Supporters of every club in every sport think the same.

Because I lived in a boarding school, I actually live it rather then just thinking, when we were in the Cup Winners Cup Final for the 2nd time, everyone wants the other team to win, but whenever other English teams are playing, everyone is behind the English team.

That is true, but that article is no more than internet style trolling. You can kind of live with that from internet twats but someone who writes like that shouldn't be anywhere near a paper, even a local one.

Don't know whether that's a good or bad thing. His stock won't rise but at the same time makes it difficult for us to sign him as he shouldn't be able to pass a medical.

Arsenal have announced the players who will be released by the club this summer. Chuks Aneke, Zak Ansah, Nicklas Bendtner, Daniel Boateng, Zach Fagan, Park Chu Young and Leander Siemann have all been let go by the club.

Meanwhile Bacary Sagna and Lukasz Fabianski have been confirmed as receiving new offers to stay at the club.

Park has gone?

According to this (http://www.tsmplug.com/football/arsenal-players-salary-list-2014/) he was on £50K.

So that's about 33 months, say 140 weeks, which is £7mill and then the transfer fee on top which was between £3mill and £5mill, say the low cost all in is about £10mill then.

That's for 4 starts (none in the PL) and 3 sub appearances, for a total of 250 minutes according to this (http://www.espnfc.com/player/_/id/65421/park-chu-young?cc=5739).

He got 1 goal, in Oct 2011.

So that's £10mill a goal, 1 goal every 2.7 games, £40K per minute of game time, £3.6mill per game.

Is this the most expensive player of all time?

In Aug 2011, Park Chu-Young had looked set to sign for Lille, the French champions, but then his phone rang and Arsene Wenger was on the line. It was the worst call to answer since Colin Farrell picked up a New York public phone in Phone Booth...

yeah, I think the only time I saw him do anything like that in the vid was against Napoli at home, and against Southampton away when he skipped past a few players, shot, which then got deflected and hit the bar.

Reckon he will come good next season. as long as we keep the current squad together (Including Giroud) and add a couple of quality players. Ozil and Giroud seem to have a bit of understanding together.

This "news"paper without doubt has an agenda. The poll was open to ALL fans but apparently only Arsenal fans realised and it allowed us to vote up a "flop" who is stealing a living.

http://metro.co.uk/2014/05/28/mesut-ozil-wins-signing-of-season-after-arsenal-fans-hijack-premier-league-award-4743109/

Incidentally, according to Squawka who grade every player (probably by some dubious method but certainly in a more authoritative manner than the Metro chip wrapper and shit wiper), Lukaku ranked 60th out of all PL players, Bony was 63rd and Puncheon was 129th.

Ozil was 33rd.

Kos and Merts were 8th and 9th respectively, Kompany (the best defender in the world) was 44th.

And so this is why Arsenal fans had to "rig" the vote, because we our guys to be top in the virtual world as well as the real world.

PS. Milner was 198th and the £40mill David Luiz was 214th.

RAWK:

'City & Chelsea are going out and buying the finished article, and putting them straight in their teams. As stated further up, they can only expect to achieve diminishing returns on their investments.

We are close to them, with many young and raw players. The player types we pursue are not the finished article. Our returns are potentially greater, given that we are so close to our competitors. We have a higher ceiling. Our football is ahead of the curve, Chelsea's is archaic, Man City players know their game, they aren't going to adapt massively. We have a fantastic young coach who is redefining our football style. We will make leaps and bounds, providing we leave no stone unturned, and we make the right decisions.

In my mind, we are going to improve massively over the coming years, and by the time everyone realizes it it will be too fucking late.'

In many ways I think their deluded optimism actually does more good than harm. Their whole league charge after February was all built on positivity and belief when no-one else gave them a chance. They went into the big games thinking they were the dogs bollocks, went all out attack. Nearly worked.

They need to get rid of Gerrard before they can go anywhere, he's like a tombstone that anchors the whole team in two decades of mediocrity compared to what went before. Break that chain and they can start (not finish) the job of building a team. They should have done it 3 seasons ago.

