Arsenal now just a nursery club for the big boys
I NEVER thought I would say this, but Arsenal are now a nursery club for footballs big boys a sickening kick in the old marble halls.
Cesc Fabregas saying his long-awaited goodbye on his way home to Barcelona just confirms what I have seen coming for some time.
The Gunners are now goners when it comes to being part of the games rich set.
All of the great years they had with Dennis Bergkamp, Thierry Henry, Patrick Vieira and Emmanuel Petit have long gone.
It was a club people wanted to play for now its a club that gets raided for its best players.
I am a huge fan of their style and what Arsene Wenger has done for the place I love the Emirates as a stadium.
But now Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea have moved to another level. And in Europe you have Barcelona, Real Madrid, the Milan clubs and even Paris St Germain coming up and leaving them behind.
Fallen
Put simply, Arsenal are not members of that smaller and smaller group of clubs that can win things both domestically or in the Champions League.
The best teams around have the money and they have also got their eyes on Arsenals {players its not the other way round anymore.
It is now a breeding ground for the rich and famous to come along and take their pick.
And the gap is getting bigger year after year.
In the Premier League, they have been in the {driving seat and fallen away they only went close last time {because others slipped up.
Arsenal are now in the group that hangs on. It is the way it is going and it will only get worse. Whos the next to go? And who can you {attract if thats your status in the game?
Samir Nasri is on his way, even Robin van Persie must be {looking and wondering. They have bought Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, but is that to bring him through and sell him?
I think they are now a club that cant attract the top earners like their rivals. They HAVE to sign them and {develop them. And you did not see that {happening years ago.
When Arsenal were great they had a team with older players, {average ages in the 29 to 30 bracket.
Since those days they have gone for younger blood and have still got talent, but no trophies.
Fabregas has been one of the best Premier League midfielders and he is {leaving without a full {trophy cabinet.
I dont care what Wenger says in public, in private he must be frustrated. He knows how hard it will be to find the right players.
This is going to be a hard year for him. He needs to come out and say if he has the {money if they can pay the wages. They say they have, but with Fabregas leaving you have to wonder.
Its not even that great a move for Fabregas. I can see him being on the bench more often than not with Barcas {midfield a big change for him from Arsenal where he was the King of Spain.
So maybe nobody wins. But the long-term result is definite Arsenal have lost their place in footballs food chain and wont get it back in a hurry.
We all know what the goal of the club is and that's to finish in the top 4. We're not in any shape to challenge for let alone win the league and expectations should be in line with that. Yesterday was a good point for us.
If you believe that then why all the hate towards AW?
Linked with Jadson again

Shakhtar Donetsk head coach Mircea Lucescu claims Arsenal want their Brazil international playmaker Jadson.
The Gunners have been tipped to move for the 27-year-old with midfielders Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri expected to leave.
Jadson's name was mentioned to Arsene Wenger recently, but he stated the club was not in talks with Shakhtar for his services.
However, the Ukraine outfit now claim the Gunners are interested and that a move now depends on the Brazilian himself.
"I can confirm Jadson is wanted by Arsenal," said Lucescu. "Now it all depends on him."
.
Well, I think it has been fairly well proven that we need another playmaker, I'd be skeptical of a short fella who's been hiding out in the Ukraine for a few years but he looks to have talent so...
he wouldnt have to acclimatise too much, as im sure the ukraine league would be as physical as the prem
Jadson is just Wenger's way of carrying on regardless, a supposed replacement for the heart of our tippy-tapping nonsense football. If we sign him (which I doubt we will, I doubt we'll sign anyone else now), it will be Wenger sticking his two fingers up at everyone and instructing more of the same. There's no way we should be looking outside the PL for reinforcements. We can't afford any more bedding-in or acclimatising, we can't afford sudden discoveries of foreign DNA in our key players' blood. Why can't we learn our bloody lessons and take the steps necessary to stabilise the ship?
...and why, if Nasri and Fabregas are going for the best part of £50M, are we scratching around in the bargain basement, FFS???! Is Wenger so arrogant and bloody minded that the remote prospect of proving everything wrong by producing a world class player when noone expects it has become more important than stopping the rot that is infecting our team?
Some of the Brazilians that have found their way to Russia and Ukraine are quite good, I've always wanted to see a couple over here. Not going to pretend I know anything about Jadson because I don't but if that's who Cesc's replacement will be then so be it, we're not going to buy Sneijder or anyone like him so there you go.
Why not?
Wages saved
Nasri - 90k
Cesc - 100k
50m in the bank minus agent fees
Pay out for Sneijder - 190k a week + 30m to Inter.
I doubt we have that much money available for one player.
Ideally, and I've said all along, if (and when) Fabregas goes, I'd like to see a proper marquee signing to make up for it. But if Jadson is what we get, so be it. He looks pretty damn good anyway, so instead of moaning my nips off, I'll just get behind him and support the new signing.
Nothing against Wenger signing Jadson. He has experience in Europe, he's Brazilian, can shoot and I trust Wenger with these type of signings. A UEFA Cup winner and Shakhtar did okay in the Champs League.
i would love us to sign one or two BIG names like Snejnder and Tevez. Just to show a statement of intent :(
Got no problem with Jadson, seems to be creative and he's Brazilian which usually (although not always as we've seen with Denilson) means skill and flair.
