So with Henry it wasn't the principle, it was the amount of cash. Did he resist our transfer efforts so vehemently because he knew the big Barca transfer was in the pipe? Did he need that extra year so Sanchez could sign a new contract and bump the fee? Whatever, for all his talk and criticism of smoking weed it turns out he's just another money grabber. This deal has gone through like it's on rails, Suarez chipping in himself with the biting incident. However, with Liverpool losing their best player abroad and us bringing in a player almost as good in Sanchez, we end up in an even better position than would have been the case had we signed Suarez last year, imo. Ozil on the books, Sanchez for £8mill less than we offered for Suarez, Liverpool weakened, us considerably strengthened. Whoever they end up buying won't be in the same league as Suarez. And the £8mill should go most of the way to bringing Remy here too. Not bad at all. All's well that ends well and Henry can stick that in his pipe and smoke it.
How long has this medical been going on for now - about 3 days?
They're just making sure he's a good a proper crock before we finalise things. Can never been too sure about these things.
We're hearing that Chile forward Alexis Sanchez has now passed his medical at Arsenal and the 25-year-old's switch from Barcelona to the Emirates should be confirmed very soon. Alexis is understood to have agreed a four-year deal and the fee will be around £32million, money that Barca will use to buy Luis Suarez from Liverpool.
So we've heard, £30 million, £35 million, 40 million Euros and now £32 million, which is it?

Well 40m Euros is £30m-£35m so we can assume it's in that region anyway.

This is a great signing (as and when it happens). Arsene has not fannied around this summer and that is fantastic news. Along with Debuchy, this is a strong signal of intent. Now if only we can get a quality holding midfielder to forever put Arteta in his shadows, then we are are going to be a massive threat! :scarf:

NQ so right Liverpool are fucked, good going from Wenget and the two dicks. Top top quality signing
Got Oz, got Sanchez, got Ramsey, got Kos, got BFG, got Ox .....Theo, Carzola. Quality slowly being restored to our club.
Sanchez is probably our only marquee signing, so let's go out there and get a supporting cast of good quality signings. DM, Bouch, Remy .....and keep Verm, job done!

Talk about bringing positivity back to the club! Could we have done this if we were still playing at Highbury? We'll bash out a 30m+ signing every year now, without having to sell anyone.
It feels like Wenger may have given himself a great chance to prove the critics wrong this season. When was the last time we could sit here in July and say to ourselves that our squad is looking good for the new season?

The brilliant thing is that it makes it easier to sign other top tier players as they'd be attracted to playing alongside the likes of Ozil and Sanchez. Absolutely brilliant and Wenger and the club deserve a lot of credit for acting decisively this summer compared to the past horror shows.

And it seems years of getting fleeced by Barca and Real for our best players is now paying off. We have a good working relationship with these guys.

Alexis Sanchez has made a big mistake by rejecting Liverpool to complete a move to Arsenal, according to Reds legend Phil Thompson.
Sanchez completed his £30million switch to the Gunners yesterday after previously turning down a move to Liverpool, who were keen to sign him.
But Thompson says the Chilean is making an error in choosing to move to the Emirates Stadium over Anfield.
‘Sanchez doesn’t know what he’s missing by not joining Liverpool,’ he told Sky Sports News.

I think he'll play wide left or right at first and he has shown that he can get goals from aither flank. When Giroud hits his seasonal dry patch, we can play Sanchez in the middle with Feo and Caz/Pod/Ow on the left.
Question is, will he play out wide or converted into a striker?
No idea what Wenger has planned. I hope he plays as the lone striker because although I like Giroud I can't take another season of him upfront. A bit of a livewire would be nice and gives Ozil some movement to work with.

Me neither. I wouldn't put it past Wenger pulling a RVP/Henry where he converts a wide player to centre forward. He's a worker for the team as well so he could be the right sort of player for the position.
But if we do that, I still worry about us lacking pace on the wing and a real trickster that can unlock a defence. Either way, it's the sort of problem I like to think about when going into a season. Ozil, Ramsey, Theo, Cazorla along with Sancez....woooo! (Ric Flair). I'm excited.

If Chamberlain can get through a long run in the team I'm confident he'd step up to be the guy with a bit of pace and trickery. In around Feb/March before he got injured he seemed our best player and looked ready to become more dominant. I'd leave a space for him in the line-up, think he'll make a Ramsey style step up. And obviously when Theo gets fit, he'll be there.
Options are good, might be able to get through 2 games a week without everyone ending up crippled.

