Jose Mourinho has left him out, substituted him and played him on the right wing but yesterday the Chelsea manager was finally explicit that Juan Mata, player of the year at the club for the last two seasons, is firmly behind Oscar in the pecking order as the team’s playmaker.

Chelsea’s new manager issued a detailed and passionate defence of his four-year plan for the club following two consecutive defeats, against Everton and Basel in the Champions League on Wednesday, saying that while “the project is beautiful”, the reality for his side was that “we had two very ugly results”.

Unfortunately for Mata, who played 64 games last season for his club, scoring 20 goals, there is not yet a part for him in that project. The 25-year-old has played just three games this season, only two of them starts, and is yet to complete a full 90 minutes. Mourinho said that he was unable to disclose all the reasons why the player had barely featured, although those reasons are football-related and not personal.

Mourinho said: “The reasons why, in this moment, he’s not playing so much, are things I can speak about with him but not with you. But he played against Everton from the start and you can analyse his performance. And he played against Basel, not like Demba Ba or John Obi Mikel coming in to rescue the game, but he came on when the team was winning 1-0 and had specific tasks to do.

“It’s part of a process with him, too. One option is to play with Ramires and Oscar on the wings, those two closing down each side, and Mata as a No 10 behind a striker. He can offer clever assists, clever passes, fantastic actions, because he has great talent. It’s another thing to adapt to the way we want to play.

“At this moment, Oscar is my No 10 [playmaker] and, if somebody tells me that Oscar has not been Chelsea’s best player this season, I’d have to disagree. These are football issues.”

Put simply, Mourinho said that he could not leave Oscar out “because he plays in that [No 10] position for the country with more talented players there than anywhere in the world”. Neither was he currently prepared to play Oscar wide, he said, in order to accommodate Mata in the centre. “I want to build with Oscar as my No 10. I want the other two players, on the wings, to adapt to that reality and learn how to do things they were not ready to do before.”

Mourinho’s stark analysis of Mata’s position followed a resolute pledge that he would not deviate from the course that he has plotted for Chelsea since he returned to the club in June, even if that meant a fair amount of pain along the way. Thus far, they have not won in four games and have made their worst start to a season in a decade.

“The situation is pure,” Mourinho said. “I don’t like the way Chelsea were playing in the last couple of years. The club doesn’t like it. We want to change. We have the players with the profile to change. We want to play a different style.”

He was not afraid to list what he did not like about Chelsea last season: elimination at the Champions League group stage, a third-place league finish, David Luiz playing in midfield, long balls to a “lonely striker”, Oscar tracking full-backs. He said, though, that this was not a criticism of his predecessor, Rafael Benitez. “Rafa had a different profile of job to me,” he said. “This is not a criticism; he did his job very well.” Instead, Mourinho assessed what he sees as the scale of his task as Chelsea go into a critical game at home to Fulham today. What about him pleading youthful immaturity against Basel despite fielding a team that averaged 27 years and eight months? Mourinho’s answer was that he had played “kids”, like Marco van Ginkel, in key influential positions, out of the way “at full-back”.

Asked whether it was too soon to talk about a “crisis”, Mourinho said: “Crisis of what? Syria? Ah, Chelsea. No, for me, no problems, no crisis. For me, it’s two bad results.” He said he had “never worked so hard in my life” as he was doing now.

The change in Mourinho from his previous time at Chelsea is significant. Last time he put much into cultivating the mystique of the ultra-capable, all-powerful modern coach. This time the back-story is already in place but the task in hand is more difficult – and as a result he is more given to explain his thinking in greater detail.

With Mourinho there will always be a cunning plan unfolding in the background but there is no doubt he is being more open. He conceded that there will be occasions when he will have to park the proverbial bus. “I went to Barcelona with Inter and, for 60 minutes, we played with 10 men,” he said. “If we needed to be there longer, we’d have played for another 60 minutes. But I don’t want my team to play like that.”