We do need to re-invest significantly though, won't be happy to see us pocket the cash again as we always seem to.
Jadson has a better goal scoring record than Fabregas and Nasri too.
I'll pass on Jadson, 27 and still playing in Ukraine and has barely got a game for the least creative Brasilian sides in all of our lifetimes.
Get someone else please
Straight answer - a player knocking around in the Ukranian league is far more likely than not to be some way away from being able to adapt immediately to the Premiership. Why? Simply because a) I'm willing to bet that the style/pace of the game is very different to the EPL. b) Fitness levels are likely to be very different. c) He will hardly be likely to be used to playing against top players. In other words - yet another developmental player - who fits the failed AW mould.
have a fgo at me for moaning, by all means, but please don't pretend that a player from the Ukranian league is the best prospect that we have for our team. And i am not even a serial moaner. i am just sick of selling off the family silver in return for an alchemy kit that is as likely to fail as not.
He has European experience at least. Arshavin came from the Russian league and he's fine, it's just his fitness and Wenger playing him on the wings that's the problem.
Questioning the Ukraine leagues quality is a bit of insult considering these guys beat us, topped our CL group and won the UEFA Cup. We should be more worried about Wenger's ability to get the guy settled and adjusted. If we don't think he's the right player for us then that is cool, but forget all that talk about him not being able to adjust because he's from another league. That says more about Wenger's coaching ability if anything.
Agree. The ukranian teams play a very high tempo games and is physical as well. This is not to say that he will not take time to adapt, but in my opinion would be a good buy. It will be great if we can add Martin and a one of Cahill or Jagielka . From what i have seen martin's a cross between Iniesta and Cesc fast, great close control, trickery vision and passing has the potential to be better than Cesc, which means him coming here is tough.
for real. the guy has also played for brazil a few times not so? shaktar as a team were excellent over the last two seasons especially for a team without a lot of 'brand name' players on their side. every player is a gamble but i feel that this guy just might be the little piece that gets us really ticking over. if we can couple some offensive power with some defensive stability (pray that kos and verms keep steady) then i think we can have a good season.

So, looks like Nasri may also be gone today as well.Quote:
Arsene Wenger is convinced that the £12m purchase of Jadson, a Brazilian midfielder in the Cesc Fabregas mould, will enable Arsenal to build from their summer wreckage, as Manchester City hold out hope that £22m Samir Nasri could be their player in time to field him against Swansea City on Monday night.
Jadson, a tough, compact, 27-year-old attacking midfielder, revealed his capacity for goals in this summer's Copa America, though his arrival from Shakhtar Donetsk as a replacement for Fabregas – who is likely to follow Nasri out of the Emirates next week – will do little to lift the spirits of Arsenal supporters.
The Independent understands that manager Wenger was powerless to hold on to Nasri after a board meeting eight days ago at which principal shareholder Stan Kroenke insisted that it would be folly to sacrifice City's money and see the Frenchman leave as a free agent next summer. Wenger did not put up a fight and City hope to announce the signing of the player imminently.
City must lodge the transfer documents with the Premier League by midday today if they are to field the 24-year-old against the newly promoted Welsh side.
Confirmation is expected today of Nasri's five-year City deal, under which Nasri will earn around £165,000 a week – almost double the £90,000-a-week new deal he was offered to stay in north London.
With Fabregas likely to be on the way to Barcelona for a fee of €34m (£29.8m) paid up front and up to €6m in add-ons, Shakhtar's representatives were in London yesterday to discuss the sale of Jadson.
Though he is the best of the clutch of Brazilians at the Ukrainian club, a £12m deal would make them a £9m profit on the sum paid to Brazilian club side Atletico-PR in 2005. Jadson's spectacular goal against Paraguay for Brazil in the Copa America revealed his goal-scoring prowess and he is likely to be deployed in an advanced role in front of Jack Wilshere and Alex Song in the Arsenal midfield.
Few will see Jadson as a like-for-like replacement for Fabregas, despite his physical similarities to the Spaniard, and at 27 he is not the next big thing in Brazil. But Jadson arrives with the advantage of being ready to launch straight into the season, having been heavily involved in the Ukrainian campaign, which is well under way. He said yesterday: "If everything goes to plan, I'll have some news for everyone at the start of next week. Hope it works out."
City have been reluctant to discuss their moves for Nasri. The club are highly sensitive about the image of them using their wealth to take players without the customary diplomacy towards the clubs they are taking them from.
The City manager Roberto Mancini's public discussion of the Frenchman earlier this summer did not help their image. But although Nasri's departure will increase the number of Arsenal players who have moved to Eastlands to four – Emmanuel Adebayor, Kolo Touré, Gaël Clichy and Nasri – negotiations between the two clubs were said to be amicable yesterday.
Nasri's arrival may not halt City's moves for Fiorentina winger Alessio Cerci. Though a deal to bring in the 24-year-old is not imminent, the player is one whom Mancini has personally pushed to secure, and a Fiorentina valuation of £6m is not considered to represent a major gamble. Cerci is keen to leave the Serie A club following a falling-out with the manager, Sinisa Mihajlovic.
Arsenal have opened preliminary discussions with Birmingham City over the signing of £8m defender Scott Dann. Bolton are working to come closer to meeting Shaun Wright-Phillips' £70,000-a-week wage demands.
