It's not a unique trait of just Arsenal fans to hope and believe our current players care about the club and will spend many years here. I do think if we were able to offer Man City's wages he would stay. I view it as a trade-off...Van Persie might value money and he also probably wants a taste of some silverware. If he does have a connection with Arsenal (and I think he does having stayed here such a long time), ticking 2 out of the 3 boxes might've done it for him. Decisions like these are not clear cut and why fans need to be so definite about things, I don't know. Saying "Nasri, Clichy, Adebayor, Henry etc." managed to win silverware so they were leaving for trophies is stupid logic. By the same logic, you could claim they were leaving for more money because they were also on better contracts. We all have our views but you can't disprove one or the other.