A really brilliant idea to piss of one of the largest fanbases in the UK, featuring some of the most affluent people in the country who regularly pay top dollar to follow their club. Who would probably make up a large bulk of the BT Sports subscribers ....... and at the expense of unemployed penniless Scousers?

This is assuming it was a mistake and not some deliberate tactic (Head of marketing being a Spud or something like that).

If anyone's upset about that advert they need to get some perspective. I remember Sky did it a while back when they showed Arsenal getting ripped apart by 'invisible' Man Utd players. Think it was a goal from 2009 or one of the times Ronaldo scored a sweeping team move with Djourou, Song and Rosicky chasing shadows. Can't recall much fuss then.

I get BT Sports for 'free' with my internet package.

The HD element is an extra £3 per month. I'm not really that bothered about the HD, but couldn't be arsed to cancel it.

Then I saw this advert and thought, wtf, I've got fuck all else to do right now, so cancelled the HD.

Nice work BT.

Do you realise how RAWKish that sounds?

"We're not so different, you and I."

Would be Rawkish to launch a mass boycott of BTSports, write long threatening emails to their CEO, hound any employee associated with the company, spread numerous online petitions urging BTSports to apologise etc etc ..... but we're a long way from that. It's just been a few mentions on twitter and generally some disgruntled Arsenal fans online.

At any rate, I'm not questioning the legality or their right to air that ad, just the wisdom of it as a sensible marketing tool. Reliving that match is not something most Arsenal fans want to do, on the contrary most want to completely forget that humiliating horror show. Consequentially it gives a negative subliminal message and association of their product to Arsenal fans which can't be in their interests. And it doesn't make great business sense to alienate and annoy a large potential subscription base especially when said group are probably the richest in the country.

Me personally, well I was thinking of adding BT Sports to my sky package for next season but this combined with some of their other terrible stuff, including Michael Owen's commentary ....... probably will give it a miss and save my money.

Edit - Made it's way to the Metro now.

BT, Sky, most of the media - just arseholes looking for the next marketing angle, there's nothing meant by it. There's not even any thought that goes into it.

Now the Daily Mail, that's a completely different story. If fans want to boycott something boycott that cunt of a rag.

The BT sport marketing team thought they were being clever with that advert when they filmed it over the past couple of months. Thought Liverpool would push on in the summer and that we'd carry on being tight arses. Well they've sold Suarez and replaced him with Lambert while we've signed Sanchez. That advert will look ridiculous next season.

Zerlathon

I've never been a fan of BT, I find the majority of the people that are on the other end of the phone pretty moronic, and they lack communication between departments. So this advert doesn't really surprise me...

Not sure why they didn't stick to the tried & true method of showing the best goals of the season and a shot of the champions lifting the trophy at the end. Perhaps they wanted to do something a little different, but isolating & humiliating a large portion of the fans is never going to earn them any subscribers (at least from the fans of that particular team).

Hopefully our Players will take this as incentive to rip apart any and every team they come up against! I wonder if BT would then dedicate an advert to that.

On a side note, I don't think that it's just Arsenal, but the English media are possibly the most deprived bunch of fuck knuckles out there, and cling onto any "scandal" that they can get their greasy hands on. English Media reminds me of the twat of a kid in the playground who sees someone do something, then proceeds to tell the rest of the kids how bad it was so that they can isolate and bully them.

Edu suffers fan backlash after Arsenal kit tweet

Maurice Edu has suffered a fan backlash after posting a photo on twitter of his new Arsenal kit.

The United States of American international tweeted on his personal account; @MauriceEdu:

"Special delivery! New @arsenal kit thanks to @PUMA and @PUMAFootball!"

With a photo of his new shirt attached.

Edu, 28, who has only made one appearance for Stoke City, has been sent out on loan the past two seasons to Bursaspor and Philadelphia Union, where he currently is playing in the MLS has hit a nerve with many Stoke fans with his tweet.

@ross11094 tweeted:

"that's the worst thing you could have done! #SCFC #RyanShawcrossBarmyArmy!!!!"