There is one Fulham player who will have split loyalties today: Jose junior, Mourinho’s 14-year-old son, and a goalkeeper at Fulham’s academy. “It was a decision that I took, I don’t want him in my club,” Mourinho said. “It was the best decision for him.”

Jose junior’s Fulham team, his proud father said, had just beaten their AIK Stockholm counterparts in a tournament in Madrid, although he wanted his son to be allowed to develop like any teenager. “Leave the kid in peace,” said Mourinho. “He’s just a kid who enjoys football.” There is, however, no such hiding place for his father. And he knows it.

I thought he said he was leaving Mata out because of injury and/or international duty?

Mourinho is doing exactly what he normally does at clubs although only this time he is doing it within a month of the season starting. I also don't understand that part of the club didn't like how they've been playing in the last couple of seasons? I assume they mean the league performance because I thought the style is what Abramovich wanted.

Jose Mourinho claimed he made '11 mistakes' in picking his Chelsea team after being left worried by his side's 2-0 defeat at Newcastle United.

Chelsea headed to St James' Park on the back of a nine-game unbeaten run in all competitions, but were undone by second-half goals from Yoan Gouffran and Loic Remy.

Though the Blues had dominated the first half, there was no cutting edge from the visitors and Mourinho was concerned after the game.

He said: "Of course, of course I am worried, and I read in previous years, it happened the same.

"They (Chelsea) were successful in cup competitions, they were not successful in the Premier League. They finished 20 points behind, they finished 15 points behind.

"They qualified for the Champions League because they won the Champions League, but they finished fifth or sixth in the league.

"Last year in December, they were not in the race for the title because they were already 20 points behind. This season, we have played five matches away in the Premier League - I know at difficult places to play difficult matches - but we have one victory and we have two defeats.

"Of course it concerns me."

Mourinho, who made nine changes from the midweek Capital One Cup victory over Arsenal, later admitted he had got it wrong.

Asked if he had made the right choices, he said: "No, I made 11 mistakes, 11 mistakes. I should have picked another 11 and not this one. I made 11 mistakes.

"It's the feeling I have. When my team plays so badly, it's the feeling I have.

"I'm exaggerating. Of course we had some guys with, I am not saying outstanding, but with some normal good performances, but the feeling is that I made 11 wrong choices."

‘Specialist in failure?’ Why Jose Mourinho isn’t even fit to zip up Arsene Wenger’s coat

There are different types of managers in the game. There are some who do it for the club and others who do it for personal glory.

The Arsene Wenger’s and Jose Mourinho’s of the world, both occupying opposite ends of the managerial spectrum.

Responding to Wenger’s comments about how the title was Chelsea’s to lose [by virtue of the fact that they are top of the table] and how other sides are afraid of failure [not an insult, although that's how it's been taken], Jose Mourinho reacted to what were non-personal comments with a personal attack.

He called Wenger a ‘specialist in failure’.

Let’s take a look at that shall we?

Wenger has more Premier League titles than Mourinho and four times as many FA Cups. We’re just talking English trophies here, so don’t annoy me with other clubs and what he won there. Wenger could have moved to Real Madrid, they wanted him long before they wanted Mourinho, and won just as much there. He didn’t. He stayed to build something bigger than his ego.

Wenger might not have won anything for the past eight years, but in that time he has built a stadium and revolutionised a club, securing it’s long-term future. Mourinho, on the other hand, has moved from club to club every couple of years, clubs where he was always guaranteed to have a large pile of cash to spend, building on teams assembled by others and soaking up the glory. Winning trophies that way is easy.

None of his trophies are gold in the way that Wenger’s is for winning the Premier League without losing a game. Not a single one.

For Mourinho it is all about instant gratification no matter what that costs – be it half a billion pounds, your dignity or your sanity having to watch his Chelsea side bore teams in to submission.

Wenger came to England and changed the entire game, from fitness to scouting, playing methods and eating habits. Wenger represents an ethos, a total way of being which is sustainable long after he has gone. Mourinho represents himself. End of story.