Central midfield I reckon.Really?

Alexis Sanchez is a great buy for Arsenal but he's no Luis Suarez... Premier League can't attract (or keep) the best any more
He looks great, Alexis Sanchez. Not best-player-at the-World Cup great, obviously. Not Golden Ball great. Not Thomas Muller. Not Lionel Messi. Not Arjen Robben. Not even Luis Suarez, for all his problems. But great, yes. Premier League great.
He’ll do for us. And that is the disturbing message for English football from this World Cup. There is what we regard as great in the Premier League, and then there is the notch up.
Sanchez was outstanding for a Chilean team that must now be cursing its crisis of confidence in a penalty shootout with the hosts, having seen the best of Europe make mincemeat of a poor Brazilian team.
Yet Sanchez isn’t quite Suarez. The player departing the Premier League, no matter the circumstances, is in the top three or four footballers in the world right now. If Sanchez sat in that company, he would still be at Barcelona.
Sanchez is a good signing for Arsenal and a fine player, but he is also what the Premier League tends to attract these days: the level just below the very top. Ultimately, Cristiano Ronaldo left, as did Suarez, as did Robben, even Gareth Bale. Cesc Fabregas is back but only because his glorious return to Barcelona did not quite go as planned. That doesn’t make our domestic football bad: just not as impressive as it is cracked up to be.
There are three individual awards presented here, the Golden Ball (player of the tournament), Golden Glove (best goalkeeper) and Young Player. The various shortlists comprised 16 names and not one played his club football in the Premier League.
Some may consider this harsh. There was only one defender listed for the Golden Ball, Mats Hummels of Borussia Dortmund and Germany, and Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany certainly did not seem his inferior in his five games for Belgium.
Equally, Tim Howard of the United States and Everton has as much claim to the Golden Glove as Sergio Romero of Argentina and Monaco.
Yet, when it comes to the stellar talents — the forwards, the creatives — the Premier League lags behind. Eden Hazard, Oscar, even Robin van Persie after that initial stunning goal, where were they?
What stands out about the FIFA shortlists is not so much the domination of players based in Germany and Spain, but the smattering that had a look at the Premier League, shrugged, and went elsewhere. Robben, Paul Pogba, Javier Mascherano — even Manuel Neuer turned down Manchester United for Bayern Munich on leaving Schalke 04. James Rodriguez instantly rejected the prospect of leaving Monaco for an English club.
The Premier League was decently represented in the Maracana on Sunday night, as one would expect given the number of foreign players employed at English clubs; but the adopted Anglos were not the driving forces behind the success of Germany and Argentina.
Pablo Zabaleta has hit the level of consistency one would expect and Martin Demichelis continues to do much to correct negative first impressions with Manchester City.
Yet Per Mertesacker of Arsenal was dropped by Germany, and many consider his team-mate Mesut Ozil fortunate not to have suffered the same fate. Andre Schurrle has made a good impact here, but only from the substitutes’ bench, while injury once again hampered Sergio Aguero. Largely, it has been players from the Bundesliga and La Liga, even Ligue 1 in France, that have propelled these nations towards the tournament’s pinnacle.
Why does this matter? Well, a young English player that finds his path blocked by, say, Mascherano would be one thing; by Paulinho quite another.
This World Cup merely encourages the long-held belief that while Germany made a conscious effort to embrace the next generation of young talent, there are too many Premier League clubs and coaches taking an easy way out, importing when they could be developing.
Sanchez is without doubt the top end of this particular market and will add to the quality of the Premier League — yet, equally, the woeful Cameroon squad included seven players that had at some time been on the books at Premier League clubs.
We are kidding ourselves if we think our young talent hits an impasse at Messi or Ronaldo. The very best don’t want to play with us. Is it not time we tried to do it ourselves?

