I don't want players in a part exchange deal. Definitely no Spanish players. Ibrahim Afellay maybe okay because he's Dutch and I think he'd adapt to life in England with ease. But we're talking him plus £35m - £40m.

If Jones performs to the level he's expected and stays at United for the rest of his career then I very much doubt it would be seen as them overpaying for him.

Rio cost them a fortune but has more than paid back his fee.

In regards to comparing Jones with Bartley, Jones is already playing at a very high level in PL, Bartley has never played in PL before. Jones is way ahead in terms of his development, way way ahead of him and right now is a miles better player than Bartley.

Of course it's not the end of the world that we didn't get Jones but let's not pretend we have youth as good as him in Central Defence.

It would be the worst decision any young centre back could make to join us.

The guys we have/had aren't that bad. With other teams they'd be solid and more confident.

Asked about why he rejected LFC and AFC,Jones said "If I wanted my career to continue with no trophies I'd just stay at Blackburn.