I will quite happily take a lifetime of no trophies under Wenger than have to endure five minutes of Mourinho, even if you told me it would guarantee a treble. There is a class and a dignity to Arsene that no club and their unlimited finances will ever be able to buy for Mourinho.

Luckily, thanks to the sacrifices that Wenger has made over the last eight years, when he could have went and sought personal glory at any of the numerous clubs who wanted him before Mourinho, I won’t have to wait a lifetime for Arsenal trophies.

They will come, that’s what the last eight years has been about for Arsenal, the trophies will come. As sure as Mourinho is a spiteful little troll, the Arsenal trophies will come.

Exactly right.

Let's not lose sight of the chav performance today. They were annihilated. Mourinho's antics will be designed to distract from the beating his team got. He'll say anything if it causes the media to look at him instead of the team. Hence his comments about the press. They'll all be out in force defending themselves and slaughtering Maureen rather than rightly slaughtering that display by his team. He does this well. Right up to the point he sprints across that line between gamesmanship and personal abuse. In a way he's the worst of all at these mind games bacause he can't control his mouth and he's always flapping it before critical signals have reached his brain.

Hilarious stuff for the special one. I love how incensed he is and claimed the media should be embarrassed. I think you should probably be a little coy too, after that special one....

It can be argued that this is one of the slightly poorer Barca sides in the last several years, but that isn't a huge statement considering the level they have been at. The defence is a merry go round and the mini widgets in midfield can't go on forever and the actual price they paid for Neymar seems to go up 20 million on a week by week basis.

“Just to say I will not wait for your questions. I'm so sorry about it. But in three or four points I can say everything I can say so I won't waste time with the questions you will ask me. We stick with four quick points because I will just say this whatever you asked.

“The first is to congratulate my players. They did everything they could, playing from the first minute to the last seconds, and deserved that. Sometimes we praise the players when we win. I think it's fair to praise my players after the defeat.

“Secondly, congratulations to Sunderland. It doesn't matter how, why or in which way they won, they won. They won three fantastic points. I think it's also fair to congratulate them.

“Third point, I want to congratulate again Mike Dean. I think his performance was unbelievable and I think when referees have unbelievable performances, I think it's fair that as managers we give them praise. So, fantastic performance. He came here with one objective. To make a fantastic performance. And he did that.

“And fourth, congratulations also to Mike Riley, the referees' boss. What they are doing through the whole season is fantastic, especially in the last couple of months, and in teams involved in the title race. Absolutely fantastic. I also congratulate Mr Riley.”

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has questioned Eden Hazard's commitment during matches

"When the comments come from a player like Eden it's normal because he's not the kind of player to sacrifice himself for the team," said Mourinho.

"He's not mentally ready to look to his left-back and leave his life for him."

Mourinho added: "Normally you get these kind of comments from players like him, from players that can't resolve a problem like we had in the first goal.

"If you see the first goal of Atletico you completely understand where the mistake was and why we conceded that goal."

Might aswell play another fullback up front then :haha:

Chelsea finally agree to sign Diego Costa in £32million transfer

They have been chasing him for months, and now Chelsea have apparently got their man after finally agreeing to sign Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid.

Costa, who scored against in the Blues in the Champions League this week, is Jose Mourinho’s number one transfer target – and it appears he’s landed him early.

According to reports in Spain, Chelsea have wrapped up the transfer after agreeing to meet the striker’s £32million buyout clause.

Costa has also accepted personal terms on a five-year contract, with the move set to be formally announced at the end of the season.

Costa will reportedly pocket about £200,000-a-week at Stamford Bridge, while Chelsea will hope to offset some of that expenditure by clearing out forwards such as Fernando Torres and Samuel Eto’o, both of whom are high earners.

