing to do with it being Liverpool, at all. It might have everything to do with him not being English but we know all that anyway.
He could always just not do stupid things, then there wouldn't be any coverage needed.

As much as the media reaction is a bit 'moral highground', shockingly the Daily Mail leading the charge and as much as I do think there is something of a crusade against Suarez dating back to the Ghana handball, as with any incident like this he's brought in on himself. And not for the first time. Downing Street wading in and feral children blaming him for being thuggish is ridiculous, that is definitely true.
He was doing quite well staying relatively out of the lime light, letting his football tell the story and there were signs at least some of the press was starting to turn. Not totally, but there were signs of praise and a desire to move on. Now with one stupid, ridiculous act he's undone all of that and it's going to be even harder, nay impossible, for him to recover any sort of reputation here. Even RAWKites are annoyed with him this time, which says a lot.
As far as I'm concerned he'll serve his punishment and that'll be that. But once again he owes the club and his teammates as once again he is going to be banned for a significant period of time and he can't keep on doing that because at some point our patience will run out. As for "oh well he's trying to force a move", it's a stupid way of doing it, and if it's a pre-planned attempt to leave then he obviously isn't. On the plus side, a break could do him good since he will most likely be playing yet another summer in the Confed Cup, and it will force us to try out some other options which may help us in the long run.
The rules with regards to retrospective action do need changing, but it's not the first time that's been said. And it won't be the last. Suarez' defence that Defoe got off with it won't stand up and he'll get a hefty ban.
Grebbo

Just ban him until end of season and be done with it. Bored of this already.
If you think a career with The Arsenal is a career wasted why bother supporting?
I support Arsenal, and despise Van Persie for the way he left; his weasel words and the way he has helped Manure win the title. But if you equate a wasted career for a world class player with not winning stuff, then its pretty obvious that he'd have wasted his career by staying with us. He had a better season with us last season than he has had this season - and look where we finished in all comps. Comparing 2013 Arsenal with Manure in terms of sheer desire and ability to win things is like comparing a Citroen with a Ferrari.

I think its Carragher who has introduced some sanity to this debate by listing some of the unsavoury incidents committed by previous Liverpool players - his own coin throwing; Jan Molby's jail term; Souness breaking that Dinamo Bucharest player's jaw on the pitch; Robbie Fowler's coke sniffing celebration...
The guy is a prick, but the hysteria in the press about this incident is IMO unbelievable...and as for the Prime Minister getting involved - well words fail me!

Of course it's unbelievable - it's in the mainstream media. This is what makes me laugh. We rely on the same guys for news on world events. Of course they have a totally different approach to journalism when it comes to "serious" stuff, right? WMD reports copied off the Internet and a million people dead? Yeah, this is a serious bunch of professionals at work. They could be digging deeply into the corruption and doping issues, but no, hold the back page for the kind of trivia that kills our brains and makes us stupid.
Also, Cameron is an epic sprawling saga of a ****.

10 games. :haha:
Hope we play Liverpool early on next season again.
Amazing. The FA fuck it up again. But anyway it's still very
10 game ban.
John terry was banned for four for being racist
3 games ban for snapping a guys leg off.
10 games for giving him a love bite.
Seems legit.

As a comparison, this two-footed stamp got a zero game ban.

10 games seems very very harsh. I thought it'd be about 4 -5 games. It was violent, but I've seen playings engage in actual fist fighting during games have less severe sentences.
I'm wondering whether it was extra because of his history of controversy? I mean if this was his only controversial incident in his playing career would he have received the same length of ban? I just can't see it - I think his history in particular doing the exact same thing at Ajax played a part here.
In any case this isn't going help RAWK get over their, "It's a conspiracy", "The FA hate us" mentality.

10 game ban? Suarez must have refused to suck their faggedy-arse dicks or something. Tough guys. Next they'll be chasing down Sepp Blatter for his overt, fuck you corruption. You can see the decrepit ****s puffing on their Havanas in between sucking rent boy cum off each other's chins - shocking, shocking, would never have happened in our millennia! Foreign chap isn't he? 10 games I think, anyone for Pimms and a spot of hamster packing?

The problem as ever with the FA (lets face it, this "independent" panel is anything but) is there is never any rhyme and rhythm with the punishments. The numbers are seemingly pulled out of thin air and based on a whim.
They need to sort out their procedures, sort out their ridiculous rules regarding retrospective punishment and then maybe people will have a bit more confidence in what they do. But they won't.

Didn't Paul Davis get 9 games for breaking Cockrill's jaw?
As Suibbles said, they just pull these numbers out of thin air, there's no rhyme or reason to it.

No this how it works.
A bite is 3 games
A punch is also 3 games
If the bite is prolongued however, you get 3 games for each second of the bite and then add 1 on top of that for the action itself.
If you punch someone and break something you get 3 times the punishment plus 1 on top for the action, but you also get credit for a good shot and thus take 1 away for accuracy.
Kungfu kicks are 8 months.
Jeez, it's not rocket science
On a serious note, Suarez is a pr*ck and who cares if he gets a big ban...he's always getting himself in trouble by doing dodgy things, barely a game goes by where he doesn't kick or elbow someone.
He's done it before and got a long ban and yet is too thick to realise that if he does it again another ban will come his way, got no sympathy for the guy.
Evra's arm joke the other day was great though

I don't think a 10 game ban is OTT tbh.
The last 4 games of this season are irrelevant as they mean nothing to Liverpool so for me they don't really count as much of a punishment to LFC. I suppose Suaraz missing out on the golden boot is a punishment but he was never going to win that anyway seeing as RVP is playing Arsenal next weekend.
So Suarez really only misses 5 games of competitive, meaningful matches at the beginning of next season.
That's fair enough.
Suarez is nuts. He's bitten a fellow player not once but twice. He's mental and needs to be punished.

Giroud got 3 games for doing nothing.
10 seems lenient tbf.
The fact that that we're talking about a massively incompetent and most likely even more massively corrupt organisation is the most upsetting thing for anyone with even the slightest hope football will ever become non-farcical again. If it ever was.

True. It's amazing they don't have it written in stone that 'biting is a x match ban'. Maybe in preparation for Suarez's comeback, they should write down a rule for stabbing someone in the eye and the other 7 million mental acts he's likely to do.
Suarez has to sort his life out. He's mentally deranged and if he keeps doing stupid stuff, keep banning him for long periods. How many times does he need to keep doing this sort of shit. Fucking idiot.

True, but the FA as always is in a mess. I know he has his detractors, but Arseblog's take on it today gets it right, IMO.

The FA couldn't have escaped any criticism for this and it's bringing up a bunch of stuff that happened before. It's like Wenger making a good substitution and then getting hammered because of the 30,000 shit ones he made in the last 15 years. Arseblog says that nobody can complain about the length of the ban, and that's exactly right. The focus should be on Suarez, not the FA who got it right this time. If Suarez and Liverpool feel it's unfair - here's an idea...don't bite someone. That might solve their problem.

I get the point that you are making, but the FA has got itself into a right mess with its rule on reviewing incidents that the ref has apparently seen. My opinion (and I understand if people feel otherwise) is that genuinely dangerous incidents are treated more leniently than stuff like this. In terms of Suarez's ban, I think the length of the ban is OTT, and that a 12 match ban, with 6 suspended would have been more appropriate.
The analogy with Wenger is wrong, because it is perfectly fair to look for consistency in any judicial process. Just like if you are judging a manager's performance over a period of time, it would be fair to look at both his good and bad substitute decisions.
