I think it’s partly psychological with Brazil

Since the 1980s they’ve gone more for being hard to beat than free flowing.

The 1994 side I loved Romario and Bebeto but they were mainly tough to beat, and the Three R’s in 2002 had a bit of a fortunate draw

I think making predictions is proving to be a mug’s game. You’d probably say the winner of tonight’s quarter final between France and England would go all the way. But could not rule out Portugal or Argentina


Argentina will likely get to the final (but couldn’t guarantee that…you’d think Croatia would be dead as a result of two matches going to penalties) , I think England or France could beat them but Argentina could equally prevail on their day. No side for me has really stood out all the way through the tournament. The French have looked amazing in spells but equally when examining squad depth, their second team was taken apart by Tunisia. Argentina can clearly be got at proved by their opening defeat to Saudi Arabia and the Netherlands pegging them back. England? Well England have played well at times, have been atrocious at others.

I don’t think we will see a new team winning it, which then states it will be one of England, France or Argentina. But i can’t say for definite Portugal couldn’t win.

In terms of England tournament disappointments this ranks pretty low. With the exception of the USA game we played as well as anyone throughout.

I think we should have a pretty solid future with the likes of Saka, Foden and Bellingham at the core of it.

Tonight with a bit of luck things could have been different but the margins are fine and unfortunately we cannot seem to break through this glass ceiling when it comes to elite opponents. On to the next one I guess. :shrug:

In terms of England tournament disappointments this ranks pretty low. With the exception of the USA game we played as well as anyone throughout.

I think we should have a pretty solid future with the likes of Saka, Foden and Bellingham at the core of it.

Tonight with a bit of luck things could have been different but the margins are fine and unfortunately we cannot seem to break through this glass ceiling when it comes to elite opponents. On to the next one I guess. :shrug:


Yeah we played ok in fairness, I think ultimately as many of us suspected it would the defence let us down and they were more clinical than we were in punishing it…although arguably we could have had a hat trick of penalties but then you have to actually score them.