We all laugh at Chelsea but they have by far out acheieved Arsenal for the past decade in terms of success and trophies, and their fans have for the best part see some of the best times football wise they could ever have imagined. Atleast they aspire to be champions and winners and will pay the going rate for a top player. So before we all mock our neighbours in West london lets take a look at how the money men and our manager have become so much richer and leaving the club with average players, no targets of winning the league or the champions league, just over charging 60K fans for to watch dire slow boring football with 4th place to look forward to each season. Now thats what I call a club in crisis, and i dont give a fuck about our financial riches, that means bollox to me ane each and every gooner fan around the globe. We have been mugged off for years with this clown managing our club with his shit signings and clueless tactics, whilist our major shareholder doesnt hardly even attend games, that says it all. If only i was 10 years old again I would change my colours to the blue of Chelsea, but that is impossible in adulthood.

We laugh at the chavs because they are a plaything for a russian gangster - nothing more. You give me a couple of billion quid and I can win all those trophies without getting out of bed. You take the trophies as read when you dump that much cash. Now you look at what else the chavs have achieved.

Massively inflating wage bills and doping up the transfer market - check

Having the biggest loud mouth, classless, nasty piece of shit manager in the game who accuses other managers of being voyeurs and failures and runs up conspiracy theories about the football authorities being against them in some organised manner - check

Playing the most boring negative football the world has seen - check

Buying up countless players and sending them out on loan to further unbalance the market and disadvantage the opposition - check

Having the most despicable club captain football has ever seen - check

Having a bunch of cheat players who dive and moan and play act and go in for leg breaking tackles and basically make the Uruguayans look saintly - check

I'm sure there's a lot more but one thing is for sure, anyone who wants to make this mob the poster club for football doesn't have any respect for football. A cuntish team of the highest order, not because of their success (which they simply bought) but because of their behaviour and attitude to the game.

As for Arsenal. Have to agree, the last lot of shareholders raped the club. The evidence is in on that count. The current lot? Well we have our own filthy gangster, so that's not good. And we still don't know the intentions of the main shareholder - probably to build the market value and cash out, handing it all to the russian mobster when he's done. Yes - we could turn into the next chav club if we aren't careful. If that happens then I guess comparisons with that joke club from west London would be appropriate. But as things stand today? There's no comparison to be made at all.

"I am going to tell you a little bit of history of my career. In 2010 I won everything with Inter. Scudetto, Coppa Italia and Champions League. After that, in the first season at Real Madrid I won the cup against the best team in the world. I finished second in the league to then best team in the world and lost the Champions League semi to the best team in the world.

"The next season I was champion against the best team in the world, champion with the record 100 points and record goals scored. We won that league. We lost the Champions League semi-final on penalties when two of the best penalty takers in football missed a penalty - Kaka and Cristiano Ronaldo.

"In the third season we won everything against the best team in the world - every match. We won the Super Cup, we lost the league, and we lost the Champions League semi-final by one goal. The fourth season, which is this one, and probably the first time I don't win a single a trophy - I go to Champions League semi-final, I fight for the title to the last moment. ‘If we pay to a 19-year-old boy what we were being asked for, for Luke Shaw, we are dead,’ said Chelsea’s manager. ‘We kill our stability with Financial Fair Play. We kill the stability in our dressing room.

‘Because when you pay that much to a 19-year-old kid — a good player, a fantastic player — the next day, me and (Chelsea director) Mrs Granovskaia and (technical director) Michael Emenalo get players knocking on our door and saying how is it possible that I play for this club 200 games and won this and that?

'How come a 19-year-old comes here and gets more money than I get? It would kill immediately our balance and we don’t allow that.

'Filipe Luis played for Brazil, won titles in Spain, won a European competition, played (in a) Champions League semi-final, this guy is much cheaper than an English young lad.

‘I don’t criticise the other clubs for paying it. But for my club, we can say it would be very negative.’

Diego Costa is on course to surpassing Dixie Dean's 86-year-old record for most goals in a top-flight season, having already scored seven goals in his first four games.

Looks like this will happen, unless for some reason he can't keep scoring at a rate of 7 every 4 games. So a big well done in advance - I thought that record would never be broken. Anyway, chavs on course to get 274 points and 399 goals this season if the media keeps hyping them at the current rate.