I like how journalists seem to think it's a new thing that the Premier League isn't the biggerest, bestest league ever.
It has never been the final destination for footballers apart from in their own deluded little heads. Suarez, Ronaldo, Henry, and Bale weren't world class players when they moved to the premier league - they became world class players while in the league and then moved to Real/Barca. Of course these idiots will forget it again until the next big player moves to La Liga.

according to AW:
"can play through the middle, he can play on both flanks and he has the qualities that I think are needed in England. He's brave, works hard and all these qualities together made me go for him.
“At the moment he might play on the flank because Walcott is injured. As well [he can play] through the middle in some games; we can play with Giroud, we can play without Giroud in a 4-4-2 or in a 4-3-3.
“That's why he is a major signing for us [and] that's why we spend a lot of money on him. He has the quality to be efficient everywhere he plays.

And that fuck awful pop shite blaring in your skull, every cunt nicks footage and then treats us to whatever fucked up shit he happens to like - as if normal people are going to like it too. And then it gets boring as fuck when you mute it. So off it goes.
So succinctly do you summarise the conundrum! I'm glad I'm not alone!
I usually trying to put the volume on really low or have something else playing at the same time.... not sure it really works but I get through about half of the video's people post on here.

The Daily Colostomy Bag has officially kicked off it's Alexis Sanchez Campaign in some style:
Alexis Sanchez ISN'T one of the Premier League's top five signings this summer
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2722599/Alexis-Sanchez-ISN-T-one-Premier-League-s-five-signings-summer.html
The staff, who ambitiously call themselves editors, have taken an Adrian Durham piece (who doesn't mention Alexis in the article) and added their own focus. Whether Alexis can trump Ozil as the "news" paper's main hate figure this coming season remains to be seen. Ozil managed to capture that prize almost immediately upon arrival at the wrong club. Alexis has his work cut out but early signs show he has the talent to make them seethe.

Fuck em'! Leave them to wind someone else up.

Eh? I would have thought it was obvious. To foster a hair trigger instinctive hatred of the media.
So, He's been dumped by 26,000 Sun dream team bosses, wow, that's hard-hitting news journalism at its best

That's why I always encourage people to install AdBlock Plus, which is a free and simple way to deprive the Daily Clown Shoe of revenue while upping their expenses. Also, Disconnect, helps deprive them of analytics. Obviously get tooled up before wading into their sewer.

Little bit top player, the sort of explosive forward we've needed for so long.
Best player we've had since Henry.
Best player in the PL right now.
Bit of a one man wrecking ball. Could end up being Bale and Suarez quality very quickly. A couple of others up their game and we've got a proper team. As it stands, even if everyone else keeps dying and playing shit, he can carry us to 3rd/4th on his own no question.

I think he's a touch below that level, but he's been superb and because of him we have an Arsenal player in the prem top 10-15 scorers! Seeing him leave players on their arses is never going to get old.
We have a real roster of quality attacking players so I hope we can start to build a little chemistry between them.

quality fighting (in the sense of trying to get the football rather than vinnie jonesing) player, just what we needed
also his presence will allow cover for other attacking options like welbeck and theo to develop

Sanchez is a beast, a world class player. Let him play where he wants and the rest can fight it out for a spot.

Think that he will enjoy having Theo in the team but we must get the ball to them quicker rather than the normal 200 passes between our defenders & midfield. Also slightly worried that Welbz & Giroud are not clever enough up top & could ruin a lot of the hard work created outside of them.

I agree. 180 passes max!

He is the piece we must build around - Welbeck top Theo and Sanchez on the wings.....last chance Ozil in the 10 would be formidable but Ozil needs to be motivated.....if that is a push too far then we may need to cash in and buy someone who wants to play

Well, when you see it like that and also consider he ran non-stop for every minute between each of the goals - what a player!
For once the old cliché is true, the complete footballer.

Found this interesting. The guy is one of life's winners by the look of it:
Sanchez earned £30.3m last year — his Barcelona and Arsenal earnings supplemented by various business ventures in his homeland, Chile, including property holdings, stock investments, Fat Sanchez Burger restaurant chain, the Tocopilla Angels football team and Pure Wondersanchez vodka.
It's not about talent, the effort levels on the pitch is the key to everything good that he does. Has the potential to be a replica of Suarez, footballing wise. The only edge Suarez has - that Henry and Bergkamp also had - is a bit of a nasty streak to unsettle defenders and knowing what you can get away with. If he starts snapping away at the heels of CBs he's a ballon d'or candidate.

Being able to score a variety of goals is what sets the best apart. Tap ins, volleys, combers, headers, they're all there. Then of course you have his ridiculous work ethic to go with that.
A worldie of a player.
