On the whole he's only a decent player, nothing special. I'd place him in the bracket of someone like Andy Johnson, who had a purple patch for Crystal Palace in 04-05, but apart from that has never scored consistently for any of his clubs. Flog him, and use the money to get a real quality player like Llorente and we'd have done very well out of this deal.
But they are to an extent. We're going to sell him but we're going to at least make it seem as if we're prepared to let him see out his contract. Plus we're rejecting bids and now stories are circulating about his valuation. It's all speculation but it looks like we're looking for a bidding war t least.Quote:

Van Persie is a top quality player. Injuries were the only reasons wasn't contributing good seasons before these past 18 months. The level he is at now isn't a purple patch but it is his true level. The only question mark I have is how many years (if any) he can stay at this level. People who say his game isn't based on pace and so he'll be fine don't really understand van persie's game at all. He needs to remain at his physical peak to keep banging in the goals. Nevertheless I hope we can keep him and I hope he signs a new contract.
