I might actually have to get BT in two years then.
ffs!
SKY
Little bit took their eye off the ball. Although Sky will probably come back with a £2 billion offer.
A three-year niggle.
This pretty much cements BT Sport on the scene. They have done what ITV Digital, Setanta and ESPN failed to do. It is not particularly surprising, they have far more resources and a lot more was/is at stake. The TV channel element of the competition is somewhat of a sideshow element to the main battle between Sky and BT across a number of platforms.
It's weird. It's good and bad in some ways.
Good that Sky don't hold a monopoly on top level football anymore and face some competition to their dominant status meaning they may start having to come down in pricing. But bad that to get comprehensive football coverage you're going to have to shell out for two packages now.
Well it at least nails the coffin in me getting Sky Sports than. Really no point without CL football. As others have said, I'm really surprised that Sky have allowed this to happen as CL football was one of their most attractive jewels in their collection.
Read that as part of the agreement BT Sport have to broadcast some matches as free to air. Whether that'll be any relevant or interesting games with UK teams or shithouse fodder games like Victoria Plezen vs FC Copenhagen remains to be seen though.
Still, it should mean we get a lot more money for participating in the CL and create a further disparity between the top four and the rest. :coffee:
Apparently "at least one game (per tournament?!) featuring British teams" will be 'free', as will the final. Which seems to be all-pervading pointlessness to me.
ITV will have no club football at all now, incidentally. Just thought I'd drop that in there.
Surprised Sky let them have it, that's a shit load of money though, and they'll still probably keep their subscription prices pretty high even without the champions league
ITV. :rose:
Looks like I'll have to get BT Infinity when the time comes then.
Translation: We couldn't match their offer. Expect some quality French 2nd Division football to replace it.Quote:
"We bid with a clear view of what the rights are worth to us. It seems BT chose to pay far in excess of our valuation"
"There are many ways in which we can invest in our service for customers"
"We take a disciplined approach and there is always a level at which we will choose to focus on something else.
"If we thought it was worth more, we'd have paid more."
A major problem though is that that cunt Michael Owen will be commentating on CL games now. He needs to be removed from football punditery business, not given a larger portfolio.
Might have to get BT Sport then, unless they hike the prices up to reflect this
I think it's quite sad tbh.
But then I don't have Sky and I probably won't have BT when the time comes either. Even more streams it is...
I'm more pissed off that they nabbed the MotoGP. The bastards.
I think the fact there is no terrestrial viewing is a big let down really, I just remember going to friends houses watching the games with them and it was something we'd all look forward to. I distinctly remember the Real/United game, watching it with loads of people and then seeing Figo scoring that goal and everyone thinking 'How the fuck did he do that?'
I don't think anyone ,who I knew, had skysports back then. Then recently ITV went from showing 2 games on a day, to only showing 1, but atleast a game was still there for people to watch. BT Sport have said that they will show a Free-to-Air game, but as mentioned, it'll probably be a shit one no one cares about.
Next step is the World Cup and Euros.
Wouldn't put it beyond FIFA and Uefa considering they could make billions from selling the rights if it became possible one day.
As it stands, this is good news for me. I'm getting BTS without any additional financial outlay. I only get SS when they give me a good offer, now I might not even take them up on their offers as midweek football is more valuable to me than weekend football. There is tonnes of other stuff I can do on the weekends, but not many options on a wet Wednesday work night.
ITV are at least showing the highlights. It's by default better than their current highlights show.

With Dortmund's form and injury situation, you'd think Napoli would at least get a point on Tuesday.
Which would be ideal for us.

Zenit 0-1 Atleti, Adrian! What has Simeone done to them?
Kerzhakov misses again. :haha:
Fayzulin and Shirokov off, Bystrov and Arshavin on.

Rafa going all-out attack .
Yep.
Defender heads it back. It loops up but should be dealt with easily, GK should probably catch the ball. Back tracking he tries to tip it over, but flaps at an imaginary ball, and it loops into the corner. Kind of reminded me of Chamakhs headers recently where he's jumping and completing the header, before the ball has even reached him. Horrible timing..