Whilst ‏@james_king_88 tweeted:

"I hope @stokecity terminate your contract with immediate effect on the basis of that tweet. Tut tut! #moron #scfc #byebye"

The former Rangers midfielder signed on a free transfer for the Potters in 2012 after his release from Ibrox, and currently has a clause in his loan agreement with Philadelphia to make his deal permanent at any time.

If Wenger is asked he'll obviously condemn it, but medically speaking it doesn't make any difference to fitness levels over a 15 year career that footballers have. Jack seems a bit chavy but it doesn't affect me. If Wenger picks him - and regardless of who we've signed, he will - he's happy with him and I look forward to seeing him play.

The good news is that Theo might be closer to playing than initially thought. It'd be great if he's ready for the start of the season along with Sanchez. Gives us a chance to attack with pace from the go.

He has to condemn it in public but I don’t think Wenger wants controversy around the club and he’s warned Jack once about protecting his rep. You can see it in his first statement. Health implications aside, Jack shouldn’t have been caught smoking again, even if he’s a big time smoker.

We're going to court to challenge the limit on three concerts a year that can be hosted at the Emirates.

Good on the club I say. We need all the revenue we can generate to compete with the likes of the Petro clubs and Utd with their ridiculous commercial deals (£75 million a year from Addidas) and this is an easy way to go about doing this. Loan out one of our key assets (the stadium) when it's not in use.

And it's good to see that the executives have finally recongnised this:

During a public inquiry carried out by the inspector, Ken Friar, Arsenal's chief executive director, said the club needed money from the concerts to compete with its football rivals, citing the example of Manchester United's profits of £100 million compared to Arsenal's £20 million.

Islington council need to FOAD about this. Would bring more money, business and jobs to the local area to get tens of thousands of people flocking to the area.

As it's a council we're talking about, this should just be a case of ensuring the correct amount is in the brown envelope. It's quite expensive to buy these sponging wank stains at the moment because they're looking to cover off the huge pensions frauds they got caught out on.

We can compete with them now but choose not to.Spending 35m in each of the last 2 years when we have 100m in the bank is not chelsea's city's or utd's fault. That lies with our manager .And dont come back with we dont need any more players because we all know we need a striker ,a defensive midfielder and strength in depth when the injuries hit in jan/feb.

Exactly what I think as well. Slimy cunts at Islington council want there cut to pay for the bonuses of senior council leaders.

Noise level? Give me a break. The concerts are on a Saturday evening and usually end by 10 pm latest. No actual reason why our request should be denied and if anything if Islington council actually had the interests of the local community they would be pleading for more gigs to be hosted and more money to be brought into the area. Instead they're more concerned about their own greedy little pay packets.

No.

We can compete a lot better now thanks to the Puma and Emirates money and that's been reflected in the Ozil and Sanchez purchases but we still have a way to go to come close to the revenue levels that Madrid/Barca/United and Bayern achieve. And each of those clubs are continuing to increase theirs with massive bumper commercial deals (Adidas £75 million) that we can only look on enviously at right now.

Besides the "100 million in the bank" that's always trotted out has to include wages. World class players demand world class wages ..... you need to budget in total £70 million of Ozil if you include his 5 year contract. And given the fact that we don't have a sugar daddy to bail us out, it would be the height of stupidity to spend all our cash reserves in one go ......... we need to keep money behind in the case something goes wrong. We couldn't soak up a loss on the scale of Torres or Schvenckeo the same way the Chavs were able to through Roman pumping in more equity.

If we want to to continue to stay at the top of the chain and compete for the calibre of players like Ozil and Sanchez throughout the team it's imperative that we boost our revenues through any means possible and renting out the Emirates is a no brainer. It also may hopefully mean that club is less reliant on matchday income so season ticket prices can be frozen for a few years.

tl;dr version - They money is there but unlike certain other clubs, we have to spend it incredible wisely.

The premise of a big stadium generating money for the surrounding area is a criteria in which it is allowed and supported to be built in the first place so it is wholly reasonable and prudent that the club has taken this stance.

@ Gallactico...

Not that I disagree with you assertion that a given budget includes wages.....However, I can't help but feel that if a player is sold.... let's say for 10 million?

The budget is let's say 70 million? Most people add the 10 million to the budget from the player sale and then argue it is now, 80 million. They do not add 10 million to the budget and the wages saved over the remaining duration of his contract which might make the budget 90 million rather than 80.

It is not a major issue, but I do think that if any stated budget includes wages, then it should be updated accordingly when we bring in a fee from a transfer AND the wages saved. I know the wages saved perhaps becomes an intangible as it is money saved rather than physically made, but in the act of balancing I do find it a little peculiar.

As long as Arsenal fans keep getting upset over it, it'll keep bringing them ad revenues. But I admit, I don't normally think the media are out to get us but the dAily mail do seem to have a weird problem with Ozil. Supposedly there are a couple of spuds manning the Metro footie desk so that explains their shite. I think it's more the endless love affair with the north west when it comes to the Daily Haemorrhoid. When their darling Utd signed Failaini and we signed Ozil it looks to have pushed them over the brink. Really juvenile stuff like Utd turning down Ozil, Marketing dumping Ozil, blah, blah. They have run anti-Failaini and anti-Ozil campaigns ever since. Other media wanks expected Ozil to arrive and light up TBLITW(TM), good for them, more money for their shit. When that didn't happen and he had a merely extremely competent first season they got the hump and resorted to pretending Gerrard was excellent, which obviously made them look silly. They know it, but as you say it's not about credibility or self respect, it's about cash registers ringing. They're not alone in that ambition, whole world outside of proper art is neck deep in that shit. They did it again with their Best World Cup ever bullshit. And Neymar.

Works both ways. Obviously don't respond on their site, that's a big win for them. But always, always be pointing out to everyone you come into contact with just how shit the Daily Fail is. Generally, not just on football. The wider that message spreads the more it takes root. Eventually people just assume their rag is shite, whether it is or not, and there's not a damn thing they can do about it. The public is driven by mass perception and word of mouth is an even bigger weapon than a printing press. I've done my bit anyway, slagging them at least twice a day.

This is true. But more pertinently, Adams is spurting out senile bollocks as usual. Ozil has nothing to do with Wilshere. They're completely different players.

There's nothing wrong with pointing out Jack's inconsistent form. The giddy vehemence to do so at every opportunity no matter the relevance by every two-bit numbskull resembles every other lazy narrative that we despair at. See: Ozil stealing a living, Mertesacker having no pace, Wenger not seeing it ha ha ha, Arsenal don't like it up em.

They'd built up Wilshere into a glorious composite of players that England have never actually had, then as soon as his form dipped (never mind his two years of recurring injuries at an extremely early phase of his career) he became literally worse than Michael Brown and Karl Henry put together.

One of the main stories this morning centres around ACTUAL attendance figures. I think it was pretty clear last season that Arsenal weren’t always filling their pretty stadium.

TICKETS WERE SOLD

For sure, they were. But the gaps around the ground are pretty apparent.

Here are the stats from A is for Arsenal.

* on average the actual attendance was 5,998 lower than that stated by the Club
* on average 6,550 seats were empty per game
* the worst attended match was Fenerbahce at 44,779, which was 15,559 lower than capacity and 11,492 below the official attendance
* the best attended game was Liverpool in the league at 57,341
* the real average attendance was 53,788 compared to 59,786 announced by the Club
* a total of 173,945 seats went unoccupied at home games last season

When you break it down to an average number of games lost per season ticket holder, it's not actually that bad - less than 3 games missed per person per season, which probably isn't unreasonable given the likelihood of other commitments / illness / travel problems / etc throughout the footballing year? However, it's still a hell of a lot of tickets that could potentially be going on general sale to other fans who aren't lucky enough to have a season ticket. Surely there's an easy fix here somewhere?

No Anthony Taylor to hand the opposition pelanties, man advantages and goals this year.

Think it was something that started off for charity but has of course since been hijacked by social media.
